Title of the Invention Equine Massage Rake
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a device for massaging animals, particularly horses.
Background of the Invention
Animals including horses are exercised on a regular basis to ensure their fitness and
health. However, horses may develop muscle stiffness, muscle strains, or other pain.
.0 If a horse suffers from a muscular injury, the horse's health and performance may be
negatively affected, and the horse's overall demeanor may change. Such muscular
injuries require prompt treatment to prevent the horse from exacerbating the injury,
and to allow the horse to stay in good health.
The owner may massage a horse's muscles in order to help relieve tension to
.5 prevent the horse from injuring the muscle. However, it may be difficult for the horse
owner to apply sufficient pressure using his or her hands alone. Further, it may be
difficult for the user to massage or soothe specific muscles on the horse's body.
Thus, a device is required to help a user apply pressure and massage a horse in
various ways.
Devices have been disclosed in the prior art that relate to massage devices. These
devices generally relate to mechanical, electric, hand-held or manually operated
massaging tools for humans or animals.
However, these devices include elaborate attachments and designs which require
specialized construction, or training to ensure proper use.
The present invention provides a massage device for use with animals or humans, and that is particularly suited for use with horses. The massage device is easy to use, manipulate, comfortable for animals during use and simply designed.
Summary of the Invention The present invention provides a massage device or animals comprising an
elongated handle that is substantially linear in configuration;
the handle includes a first end and a second end, only the first end includes a
massaging member attached thereon.
Preferably, the first end comprises various configurations, particularly a plurality of
tines or prongs ends protruding from the end of the handle, forming a forked shaped
.0 device.
Preferably, tines of the fork are rounded and comprise at least four tines or prongs.
Preferably, the device comprises the following dimensions and properties:
• 38 centimetres total length
• 30 centimetres handle
• 9.5 centimetres width
• 5 centimetres tines
• 300-gram total weight
• High grade stainless steel.
In another aspect, the present invention provides a method for massaging an animal
comprising using the device wherein the first end of the device is applied gently, or
the handle is rolled over the animal for smooth and relaxed application.
Brief Description of the drawings Figure 1 shows the top and side views of the device as an embodiment of the present invention
Detailed Description of the invention The present invention provides a device for massaging animals, including horses.
More specifically, the present invention provides a massage device for animals or
humans, and that is particularly adapted for use with horses, comprising an
.o elongated handle at one end. The massage members comprise forked members, or
other similar massaging structures.
The massage device comprises an elongated handle that is substantially linear in
configuration. The elongated handle includes a first end and a second end. Only one
end includes a massaging member attached thereon. The first end comprises
.5 various configurations, particularly a plurality of tines or prongs protruding from the
end of the handle, forming a forked shaped device.
The massage member includes a forked member. The handle helps a user to hold
the massage tool in a desired orientation to help the user manipulate the massage
device. The user can hold the massage device and move the massage member over
a human or animal's body to help relieve muscle pains and tension.
It is desirable to use the device according to the present invention on animals such
as horses and dogs having substantially thick and not fleshy outer skin or body.
The device according to the present invention is specifically designed to provide
leverage and weighted head at one end only. The device may be used by amateurs and professionals alike. The user may knead on muscles of an injured horse, for example, by rolling the handle member of the device over the horse. The user may also gently rub the injured area of the horse by utilizing the forked end, for example, for stimulation and circulation.
The device lessens effort, energy and recovery time upon treatment.
Usage: The Equine Massage Modified Rake can be used on all large animals to aid
in recovery and enhanced performances. This modified rake can also isolate
problematic areas to help relieve soreness and tightness. The Equine Massage
Modified Rake can be used on wet and dry horses as well as on the go.
.o Figure 1. The Equine Massage Modified Rake has a 30 centimetres long handle (1)
allowing for increased leverage for an enjoyable experience for the user. The handle
also allows for an even pressure application with minimum force. As the rake has
multiple functions, the rake can also be turned upside down (Tines facing upwards)
to target deeper and larger muscles.
.5 The tines (2) are rounded to allow for smooth application without any jabbing or
scratching. The head of the rake is weighted allowing for even and direct pressure to
be applied.
The Equine Massage Rack is made from high grade stainless steel to ensure the
tool is strong and ensures a long life, preferably having following dimensions and
properties:
• 38 centimetres total length
• 30 centimetres handle
* 9.5 centimetres width
• 5 centimetres tines
• 300-gram total weight
The foregoing description of the embodiments has been provided for purposes of illustration and not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure. Individual components of a particular embodiment are generally not limited to that particular embodiment but are interchangeable. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the present disclosure, .0 and all such modifications are considered to be within the scope of the present disclosure.
