Description of innovation
Opened Service Neutral Protection Device is an electrical safety protection device against the faulty current created by the event of opened service neutral.
This device can be used in conjunction with the main switch in a main electrical board with MEN earthing system for small plans, special small service, housing and out-buildings etc.
In MEN earthing system, when the service neutral or PEN has opened circuit, the earth stick and the water pipe bonding will become an acting neutral to complete the electricity current cycle, so that massive electricity current will go through the earth stick and the water pipe, which is life - threatening to humans and livestock.
Opened Service Neutral Protection Device utilise the MEN earthing system to pick up the fault current and cut off the Supply Active(s) thus to help to prevent accident happening.
Opened Service Neutral Protection Device has 1. A neutral tunnel for a service neutral conductor to go through to connect to the neutral link where connecting to the MEN earthing system. 2. 2 current detection coils, one for the neutral tunnel and one for the Active conductor(s). 3. An internal circuit to monitor the current in the service neutral and the service active(s) and to generate an output signal to trigger the ON/OFF switch thus cut off the power when a fault current is detected. 4. A trigger to force the ON/OFF switch to open contact on active conductor(s), 5. A test facility including a test button, a neutral pigtail and a test circuit.

- Innovation Claims Claim 1 Opened Service Neutral Protection Device is an electrical safety protection device that prevents potential electrocution from opened Service Neutral and opened PEN, the device comprises: A current detection tunnel means through the device for the incoming Neutral to go through to connect to a Neutral Link, screw terminals means for incoming and outgoing Active conductor(s), a switch means to be able to manually turn the device on and off, a test button means for simulating a fault current for testing, a neutral connection means to connect to Neutral Link to assist the means of providing power to an switch triggering circuit means to trigger the on/off switch when opened Service Neutral is detected.
- Claim 2 Current detection tunnel is a current monitoring unit inside the Opened Service Neutral Protection Device which comprises: A channel means fitted into a toroidal core means with enamelled wire windings means so that when the service neutral conductor pass through this channel, the current in the service neutral conductor is picked up by the winding and a signal is sent to the switch triggering circuit means.
- Claim 3 Switch triggering circuit is a logic processing unit that sends a signal to a trigger, it includes: A current detection tunnel means detects current in the Neutral conductor, an enamelled wire winding means detects current in the Active conductor(s) at a same time, these detected signals are sent to a comparator circuit means to be transformed into a signal to activate the trigger thus to turn off the switch when an opened neutral is detected.
- Claim 4 Opened Service Neutral Protection Device combined with circuit breaker is an electrical safety protection device that can be used as a main switch, it comprises: an over current protection device means and an Opened Service Neutral Protection Device to prevent electrocution hazard form Opened Service Neutral and to provide over current protection at a same time.
