Description

P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 1/40
MEFA Befestiqungs- und Montagesysteme GmbH
Fastening device; method of attaching a fastening device onto at least one component
State of the Art
The invention is based on a fastening device according to the preamble of claim 1 and on a method of attaching a fastening device onto at least one component according to the preamble of claim 17.
German Patent Specification DE 39 00 669 C1 discloses a hammer-head bolt for a mounting window which has a penetrating portion shaped in the form of a point, a tooth or a cutting edge and formed on the inward-facing side of the head so as to secure the components to be connected and prevent them from slipping out of place.
To improve the anti-slip feature, German Patent Specification DE 197 18 230 B4 proposes that a toothed washer placed on the threaded shaft of the head bolt be provided and inserted between a workpiece that is to be fastened by means of a head bolt and an anchor rail, which toothed washer has teeth formed in the region of the free shanks of the anchor rail forming the slit, and associated therewith, whereby both a nonpositive engagement and a positive engagement are formed. The disadvantage here is that a twisting of the toothed washer while the bolt is being tightened cannot be excluded.
To overcome this disadvantage, German Patent Specification DE 10 2006 052 400 B4 describes a fastening device which consists of a bolt, a nut, and at least one fastening element arranged between the head of the bolt and the nut and including a hole for the thread of the bolt, or which consists of a threaded rod, two nuts, and at least one fastening element arranged
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 2/40
between said nuts and including a hole for the thread of the threaded rod, with at least one raised portion being arranged on the side of the head of the bolt facing towards the nut and/or on the side of the fastening element facing towards the component, with the fastening element having at least one nose formed on its side facing towards the component and said nose of the fastening element being apt to be brought into operative engagement with an opening of the component to be connected and/or with a plurality of openings of the components to be connected, or with the noses of the fastening element being apt to be brought into operative engagement with at least one opening of the component to be connected and/or with a plurality of openings of the components to be connected. In the previously known fastening device, the bolt, which is in particular a hammer-head bolt, is rotated by 90 once it has been passed through the components to be fastened together. Advantage is taken herein from the principle of static friction (nonpositive engagement) between the bolt and the nut. The disadvantage here is that notwithstanding the given static friction between the bolt and the nut, the head may still slip out of place while the device is being secured. To minimise this slipping out of place during the mounting process, the use of both hands is required to accomplish the installation. Such installation processes may thus be delicate, difficult, and time consuming.
Therefore, International Patent Application WO 2018/023154 Al proposes a fastening device for connecting components, said fastening device including a threaded rod which optionally has a head and a fastening nut, or a nut functioning as a head and a fastening nut, a fastening element and a spring element (biasing element), said fastening element being positioned on the threaded rod between said head and said nut, or between said nut functioning as a head and said fastening nut, and the spring element (biasing element) biasing the fastening element in the direction of the head or in the direction of the nut functioning as a head. The advantage of this previously known fastening element is that due to the spring element, which, in the case of a threaded rod having a head, is arranged between
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 3/40
the fastening element and the head, and, in the case of a threaded rod having a nut functioning as a head and a fastening nut, is arranged between the fastening element and the nut functioning as a head, the static friction between the head and the fastening nut or between the nut functioning as a head and the fastening nut, is considerably increased, whereby the screwing-in is facilitated. The disadvantage, however, is that a positioning of the fastening nut which may possibly be necessary and which may require some twisting of the fastening nut, carried out by means of pressure exerted on the head or on the nut functioning as a head while simultaneously or subsequently rotating the head or the threaded rod and the nut functioning as a head, may not be ensured in a reliable manner due to circumstances such as a jamming of the fastening nut on the component which, in turn, may cause a static friction between the fastening nut and the threaded rod to be overcome.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a fastening device that overcomes the disadvantages of the state of the art and to provide a method of attaching a fastening device onto at least one component which overcomes the disadvantages of the state of the art.
The invention and its advantages
The inventive fastening device for at least one component having the features of claim 1 and the inventive method of attaching a fastening device onto at least one component having the features of claim 17 have, in contrast, the advantage that the fastening device consists of a bolt which has a longitudinal axis and includes a head, a thread, and an end facing away from the head, of at least one nut and at least one fastening element arranged between the head of the bolt and a nut and including a hole for the thread of the bolt, or consists of a threaded rod which has a longitudinal axis and a thread and two ends, of at least two nuts and at least one fastening element arranged between said nuts and including a hole for the
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 4/40
thread of the threaded rod, said bolt or said threaded rod being connected to at least one fastening element by means of at least one positive engagement connection. The positive-engagement connection between the bolt and the fastening element or between the threaded rod and the fastening element may thus be achieved without any further auxiliaries. The fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 7 differs from the fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 4 in that on the side 14 of the head 15 of the hammer-head bolt 11 which faces towards the component 2 and which has a slot not represented here and whose thread is not explicitly represented, raised portions 9 are arranged which are in connection with the adjacent components 2 in a nonpositive and in a positive manner along the axis 16, which corresponds to the longitudinal axis 17, when the inventive fastening device 1 is in a tightened condition. The bolt, on its end 18 facing away from the head 15, has an end face 19 whereon a marking 20 is arranged by which the position of the head 15 is recognisable.
Fig. 8 shows a perspective representation of the inventive fastening device 1, according to Fig. 7, in a tightened condition. With the aid of the marking , it can be recognised that the invisible head 15 of the hammer-head bolt 11 is oriented perpendicularly with respect to the opening 7. By untightening the nut 5, the hammer-head bolt 11 may be rotated by 90 about its longitudinal axis 17, such that the inventive fastening device 1
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 19/40
may be removed in an upward direction by passing the head 15 of the hammer-head bolt 11 through the openings 7.
Fig. 9 shows a representation of the inventive fastening device 1 in a section passing through the axis 16, according to Fig. 7. Here it becomes clear that both the raised portions 9 of the fastening element 4 and the raised portions 9 of the hammer-head bolt 11 penetrate into the respectively adjacent component 2 by positive and nonpositive engagement.
Fig. 10 shows an exploded representation of an inventive fastening device 1, according to Fig. 4. The inventive fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 10 corresponds to the inventive fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 4 and serves to explain that the inventive fastening device 1 can be used to connect, along the axis 21, components 2 which have different openings 7.
Fig. 11 shows a perspective representation of the inventive fastening device 1, according to Fig. 10, in a tightened condition.

Fig. 13 shows an exploded representation of an inventive fastening device 1, according to Fig. 4. The inventive fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 13 corresponds to the inventive fastening device 1 shown in Fig. 4 and serves to explain that the inventive fastening device 1 can be used to connect, along the axis 22, components 2 which are arranged at an angle with respect to each other.

section passing through the axis 22, according to Fig. 13.
Fig. 16 shows two components 2 to be connected, which are represented side by side for illustrative purposes and which have different openings 7 for an inventive fastening device 1. The openings 7 of the components 2 are of different lengths, such that the components 2 may be steplessly displaced with respect to each other and screwed in place at any desired position. The dimensions indicated in Fig. 16 by way of example are in mm.
Fig. 17 shows a side view of a bolt 23 whose thread is not explicitly represented and which is a hammer-head bolt 11 of an inventive fastening device 1. The bolt 23 has a slot 24 which extends parallel with the longitudinal axis 17. The slot 24 is part of a slot-and-key connection, with at least one key being arranged on a fastening element 4, not represented here. Due to the slot-and-key connection, the bolt 23 and the fastening element 4 are connected by positive engagement, such that, owing to the forced guidance, a rotation of the bolt 23 causes a rotation of the fastening element 4 which is otherwise slidably arranged on the longitudinal axis 17 of the bolt 23. In the case of a straight slot 24, as represented in Fig. 17, only the position between the fastening element 4 and the bolt 23 is fixed. This has the effect that a rotation of the bolt 23 enables the fastening element 4 to rotate in conjunction therewith, whereby the nose 10 of a fastening element 4 may, for example, be positioned within an opening 7 of a component 2, and that a rotation of the fastening element 4 enables the bolt 23 to rotate in conjunction therewith, whereby the head 15 of the bolt 23 may, for example, be positioned in such a manner as to hold the component 2 in place from behind, once it has been passed through an opening 7 of a component 2.

Fig. 21 shows a top view of the end face 15 of a bolt 23, according to Fig. 17.
Fig. 22 shows a perspective representation of a bolt 23, according to Fig. 17.
Fig. 23 shows a perspective representation of a bolt 23 on which a fastening element 4 is arranged. The bolt 23, which is realised in the form of a hammer-head bolt 11, has a thread 25 in which a slot 24 is arranged. For better illustration of the zigzag-shaped course of the slot 24 by which the connecting link is formed, the fastening element 4, which has a nose 10 and has a marking 26 by which e.g. the position of the nose 10 is discernible, is represented transparently. The slot 24 has slot sections 28, 29, and 30, with the slot sections 28 and 29 being arranged parallel with the longitudinal axis 17 of the bolt 23 and the slot section 30 being arranged at an angle with respect to said longitudinal axis 17 of the bolt 23.
Fig. 24 shows a top view of the end face 19 of a bolt 23 on which a fastening element 4 is arranged, according to Fig. 23. The fastening element 4 has a key 27 which is shaped in a hemispherical form. Due to the slot 24 arranged on the bolt and the key 27 arranged on the fastening element 4, a slot-and-key connection is formed by means of which the bolt 23 and the fastening element 4 are connected with each other by positive engagement. A relative movement of the fastening element 4 with respect to the bolt 23 causes the key 27 of the fastening element 4 to follow the course of the slot 24. Whereas in the case of a key 27 guided within the slot sections 28 or 29, this only leads to a displacement of the fastening element 4 along the longitudinal axis 17, in the case of a key 27 guided within the slot section 30, this will lead to a rotation of the fastening element
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 22/40
4, in addition to said displacement of the fastening element 4. Preferably, this causes a rotation of the fastening element 4 by 90.
Fig. 25 shows a perspective view of the fastening element 4, according to Fig. 23,
Fig. 26 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 including a fastening element 4 whose key is in a position 31 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left-hand side.
Fig. 27 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 including a fastening element 4 whose key 27 is in a position 32 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left-hand side. A comparison with Fig. 26 reveals that the fastening element 4 is lifted and rotated by 90° relative to the bolt 23 while travelling on the slot section during the positional change that moves the key 27 from position 31 to position 32.
Fig. 28 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 including a fastening element 4 whose key 27 is in a position 33 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left-hand side. A comparison with Fig. 27 reveals that the fastening element 4 is displaceable on the longitudinal axis 17 while travelling on the slot section 29 during the positional change that moves the key 27 from position 32 to position 33. Whether the position 33 will actually be achieved depends on the thickness of the component 2, which is not represented here and which is arranged between the head 15 and the fastening element 4, or on the thickness of the components 2, which are not represented here and which are arranged between the head 15 and the fastening element 4. The inventive fastening device 1 is secured on the component 2 or on the components 2 by tightening the nut. When in the secured condition, the nose 10 is located within at least one opening 7 of one or several
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 23/40
components 2 and the head 15 holds the adjacent component 2 from behind.
Fig. 29 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 which has a spring element 34 realised in the form of a compression spring and includes a fastening element 4 whose key 27 is in a position 31 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left hand side. Preferably, the fastening element 4 (locking disc), the key 27 and the nut 5 are preassembled on the bolt 23 in such a manner that the key 27 of the fastening element 4 is in position 31, i. e. in the end position of the slot section 28.
Fig. 30 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 which has a spring element 34 realised in the form of a compression spring and includes a fastening element 4 whose key 27 is in a position 32 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left hand side. Using a spring element 34 has the advantage of enhancing static friction (nonpositive engagement) between the head 15 and the nut 5. A comparison with Fig. 29 reveals that the fastening element 4 is lifted and rotated by 900 relative to the bolt 23 while travelling on the slot section 30 during the positional change that moves the key 27 from position 31 to position 32. The positional change of the key 27 from position 31 to position 32 is provoked by exerting pressure onto the end face 19 of the bolt 23 and/or by exerting pressure on the nut 5. Since the fastening element 4, with its nose 10 (holding nose) or with its noses 10, is already secured within the opening 7 of at least one component 2, not represented here, the hammer-head bolt 11 is rotatable. This means that the head 15 of the bolt 23 of the inventive fastening device 1, which is preferably preassembled, is passed through an opening 7 of a component 2, or through a plurality of openings 7 of several components 2, until the fastening element 4, in particular after at least one nose 10 of the fastening element 4 has been introduced into the opening 7 of the adjacent component 2, abuts against said adjacent component 2, which causes the spring element 34 to become
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 24/40
compressed. This initialises the positional change of the key 27 from position 31 to position 32, such that the head 15 of a bolt 23, once it has been fully inserted through the opening 7 of a component 2, or through the openings 7 of several components 2, is being rotated so as to hold the component(s) 2 from behind.
Fig. 31 on the right-hand side shows a perspective view of an inventive fastening device 1 which has a spring element 34 realised in the form of a compression spring and includes a fastening element 4 whose key 27 is in a position 33 within the course of the slot 24 which is shown on the left hand side. The position 33 is reached by releasing pressure, such that the slot 24, after being rotated by 90, runs towards the bolt head. This also permits to tighten the bolt. It is advantageous that the slot-and key connection not only creates a positive engagement between the fastening element 4 and the bolt 23 but can also be used for initialising a rotational movement or spatial curve. This is theoretically also possible without any spring-biasing and, obviously, without using a threaded rod 3.
When in the secured condition, the nose 10 is located within at least one opening 7 of one or several components 2 and the head 15 holds the adjacent component 2 from behind. Releasing the inventive fastening device 1 is done in a reverse order, such that once the nut 5 has been removed, pressure can be exerted on the end face 19 of the bolt 23 and/or pressure can be exerted on the nut 5, which causes the key 27 to be guided within the slot section 29 in the direction of position 32, whereupon, as the position 32 is reached, pressure reduction permits it to reach position 31, while the head 15 of the bolt 23 is rotated by 90°, such that the
P DE 8186 WO August 2021 MO/as, ra 25/40
head 15 may be slid through the opening 7 of a component 2 or through the opening 7 of several components 2, thus making it possible to remove the inventive fastening device 1.

Fig. 51 shows a side view of a further example embodiment of a bolt 35 whose thread is not explicitly represented, and which is a hammer-head bolt 36, of an inventive fastening device 1. Unlike the bolt 23, so far represented, the bolt 35 has in particular an extended collar 12. Due to the extended collar 12 and to a fastening element 37 as shown in Fig. 55, the bolt 35 and the fastening element 37 are connected by positive engagement, such that, owing to the forced guidance, a rotation of the bolt causes a rotation of the fastening element 37 which is otherwise slidably arranged on the longitudinal axis 17 of the bolt 35. The collar 12, which cooperates with the fastening element 37, thus fixes the relative position between the fastening element 37 and the bolt 35. This has the effect that a rotation of the bolt 35 enables the fastening element 37 to rotate in conjunction therewith, whereby the nose 10 of the fastening element 37

may, for example, be positioned within an opening 7 of a component 2, and that a rotation of the fastening element 37 enables the bolt 35 to rotate in conjunction therewith, whereby the head 15 of the bolt 35 may, for example, be positioned in such a manner as to hold the component 2 in place from behind, once it has been passed through an opening 7 of a component 2.
