United States Patent 3,297,028 GROIN BANDAGE Pearl B. Murray, Pine Tree Road, Litchfield, Maine 04350 Filed Sept. 5, 1963, Ser. No. 306,903 4 Claims. (Cl. 128--157) This invention relates to bandages and more particularly to bandages for use on the groin.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a groin bandage which will be comfortable and will stay in position satisfactorily for twenty-four hours.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a groin bandage which will have a plurality of spaced apart tapes which will be placed in particular positions on the groin area, thus providing means for stationary and comfortable wear.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a bandage which will 'be equally efiicient for use on other parts of the body, such as for an underarm injury, or for an injury under the knee,

Other objects of the invention are to provide a groin bandage bearing the above objects in mind which is of.

simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and use.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIG. 4 is a cross sectional view showing a modified form of construction of the invention,

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a bandage made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a pair of panels of semi-circular configuration 12 made of cloth or other suitable material and stitched together in a well known manner, thus providing a maximum of flexibility and comfort to the wearer. A pad 14 of hexagonal configuration is made of a suitable absorbent substance providing a maximum of comfort against the epidermis of the groin area, and a pair of tapes 16 are angularly spaced apart and abut with each other on the outside portion of one of the panels 12 and are adhered one below the abdomen and the other toward the side of the patient. A pair of similar tapes 18 are adhered to the opposite panel 12 and are of the same V-shaped configuration and one tape 18 is adhered around the hip area while the other is adhered to the thigh. A pair of spaced apart tapes 20 are adhered to panels 12 and provide a means for a secondary support by adhering to the hip area and following the 'line of the groin and fastening to the leg of the patient.

In use, bandage 10 is placed on the groin with hexagonal pad 14 against the epidermis of the groin area with the distribution of the bandage 10 depending upon the shape of the person.

It will be recognized that bandage 10 may be used efliciently and comfortably for an underarm injury or for aninjury under the knee and may also be used in various other locations on the body when desired.

A modified form of bandage 10a is shown to include a circular panel 12a having a pad 1400 which provides absorption means and is placed against the skin of the wearer. A pair of tapes with adhesive backing 16a are V-shaped in configuration and in combination with a pair of tapes 18a of similar configuration are adhered to the groin area or other area in the same manner as described in the main embodiment of the invention. Adhesive backed tapes 20a are also adhered to panel 12a in a manner to that described in the main embodiment, thus providing an eflicient and comfortable bandage.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A groin bandage comprising, in combination, a pair of semi-circular panels made of cloth of such Weave as to allow the bandage to breathe and. said panels being stitched together along a central seaming line thus forming a circular configuration, a pair of V-shaped adhesive tapes carried by each of said panels providing securing and holding means for said bandage, a hexagonal absorbent pad carried by said panels providing absorption and covering for a wound, a pair of spaced apart straight tapes secured to said seaming line providing further holding of said bandage to a patients skin, said spaced apart tapes adhering to said panels and being in alignment with each other on said seaming line of said panels external of said bandage.

The combination according to claim 1 wherein said straight tapes being adapted to adhere to said panels along said seam of said panels, thus providing means for securing one section of said panel around the hip area and said opposite straight tape provides means for securing by adhesive means said bandage along the line of the groin.

The combination according to claim 1 wherein each of said pairs of V-shaped tape is angularly cut and is adhered to one of said panels and abut each other, one extending end providing a means for adhering beneath the abdomen of the patient, and the other end being in abutment with the other of said tapes providing means for adhering said bandage along the hip section of the patient in the upper extremity of said bandage.

The combination according to claim 3, wherein the spaced apart and opposite V-shaped configurational tapes are angularly cut and abut with each other and are adhered to the other panel and provide a means for securing by adhesive backing of said tapes around the hip area on one end and 'below said bandage to the thigh area, thus securing said bandage comfortably and efficiently to the desired area of the human body.

Claims

1. A GROIN BANDAGE COMPRISING, IN COMBINATION, A PAIR OF SEMI-CIRCULAR PANELS MADE OF CLOTH OF SUCH WEAVE AS TO ALLOW THE BANDAGE TO BREATHE AND SAID PANELS BEING STITCHED TOGETHER ALONG A CENTRAL SEAMING LINE THUS FORMING A CIRCULAR CONFIGURATION, A PAIR OF V-SHAPED ADHESIVE TAPES CARRIED BY EACH OF SAID PANELS PROVIDING SECURING AND HOLDING MEANS FOR SAID BANDAGE, A HEXAGONAL ABSORBENT PAD CARRIED BY SAID PANELS PROVIDING ABSORPTION AND COVERING FOR A WOUND, A PAIR OF SPACED APART STRAIGHT TAPES SECURED TO SAID SEAMING LINE PROVIDING FURTHER HOLDING OF SAID BANDAGE TO A PATIENT''S SKIN, SAID SPACED APART TAPES ADHERING TO SAID PANELS AND BEING IN ALIGNMENT WITH EACH OTHER ON SAID SEAMING LINE OF SAID PANELS EXTERNAL OF SAID BANDAGE.
