Gaming machines are known that offer multiple games. A challenge in gaining machines that offer multiple games is to provide a gaming machine interface that provides an intuitive mechanism by which the player can select one of the multiple games .
There is a need for alternative gaming machine interfaces for multi game gaming machines.
Summary of the Invention
In a first aspect, the invention provides a gaming machine interface for a multi-game gaming machine, the interface comprising:
a touch sensitive display; and a controller for controlling the touch sensitive display to display game images corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of games playable with a multi-game gaming machine, wherein the controller is configured to control the display to display one of the plurality of game images at a focus position and at least part of the respective game images of the other games of the plurality games at respective ones of a plurality of secondary positions, and wherein the controller is configured to respond to: a first touch input via the touch sensitive display by cycling the game images through the focus position in a

In an embodiment, the secondary positions are arranged such that the game images at each secondary position are partially overlapped by at least one of the game image at the focus position and a game image at another secondary position.
In an embodiment, enough of each game image at a secondary position is visible to allow a user to identify each game.

Detailed Description
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a gaming machine having a gaming machine interface that improves operation of the gaming machine.
A gaming machine 10 is illustrated in Figure 1. The gaming machine 10 includes a console 12 having a touch-sensitive display 14 on which representations of a games that can be

A mid-trim 20 of the gaming machine 10 houses a bank of buttons 22 for enabling a player to interact with the gaming machine to make selections for game play. The mid-trim 20 also houses a credit input mechanism which in this example includes card/ticket reader 24A for reading a player loyalty cards/tickets and a bill collector 24B. Other credit input mechanisms may also be employed, for example, the card reader may read a debit card or credit card. A ticket printer 26 is also be located in the cabinet between the mid-trim 20 and the display 14. Bezel 15 incorporates lights that can be controlled by the game controller.
The display 14 shown in Figure 2 is in the form of a liquid crystal display. The display incorporates a touch sensor so that the player can make selections in relation to the game by touching the display. The display 14 may any other suitable video display unit, such as an OLED display.
Figure 2 shows a block diagram of operative components of a typical gaming machine which may be the same as or different to the gaming machine of Figure 1.
The gaming machine 100 includes a game controller 101 having a processor 102 mounted on a circuit board. Instructions and data to control operation of the processor 102 are stored in a memory 103, which is in data communication with the processor 102. Typically, the gaming machine 100 will include both volatile and nonvolatile memory and more than one of each type of memory, with such memories being collectively represented by the memory 103.
Herein the term processor is used to refer generically to any device that can process game play instructions in accordance with game play rules and may include: a microprocessor, microcontroller, programmable logic device

That is a processor may be provided by any suitable logic circuitry for receiving inputs, processing them in accordance with instructions stored in memory and generating outputs (for example on the display). Such processors are sometimes also referred to as central processing units (CPUs). Most processors are general purpose units, however, it is also know to provide a specific purpose processor using an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) or a field programmable gate array (FPGA).
The gaming machine has hardware meters 104 for purposes including ensuring regulatory compliance and monitoring player credit, an input/output (I/O) interface 105 for communicating with peripheral devices of the gaming machine 100. The input/output interface 105 and/or the peripheral devices may be intelligent devices with their own memory for storing associated instructions and data for use with the input/output interface or the peripheral devices. A random number generator module 113 generates random numbers for use by the processor 102. Persons skilled in the art will appreciate that the reference to random numbers includes pseudo-random numbers.
In the example shown in Figure 2, a player interface 120 includes peripheral devices that communicate with the game controller 101 including the display 106, a touch screen and buttons 107 (which provide a game play mechanism), a card and ticket reader 108, a printer 109, and a bill acceptor 110. Additional hardware may be included as part of the gaming machine 100, or hardware may be omitted as required for the specific implementation. For example, while buttons or touch screens are typically used in gaming machines to allow a player to place a wager and initiate a play of a game any input device that enables the player to input game play instructions may be used. Persons skilled in the art will also appreciate that a touch screen can be used to emulate other input devices,

2018200351 17 Sep 2019 for example, a touch screen can display virtual buttons which a player can press by touching the screen where they are displayed.
In addition, the gaming machine 100 may include a communications interface, for example a network card 112. The network card may, for example, send status information, accounting information or other information to a bonus controller, central controller, server or io database and receive data or commands from the bonus controller, central controller, server or database. In embodiments employing a player marketing module, communications over a network may be via player marketing module - i.e. the player marketing module may be in data communication with one or more of the above devices and communicate with it on behalf of the gaming machine.
Figure 3 shows a block diagram of the main components of an exemplary memory 103. The memory 103 includes RAM
103A, EPROM 103B and a mass storage device 103C. The RAM
103A typically temporarily holds program files for execution by the processor 102 and related data. The EPROM 103B may be a boot ROM device and/or may contain some system or game related code. The mass storage device
103C is typically used to store game programs, the integrity of which may be verified and/or authenticated by the processor 102 using protected code from the EPROM 103B or elsewhere.
Referring to figure 4 there is shown an example of a display 400 on display 14 which forms part of the player interface. It will be apparent from figure 4, that the interface of the gaming machine is themed such that it resembles a juke box. The interface includes a first gaming selection area 405.
The controller 101 controls display 14 to display gaming images 411 to 416 in first game selection area 405 that correspond to respective ones of a plurality of games (in

2018200351 17 Sep 2019 this example, six games). The controller controls the display to display the first game Cash Chameleon in a focus position and part of the game images of the other five games Wicked Winnings 412, Panda Plays 413,
Super Bucks 414, Enchanted Forest 415 and Money
Mouse 416. Thus, game images 412 to 416 are displayed at secondary positions. It will be apparent that this visual arrangement enables the user to readily perceive that there are six games playable on the gaming machine. The game images are shown on an animated circular table 408 to give a visual indication that the game images can be cycled through the focus position 407 and also hints that the gestures that will change the game image at the focus position will be one that relates to imparting movement to the circular table.
The controller 101 is configured to respond in a specific manner to a plurality of different touch inputs in respect of the first game selection area 405. Specifically, the controller 101 is configured to respond to a first touch input via the touch sensitive display 14 by cycling the game images 411, 416 through the focus position 407 in a first direction as indicated by arrow A. In an embodiment, the first touch input comprises a swipe gesture performed in the direction of arrow A. Referring to the example shown in figure 405, in response to a swipe direction in the direction of arrow A, the controller 101 controls the display 14 to first move the game Wicked Winnings 412 into the focus position 407, then the game image of Panda Plays 413, then the game image of Super Bucks 414, then the game image of Enchanted Forest, and then the game image of Money Mouse 416 before reverting to the game image of Cash Chameleon 411. The number of game images that move through the focus position 407 in response to a swipe gesture can be dependent on the length and/or velocity of the swipe gesture. The use of swipe gestures provides an intuitive way to change the game image at the focus position 407.

The controller 101 is configured to respond to a second touch input via the touch sensitive display 14, by cycling the game images through the focus position 407 in a second direction. In this example when the user swipes in the direction of arrow B the game images are cycled through the focus position in the order of Money Mouse, Enchanted Forest, Super Bucks, Panda Plays and Wicked Winnings before reverting again to Cash Chameleon.
In the embodiment, the controller 101 responds to a third touch input, for example such as a tap gesture in respect of the game image in the focus position 407 and presents to the player a further selection screen in which the player can select the denomination of the selected game.
That is tapping on the game image in the focus position leads to display of a screen from which the player can select from one or more denominations that are available for play of the game.
It will also be apparent that in the first game selection area 405, at least a portion of all of the images is viewable. The game image in the focus position is positioned so that it overlaps the game images in the first and second secondary positions that are left and right of the game image and those images overlap the game images behind them. It will be further apparent that a player can cycle through the game images continuously and in either the first or the second directions and that all the game images at secondary positions are arranged such that they are partially overlapped by at least one of the game image at the focus position and a game image at another secondary position. Advantageously, in the arrangement shown in figure 4, enough of each game image is visible for a player to identify each game such that the player can appropriately input a gesture to cycle the game image of a desired game to the focus position in an efficient manner; that is the arrangement of the game images enables the player to determine the optimum direction for scrolling to reach a desired game image.

For example, the player can readily recognise that cycling in direction A will bring Wicked Winnings into the focus position more rapidly than cycling in direction B.
As shown in figure 4, the gaming machine interface also includes a secondary display area 409 in which individual game images 430, 440, 450, 460, 470, 480 are displayed, one for each of the games. In an example, when a game image in the first game selection area 405 is moved into the focus position the corresponding image in the secondary display area 409 is highlighted. For example, the box around the relevant game image could be highlighted. Further, in a synchronised manner, as another game image in the first game selection area 405 is moved into the focus position, another corresponding image in the secondary display area 409 is similarly highlighted. These game images 430 to 460 display the set of one or more denominations that are available for respective ones of the games. The respective sets of denominations may be the same, different or partially different in some or all of the game images 430 to 460.
For example:
• Denominations of 1 cent 431, 2 cents 432 and 5 cents 433 are available for the game Cash Chameleon.
• Denominations of 1 cent 441, 2 cents 442 and 5 cents 443 are available for the game Money Mouse, • Denominations of 20 cents 451, 50 cents 452 and 1 dollar 453 are available for the game Super Bucks.
• Denominations of 1 cent 461 and 2 cents 462 are available for the game Enchanted Forest.
• Denominations of 1 cent 471 and 2 cents 472 are available for the game Wicked Winnings.
• Denominations of 20 cents 481, 50 cents 482 and 1 dollar 483 are available for the game Panda Plays.
In an embodiment, the player can also select the game to play directly from the secondary display area 409. The images displayed in the secondary display area 409 may be the same as images that are displayed after the player

Figure 4 also shows a jackpot display area which displays 5 the jackpots available for the game. It will be apparent that this jackpot display area 490 does not change when a player selects the game.
Referring to Figure 5, once a player selects a game an animation is performed which shows the removal of a disc from the CD case corresponding to the game images shown in figure 4 and its insertion into a slot 512. In this example, a CD corresponding to the game Wicked Winnings 511 is shown inserted into slot 512.
Further, the secondary selection area is replaced with an image of the reels corresponding to play of the game 520 hereafter the player can play the selected game. When the player selects a game, the colours of the display are changed, for example, by changing the colour of tubes 402 so that their colour corresponds to the theme of the game. In addition, the lighting of the bezel 15 is changed to correspond to that of the theme.
Figure 6 shows an alternative player interface of a second embodiment. Like the first embodiment, the game images 611 to 616 of a plurality of games are displayed in the game selection area of 605. In this embodiment, the game images are themed as record covers as opposed to the CD jewel cases of figure 4. As in figure 4, the game images are shown on an animated circular table 608 to give a visual indication that the game images can be cycled through the focus position 607. As depicted in Figure 6, the game image (611 in the example) in the focus position
607 is of a first size, whereas those in the secondary positions (612-616 in the example) are each of one of second sizes. The first size is larger than the second size to provide a perception to the player that the circular table 608 has three dimensional characteristics,

Further, as the animated circular table 608 is cycled, a game image moving into the focus position 607 is increased in size (e.g. towards the first size from the second sizes), whereas a game image moving out of the focus position 607 is decreased in size (e.g. towards the second sizes from the first size). The differences and changes in the game image size simulate a three10 dimensional carousel on a two-dimensional display. The player can cycle through the game images in a first direction by swiping in the direction of arrow C or cycle through the images in the second direction by swiping in direction D. An additional feature of figure 6 is that all of the games are playable at the same denominations being 1 cent 681, 2 cents 682, 5 cents 683 and 10 cents 684 as shown within the game selection area 605.
A secondary game selection area 609 is also provided in the embodiment of figure 6. In this example the secondary game area comprised two separate game image components for each game. A first component 622, 632, 642, 651, 661, 671 which has the name of the game and a second component 621, 631 to 641, 653, 662 and 672 which comprises an image corresponding to the game. As shown in figure 6, the game image in the secondary display area corresponding to the game image displayed at the focus area 607 is highlighted; in this case, by enlarging the image corresponding to the game and highlighting the name of the game. The available denominations are positioned on bars to the side of the names of the game, 685, 686, 687 and 688 to provide an alternative selection mechanism. Also shown in embodiment of figure 6 is that the game controller 101 is configured to carry out a common game in response to a trigger condition being met where in the common game can be triggered irrespective of which game is selected. In Figure 6 the common game is a single line three reel game, and an image 605 corresponding to an outcome of a single line three reel game is displayed to indicate the

2018200351 17 Sep 2019 possibility that the controller will trigger the common game. When the common game is triggered, it is superimposed on the display of a particular selected game once it is triggered.
Further aspects of the method will be apparent from the above description of the system. It will be appreciated that at least part of the method will be implemented electronically, for example, digitally by a processor executing program code. In this respect, in the above description certain steps are described as being carried out by the game controller 101 of a gaming machine, it will be appreciated that such steps will often require a number of sub-steps to be carried out for the steps to be implemented electronically, for example due to hardware or programming limitations. For example, to carry out a step such as evaluating, determining or selecting, a processor may need to compute several values and compare those values .
As indicated above, the method may be embodied in program code. The program code could be supplied in a number of ways, for example on a tangible computer readable storage medium, such as a disc or a memory device, e.g. an EEPROM, (for example, that could replace part of memory 103) or as a data signal (for example, by transmitting it from a server). Persons skilled in the art will appreciate that program code provides a series of instructions executable by the processor.
It will be understood to persons skilled in the art of the invention that many modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, in particular it will be apparent that certain features of embodiments of the invention can be employed to form further embodiments .

Claims (19)

1. A gaming machine interface for a multi-game gaming machine, the interface comprising:
a touch sensitive display; and a controller for controlling the touch sensitive display to display game images corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of games playable with a multi-game gaming machine, wherein the controller is configured to control the display to display one of the plurality of game images at a focus position and at least part of the respective game images of the other games of the plurality games at respective ones of a plurality of secondary positions, and wherein the controller is configured to respond to: a first touch input via the touch sensitive display by cycling the game images through the focus position in a first direction, a second touch input via the touch sensitive display by cycling the game images through the focus position in a second direction, and a third touch input via the touch sensitive display by selecting the game corresponding to the game image at the focus position, wherein the controller is further configured to control the touch sensitive display to display a secondary display area in which further game images of each of the games are displayed, and to control display to highlight the further game image in the secondary display area that corresponds to the game image displayed at the focus position.
2. The gaming machine interface as claimed in claim 1, wherein the secondary positions include first and second secondary positions, and wherein the one of the plurality of game images displayed at the focus position overlaps the respective game images displayed at first and second secondary positions .

3. The gaming machine as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the arrangement of the secondary positions is such that the player can cycle through the game images continuously in either the first or second directions.
4. The gaming machine interface as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the secondary positions are arranged such that the game images at each secondary position are partially overlapped by at least one of the game image at the focus position and a game image at another secondary position.
5. The gaming machine interface as claimed in claim 4, wherein enough of each game image at a secondary position is visible to allow a user to identify each game.
6. The gaming machine interface as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein, in response to said third touch input, the controller controls the display to display a denomination selection game image for the selected game that includes a set of one or more denominations available for the game.
7. The gaming machine interface as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6, is further configured to enable the selection of a game to play directly from the secondary display area.
8. A multi-game gaming machine comprising:
a gaming machine interface comprising: a touch sensitive display; and a controller for controlling the touch sensitive display to display game images corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of games playable with a multi-game gaming machine, wherein the controller is configured to control the display to display one of the plurality of game images at a focus position and at least part of the respective game images of the other games of the plurality games at

2018200351 17 Sep 2019 respective ones of a plurality of secondary positions, and wherein the controller is configured to respond to:
a first touch input via the touch sensitive display by cycling the game images through the focus position in a first direction, a second touch input via the touch sensitive display by cycling the game images through the focus position in a second direction, and a third touch input via the touch sensitive display by selecting the game corresponding to the game image at the focus position, wherein the controller is further configured to control the touch sensitive display to display a secondary display area in which further game images of each of the games are displayed, and to control display to highlight the further game image in the secondary display area that corresponds to the game image displayed at the focus position; and a game controller configured to carry out each of the games in response to the respective game being selected.
9. The multi-game gaming machine as claimed in claim 8, wherein the game controller is also configure to carry out a common game in response to a trigger condition being met, wherein the common game can be triggered irrespective of which game is selected.
10. The multi-game gaming machine as claimed in claim 8 or claim 9, comprising at least one light separate to the display, wherein the controller is arranged to control the colour of the at least one light based on the selected game.
11. An electronic method of operating a gaming machine, the method comprising:
controlling a touch sensitive display of the gaming machine to display game images corresponding to respective ones of a plurality of games playable with a multi-game

controlling the display to display one of the plurality of game images at a focus position and at least part of the respective game images of the other games of the plurality games at respective ones of a plurality of secondary positions;
controlling the display to cycle the game images through the focus position in a first direction in response to a first touch input via the touch sensitive display;
controlling the display to cycle the game images through the focus position in a second direction in response to a second touch input via the touch sensitive display;
selecting the game corresponding to the game image at the focus position in response to a third touch input via the touch sensitive display; and further controlling the touch sensitive display to display a secondary display area in which further game images of each of the games are displayed, and to control display to highlight the further game image in the secondary display area that corresponds to the game image displayed at the focus position.
12. The method as claimed in claim 11, wherein the secondary positions include first and second secondary positions, and wherein the one of the plurality of game images displayed at the focus position overlaps the respective game images displayed at first and second secondary positions .
13. The method as claimed in claim 11 or claim 12, wherein game images can be cycled through continuously in either the first or second directions.
14. The method as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 13, comprising displaying the game images at each secondary position such that they are each partially overlapped by at least one of the game image at the focus position and a

15. The method as claimed in claim 14, displaying each game image at a secondary position so that enough of the respective game image is visible to allow a user to identify each game.
16. The method as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 15, comprising, in response to said third touch input, controlling the display to display a denomination selection game image for the selected game that includes a set of one or more denominations available for the game.
17. The method as claimed in any one of claims 11 to 16, further comprising carrying out the selected game.
18. Computer program code which when executed implements the method of any one of claims 11 to 18.
19. A tangible computer readable medium comprising the computer program code of claim 18.
