Abstract

The present invention provides a Compact Sterilisation Unit, an automated card acceptor system that allows Hotel guest room keycards to be inserted. Once the card is inserted a sensor switch operates a motor driven carriage to transfer the said card into the body of the acceptor (the Case) where it is sterilised by way of germicidal grade Ultraviolet (UV) light source. Once completed, the carriage and card within is automatically transported back to the top for collection.

DESCRIPTION
CSU HK Compact Sterilisation Unit V2 Is an automated card acceptor system that allows Hotel guest room keycards to be inserted. Once the card is inserted a sensor switch operates a motor driven carriage to transfer the said card into the body of the acceptor (the Case) where it is sterilised by way of germicidal grade Ultraviolet (UV) light source, preferably UV C LED lights, but is not restricted to the type of Ultraviolet lights nor the quantity used. The UVC light source is directed and reflected throughout the internal acceptor case structure, The card transport carriage is constructed with optical quartz glass on both sides of the carriage to allow the UVC light source to encompass all card surfaces to be sterilised. (the time of sterilisation can vary depending on the quantity and type of the Ultraviolet light source, which can be adjusted to suit the configuration). The duration of sterilisation will be determined by confirmation of the data available but is suggested that a sterilisation time of 5 seconds will be required based on current data. Once the card has been transported into the case body, indicator lights are illuminated on both sides of the case to indicate that sterilisation is in progress. Once the sterilisation process is complete, the indicator lights are extinguished and the UVC lights turn off , the carriage and card within is then automatically transported back to the top for collection. The CSU HK Compact Steriliser Unit allows both Hotel Guest and employee to transfer Hotel room keycards upon check in and check out without contact, to lower the risk and eliminate transfer of bacteria, viruses and fungi between humans. The intensity of the Ultraviolet light source is in close proximity to the card in the carriage thus allowing maximum efficiency for the sterilisation to occur. The UVC lamps are concealed within the case body structure and are not visible to ensure that no Ultraviolet light is transmitted to anyone using the device. The CSU HK Compact Sterilisation Unit can be placed on reception desk or counter top or bench wherever sterilisation of Hotel room guest keys needs to be performed with no contact between the Guest and employee. The Compact Sterilisation Unit can be battery operated (rechargeable) or mains power operation.
With the current COVID 19 pandemic, which has thrust the world into a state of continual personal sanitising and social distancing, the CSU (Compact Sterilisation Unit) will no doubt be a tremendous help in containing the spread of transmitted diseases through the transfer of Hotel guest room keycards, by reducing and eliminating bacteria and viruses found on these surfaces.

Editorial Note 2020101409 There is only one page of the claim CSU HK Compact Sterilisation Unit Inventors. Richard Rossborough Flynn Patrick Rossborough 21/04/2020 CLAIMS
1. A compact sterilisation system for the safe transfer of Hotel Guest Keycards that require sterilisation to lower the risk and eliminate the transfer of bacteria, viruses and fungi between humans without contact.
2. A Sterilisation unit consisting of an outer casing and body, inner card acceptor and transport carriage and an automatic UVC Ultraviolet sterilisation system.
3. A compact desktop UVC sterilisation system that allows a Hotel guest to insert a room keycard upon check out for sterilisation and for the employee to insert a guest keycard for sterilisation upon check in, these two processes allow for a contactless operation.
4. The Card acceptor carriage is motor driven and constructed with a transparent enclosure (Optical Quartz glass) to allow the Ultraviolet light to encompass all card surfaces to be sterilised.
5. When the card is inserted into the top of the CSU the card is retracted into the case body and the Ultraviolet light source is automatically switched on by way of a sensor switch when the carriage and card within is in the closed position. The UVC lights automatically switch off when sterilisation tme has expired and the carriage and card within are automatically transported back to the top position for collection.
6. Indicator lights are located on both sides of the case and illuminate whilst sterilisation is in progress and extinguished once the sterilisation process is complete.
7. The CSU HK Compact sterilisation unit can be battery operated (rechargeable) or mains power operation.
8. The Compact Sterilisation Unit case and body can be made of any type of material but ABS plastic or similar would be the preferred material.
9. The UVC lamps are concealed within the case body structure and are not visible to ensure that no Ultraviolet light is transmitted to anyone using the device.
