Abstract
A topical skincare composition comprising the Terminalia Ferdinandiana extract, Saccharide
Isomerate and Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to the cosmetics industry and, more particularly to a skin serum composition for improving the quality of skin.
[0002] Serums are highly concentrated cosmetic products. Serums tend to give a quicker cosmetic effect than creams. This provides more psychological satisfaction as the results can be seen more quickly. However, it is possible to overdose on certain ingredients in serums. Many currently available serums can have an effect on the skin in the short term, but irritate the skin in the long term. For example, some serums can provide deep penetration moisturisation, but can leave the user with a burning sensation and ultimately lead to skin breakouts, such as pimples or inflammatory skin reactions. Finding the optimum concentration and combination of ingredients is difficult.
[0003] In certain combinations, two ingredients can have a far higher effect than could be expected from their individual activities, thus displaying synergism. One example of such a combination is AmoxicillinTM and ClavulanateTM. Alone, ClavulanateTM has little anti-bacterial activity, but in combination with AmoxicillinT M , it shows highly synergistic activity (refer to Goodman and Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, A. G. Gilman et al., eds., Pergamon Press, Inc., 1990, p. 1093). The advantage of such synergism is that the effectiveness of the serum is greatly increased, without a concomitant increase in the dosage level of any one ingredient or the necessary rate of administration. It allows lower quantities of each substance to be administered in combination yet still achieve the desired therapeutic effect. This is particularly important in the treatment of delicate or sensitive tissues, such as the skin, where the ability to reduce the concentration of any one individual ingredient is important.
[0004] The object of the present invention is to provide a skin care serum with an optimum balance and concentration of active ingredients to achieve an almost immediate improvement in skin luminosity and elasticity without irritating the skin.
[0005] According to the present invention, there is provided a topical skincare composition comprising:
(a) Terminalia Ferdinandiana extract; (b) Saccharide Isomerate; and (c) a carrier.
[0006] Preferably, the carrier is Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice, because it is a natural ingredient that is readily absorbed by the skin. The Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice may be mixed with water in a ratio of 1:100. Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice is able to carry the active ingredients of Terminalia Ferdinandiana and Saccharide Isomerate into the skin.
[0007] Terminalia Ferdinandiana is reputed to be the world's most concentrated whole-food source of vitamin C. It is rich in antioxidants to provide immune support and it protects the skin from free radical damage caused by exposure to ultra-violet radiation.
[0008] Saccharide Isomerate is an excellent moisturising agent, which provides effects for up to 72 hours and can improve skin condition within two weeks. Preferably, the percentage of Saccharide Isomerate is 10%, which the inventor has found through experiment to be the optimum level of this ingredient to maintain skin luminosity and elasticity for a satisfying period of time.
[0009] Additional ingredients of secondary importance in the skincare composition of the present invention may include:
(a) Panthenol, which is the pro-vitamin of D-Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5) and provides deep penetrating moisture to the skin, stimulating epithelisation to provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects; (b) A combination of water, Disodium phosphate, Acetyl hexapeptide-8, Sodium phosphate, Capryloyl glycol; (c) A combination of water, Propanediol, Tephrosia purpurea extract which has soothing properties to main skin elasticity and brightness; and (d) A vanilla and almond like parfum that also preserves cosmetic compositions, provides good product stability and resists microbial contamination.
[0010] Additional ingredients of tertiary importance in the skincare composition of the present invention may include:
(a) Xanthan gum, which is a binder, emulsion stabilizer, surfactant-emulsifying agent, and a viscosity increasing agent. (b) Propanediol, a skin penetration enhancer commonly sold under the trade mark.
(c) Brachychiton acerifolius extract, which is an advanced natural anti-aging, skin brightening, hydration and hair treatment and helps to intensify the effects of Vitamin C. (d) Hibiscus Sabdariffa extract, which has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is useful for reducing wrinkles and treating acne. It has been used in skin whitening applications. It can repair and reverse skin damage. (e) Tasmannia Lanceolata leaf extract, which has the highest oxygen radical absorbance capacity (antioxidant) rating currently achieved and helps to prevent the strengthens capillaries. (e) Tasmannia Lanceolata berry extract delivers powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-acne and skin conditioning properties. It also supports Vitamin C and collagen production. (f) Calitris Glaucophylla leaf extract, which has anti-inflammatory agents, anti-aging effects and skin toning properties. (g) Davidsonia Jerseyana extract, which has a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant content that improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promotes skin elasticity through enhanced collagen and elastin production. (h) Arnica Montana flower extract, which contains compounds that anti-aging, whitening, acne, repair and reverse skin damage. (i) Kunzea Pomifera extract, which has high levels of antioxidants. (j)Anigozanthos Flavidus flower extract, which is used for skin repair, hydration, anti ageing and has cooling effect on the skin. (k) Narcissus Tazetta extract which has soothing properties to main skin elasticity and brightness. (1) Schisandra Chinensis fruit extract is a fruit extract that has been clinically proven improve skin resilience and firmness. (m)Magnolia Grandiflora oil which is used as a fragrance and also has soothing effects for the skin.
[0011] The ingredients of the present invention can be mixed at room temperature. The first step in the mixing process is to reconstitute the Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice powder with distilled water. Preferably, the organic Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice powder is mixed in the ratio of 1:100 with water. The Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice and water mixture acts as a carrier for the other ingredients listed below. The ingredients should be added in the following phases:
