Description

BODY OIL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a body oil. It relates particularly but not exclusively to a multi

purpose body oil with a non-greasy texture and an appealing scent, suitable for use during a massage, in the bath, on the stomach during pregnancy, and as a treatment for cradle cap.

BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION

Numerous types and formulations of body oils are currently available. The purpose of a

body oil is usually to provide soft, fragrant and moisturised skin.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

According to the present invention there is provided a body oil formulation including the following emollient ingredients:

• Fractionated coconut oil comprising 10% to 30% by weight of the formulation;

• Sunflower oil, comprising 60% to 90% by weight of the formulation; and

• Jojoba Oil, comprising 0.05% to 5% by weight of the formulation.

The body oil formulation may include any suitable additives, fragrances, colourants,

antioxidants and pH adjusters. One suitable additional fragrance ingredient is:

• SEOC Relax Me Blend, comprising 0.1% to 1% by weight of the formulation.

One suitable additional antioxidant ingredient is:

• Vitamin E Natural, comprising 0.05% to 1% by weight of the formulation.

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to a particular

embodiment. It is to be understood that the specific details of the embodiment do not

supersede the generality of the foregoing description.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EXAMPLE EMBODIMENT

The example embodiment of a body oil formulation according to the present invention

includes the following ingredients:

Phase A ingredients:

• Fractionated coconut oil comprising 10% to 30% by weight of the formulation;

• Sunflower oil, comprising 60% to 90% by weight of the formulation; and

• Jojoba Oil, comprising 0.05% to 5% by weight of the formulation.

Phase B ingredients:

• SEOC Relax Me Blend, comprising 0.1% to 1% by weight of the formulation.

• Vitamin E Natural, comprising 0.05% to 1% by weight of the formulation.

The formulation is created by combining the Phase A and Phase B ingredients and mixing until the mixture is uniform and clear.

This results in a viscous liquid, with a density of approximately 1.01 to 1.05.

The particular ingredients and the reasons for their selection will now be described in

further detail.

Fractionated Coconut Oil of Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (CAS number 73398-61-5): This is a

light colourless carrier oil which will not stain clothing, is odourless and has a long shelf life and stability.

Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (CAS number 8001-21-6): This is used in a variety of cosmetics and personal care products as an emollient. It also provides benefits such as

decreasing inflammation, replenishing the skin's barrier, and improving hair loss conditions. The oil also contains significant quantities of vitamin E, sterols, and squalene which are all

essential to good health. This oil absorbs into the skin easily and if ingested by a baby, causes no harmful effects. It is ideal for cradle cap and suggested to be beneficial and

important in preterm baby health as it enhances the skin barrier function.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (CAS number 90045-98-0): This is a carrier oil that acts as a moisturizer and emollient, prevents transdermal water loss and retains moisture. It has good lubricant properties without leaving a greasy film on the skin as it penetrates into the skin.

SEOC Relax Me Blend: This is composed of approximately 35% Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin

Orange Peel) Oil (CAS number 8008-31-9), 25% Cedrus Atlantica Bark (Cedarwood) Oil (CAS number 8000-27-9), 20% Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil (CAS number 8000-28-0),

% Lavandula Hybrida Oil (CAS number 8022-15-9), 5% Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil (CAS number 8007-75-8) and 5% Anthemis Nobilis Flower (Roman

chamomile) Oil (CAS number 84649-86-5). Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange Peel) Oil has significant antioxidant properties. It is mild and calming, anti-inflammatory, and has

antimicrobial and refreshing properties. Cedrus Atlantica Bark (Cedarwood) Oil is anti inflammatory, antiseptic, and beneficial for muscular aches. It is a scalp tonic suitable for

oily skin and hair treatment such as dandruff and cradle cap. Lavandula Angustifolia

(Lavender) Oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and is effective in treating acne, dermatitis and oily skin. It promotes rapid healing and helps reduce scarring.

Lavandula Hybrida Oil is used as a fragrance ingredient in cosmetics. Its sensitiser potential for skin is similar to that of lavender oil and camphor. Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil has antibacterial, deodorising, refreshing, soothing, and uplifting

properties which make it suitable for body skincare preparations. Anthemis Nobilis Flower (Roman chamomile) Oil is used to help calm inflamed skin and ease skin conditions like

eczema or rashes.

Vitamin E Natural: This is composed of approximately 50% Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (CAS number 8001-21-6) and 50% Tocopherol (Vitamin E). The properties of Helianthus Annuus

Seed Oil are discussed above. Tocopherol offers significant antioxidant properties, moisturizing and healing which strengthens skin barrier function. It is naturally anti

inflammatory, so it can be soothing and help calm the skin.

A body oil formulation of the type provided by the present invention is designed to offer a multi-purpose functional body oil product suitable to be used by the consumer in various

different ways. Sunflower and coconut carrier oils have been chosen for their light colour

and low odour and high stability attributes whilst Jojoba oil is antibacterial and highly absorbent, replenishing the skin's natural barrier, and its semblance to the body's natural oil makes it ideal for people who don't like a greasy, oily texture. Including antioxidant Vitamin E and skin calming essential oils, it gets absorbed easily, is non-greasy and prevents dryness.

This light-weight oil includes botanicals of orange, cedarwood and lavender that adds to its appealing scent.

1. A body oil formulation including the following emollient ingredients:

• Fractionated coconut oil comprising 10% to 30% by weight of the formulation;

• Sunflower oil, comprising 60% to 90% by weight of the formulation; and

• Jojoba Oil, comprising 0.05% to 5% by weight of the formulation.

2. A body oil formulation according to claim 1further including the following fragrance

ingredient:

• SEOC Relax Me Blend, comprising 0.1% to 1% by weight of the formulation.

3. A body oil formulation according to claim 1 or claim 2 further including the following additional ingredient:

• Vitamin E Natural, comprising 0.05% to 1% by weight of the formulation.
