"Procedure for Penile Girth Enhancement"
Field of the Invention
[001] The present invention relates to a method for enhancement of penis girth.
Background to the Invention
[002] As penis size can be a source of anxiety for many men, an increasing number of men are opting to undergo procedures to increase the girth and/or length of their penis. Surgical options for such size increases have been available for many years. Such procedures however include a number of risks due to their surgical nature and can have adverse results such as scarring.
[003] In order to provide a less invasive and safer procedure with less scarring, injectable fillers have been used in order to increase the girth of the penis. Lipofilling has been considered relatively safe and effective, however has a drawback in that fat tissue is subject to resorption and results may therefore not be lasting. In more recent years, the use of other injectable fillers, such as hyaluronic acid have been tested for such procedures. Such injectables appear relatively safe and effective. With any such injectable filler however there is generally the possibility of the material not filling in a consistent manner, thereby resulting in undesirable protrusions or indentations.
[004] The present invention relates to a method of using an injectable filler for penile girth enhancement aimed at overcoming, at least in part, the abovementioned issues.
Summary of the Invention
[001] According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of penile girth enhancement comprising the steps of administering to a patient a compound to induce an erection or semi-erection and then applying of a filler to the penis via a cannula.
[002] Preferably the compound comprises a vasodilator applied via injection to the corpus cavernosum.
[003] Preferably the vasodilator comprises Prostaglandin El.
[004] In a preferred embodiment, the filler comprises a hyaluronic acid gel.
[005] Preferably the filler is injected via access points made through the skin and superficial Dartos fascia.
[006] In a preferred embodiment, the access points are made at the proximal, distal and midshaft, laterally at the three, six and nine o'clock position.
[007] The access points may also be made dorsally or ventrally.
[008] Preferably the access points are created by a relatively sharp needle and the filler applied with a relatively blunt cannula.
[009] In one embodiment, the needle comprises a 21G needle and the cannula comprises a 22Gx7Omm cannula.
[0010] Preferably the filler is injected into the plane between the Dartos fascia and the Bucks fascia.
[0011] In one embodiment, multiple passes are made with the blunt cannula delivering approximately 0.05 mL aliquots/ microthreads of filler with the total volume ranging between 10 and 20 mL.
[0012] 12. Preferably the method includes the step of manually massaging the penis to smooth any irregularities.
[0013] Preferably the method includes the step of numbing the penis by an appropriate anaesthetic.
[0014] The anaesthetic preferably comprises a cream applied to the penis, which is wrapped in a plastic film.
[0015] The method preferably includes the step of applying antibiotic ointment to the access points and placing a tubular bandage over the penis.
[0016] In a further embodiment, the method includes the steps of applying a tubular stretchable silicone sheath to the penis after completion of the procedure.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
[005] The present invention relates to a method of penile girth enhancement and will be described, by way of example, below.
[006] The method of the present invention includes the step of numbing the penis by an appropriate anaesthetic. The anaesthetic in a preferred embodiment comprises a cream applied to the penis, which is wrapped in a plastic film.
[007] The method includes the step of inducing an erection or semi-erection prior to injection of a filler. The step of inducing the erection or semi-erection is via administering a vasodilator to the patient. The vasodilator is preferably Prostaglandin El and the Prostaglandin El is administered via lateral injection into the corpus cavernosum.
[008] The genital area is sterilised as part of the procedure of the invention. This sterilisation may comprise application of chlorhexidine wash and draping placed on the genital region surrounding the penis while the Prostaglandin El is taking effect.
[009] Once the Prostaglandin El has taken effect, the injection of the filler is performed. The filler preferably comprises a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. The filler is injected via access points made through the skin and superficial Dartos fascia. The access points are preferably made at the proximal, distal and midshaft, laterally at the three, six and nine o'clock positions. Other access points however may be made dorsally or ventrally, in order to allow optimal 360 degree smooth coverage, trying to avoid superficial veins. It is believed that patients are less likely to form scars at these access points.
[010] The access points are created by a relatively sharp needle. The needle may comprise a 21G needle.
[011] The filler is injected into the access points by a relatively blunt cannula. The cannula may, for example, comprises a 22Gx70mm cannula. The use of a relatively blunt cannula increases safety of the procedure by reducing the likelihood of the cannula penetrating the deep Bucks fascia, causing intravascular occlusion of the dorsal artery or deep dorsal vein, traumatise the corpora, or occlude the urethra. The relatively blunt cannula also causes less bruising from the superficial veins.
[012] The filler is optimally injected into the plane between the Dartos fascia and the Bucks fascia. Some patients will naturally have more fibrous septa in this layer which can create some resistance when the blunt cannula slides up and down, however, this is generally well tolerated by patients. Multiple passes are made with the blunt cannula delivering approximately 0.05 mL aliquots/microthreads of filler with the total volume ranging between 10 and 20 mL, depending on the length of the patient's penis.
[013] The penis is then manually massaged to smooth any irregularities. The procedure is completed by applying antibiotic ointment to the access points and placing a tubular bandage over the penis, which should be worn for at least 24 hours.
[014] In a further embodiment, a tubular stretchable silicone sheath is applied to the penis after completion of the procedure. The sheath remains in place for up to two weeks. The sheath is provided to prevent folding of the penis and movement of the product.
[015] It will be readily apparent to persons skilled in the relevant arts that various modifications and improvements may be made to the foregoing embodiments, in addition to those already described, without departing from the basic inventive concepts of the present invention.
