[5] In another embodiment, the comfort patch further comprises a carrier body having the skin-friendly adhesive layer on an inner side thereof and the soft low friction surface layer on an external side thereof.
[6] In another embodiment, the comfort patch further comprises a middle moisture absorbent layer.
[7] In another embodiment, the carrier body is moisture absorbent.
[8] In another embodiment, the comfort patch is a rectangular patch.
[9] In another embodiment, the comfort patch comprises at least one curved edge.
[10] In another embodiment, upper and lower edges of the comfort patch are both generally arc-shaped.
[11] In another embodiment, the comfort patch is shaped generally as a sector of a ring.
[12] In another embodiment, the comfort patch comprises marked cut-off portions for customising the shape of the comfort patch.
[13] In another aspect, the present invention provides a skin comfort patch comprising an adhesive tape backing layer, a layer of double sided tape, and a top layer of moisture absorbent material.
[14] In another aspect, the present invention provides a skin comfort patch comprising an adhesive tape backing layer, a layer of double sided tape, and a top layer of soft low friction material.
[15] Other aspects of the invention are also disclosed.
Brief Description of the Drawings [16] Notwithstanding any other forms which may fall within the scope of the present invention, preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of examples only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: [17] Figure 1 is shows a skin comfort patch in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, which shows (a) the patch applied to an inner thigh portion of a user and (b) a schematic cross-section of the patch showing the layers thereof; [18] Figure 2 shows the user with legs closed showing the comfort patch preventing inner sections of the user’s thighs from rubbing each other.
[19] Figure 3 is shows a skin comfort patch in accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention, [20] Figure 4 shows the skin comfort patch the patch of Figure 3 applied to an inner thigh portion of a user, where (a) shows the user’s thighs apart and (b) shows the user’s legs closed showing the comfort patch preventing inner sections the user’s thighs from rubbing each other [21] Figure 5 shows a skin comfort patch in accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention having marked portions that can be cut off depending on intended use, and [22] Figure 6 (a) and (b) shows the skin comfort patch of Figure 5 with the respective marked portions cut off.
Description of Embodiments [23] It should be noted in the following description that like or the same reference numerals in different embodiments denote the same or similar features.
[24] Figure 1 shows a skin comfort patch 10 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The comfort patch 10 is a rectangular patch and comprises a carrier body 18 with a skin-friendly adhesive layer 11 on an inner side and a soft low friction surface layer 12 on an external side. The comfort patch 10 can also include a middle moisture absorbent layer or the carrier body 18 can be moisture absorbent. In the embodiment, the low friction surface 12 is provided by polyester blend fabric or other suitable material.
[25] Alternatively, the comfort patch can simply comprise the soft low friction surface layer 12 having a skin-friendly adhesive layer 11 on one side thereof.
[26] The comfort patch 10 is thus an adhesive patch which is applied to areas of the body which may rub against another part of the body or another item such as clothing. In one example as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the comfort patch 10 is applied to a user’s inner thigh section 50 to prevent sweating and chaffing as the user’s inner thighs pass by and rub against each other. The user only needs one patch on one of their thighs as the top layer of the patch 10 is a soft absorbent material that does not irritate the skin, keeps it dry and free from chaffing or sweat pimples.
[27] The comfort patch 10 provides the user with many advantages. The comfort patch 10 is invisible to others, comfortable to wear, easy to apply and remove, becomes more attached to the user’s thigh as they perspire further, and makes wearing a skirt or dress comfortable and irritant free.
[28] Whilst preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described, it will be apparent to skilled persons that modifications can be made to the embodiments described. For example, the comfort patch 10 can include one or more horizontal slits in the centre section for better skin breathing. The slits can be used as a guide for positioning the comfort patch 10.
[29] In one embodiment, the comfort patch 10 consists of 3 layers, an adhesive tape backing, and a layer of double sided tape and a top layer of moisture absorbent material.
[30] The comfort patch 10 prevents sweating and chaffing in between the thigh area, under the breast, and any other areas of the body where rubbing and chafing can occur. The comfort patch 10 can also be used where a portion of the body can rub against a piece of clothing, for example portions of a dress or tight pants. For athletes, the comfort patch 10 can be used in areas of possible chafing such as sitting bone areas for cyclists.
[31] The comfort patch 10 can be made in any colour and skin colour patches can be used to cover scars and tattoos. The comfort patch 10 can also be made in any size or dimensions.
[32] Figures 3 and 4 show another embodiment of a comfort patch 10b according to the present invention. The comfort patch 10b is similar to the comfort patch 10 above but comprising curved upper and lower edges 15 and 16. The upper and lower edges 15 and 16 are both generally downward arc-shaped. This results in the comfort patch 10b having the general shape of being a sector of a ring, which provides for easier attachment and comfort to curved sections of the body such as the inner thigh.
[33] The comfort patch can be shaped for different body parts such as long thinner sectors of a ring for placement under the breasts and other desired shapes to protect against clothing rub.
[34] The adhesive tape back layer that adheres to the body can be made adhesive on both sides which would eliminate the need for the double-sided tape being in the middle holding the two outside layers together.
[35] Also, a moisture absorbing material that has a flexible strong adhesive backing can be provided, once again eliminating the need for the double-sided tape. The adhesive material will adhere straight onto the backing tape.
[36] The product is particularly suitable for elderly patients with chaffing. The product can be provided in rolls so that nurses will be able to cut the sizes they need depending on the area and size of the patients’ needs.
[37] Figures 5 and 6 show another embodiment of a comfort patch 10c according to the present invention. The comfort patch 10c is similar to the comfort patch 10b above with the curved upper and lower edges 15 and 16, but is longer. The upper and lower edges 15 and 16 are both also generally downward arc-shaped. The comfort patch 10c comprises marked portions 21 and 22 at the upper corners thereof adjacent the upper edge 15. The marked portions are indicated by curved cut lines 24. A user would cut off the marked portion 21 to arrive at the comfort patch shown in Figure 6(a) if the user is to use the patch on the inner thigh portion of the right leg. Similarly, a user would cut off the marked portion 22 to arrive at the comfort patch shown in Figure 6(b) if the user is to use the patch on the inner thigh portion of the left leg. This allows the one comfort patch to be customised as needed.
