Abstract

A fibre-optic self-supporting cable, particularly a ground cable, including a central strand with one or more wire layers, and one or more wire layers, said central strand incorporating metal tubes containing optical fibres. The cable is characterised in that the perfectly cylindrical central strand (10, 20) includes at least two layers of wires (12, 12a, 13, 13', 22, 22a) wound in the same direction at the same pitch, and in that the fibre-optic wires (12a) are in the first layer adjacent to the centre of the strand (10).
