[0006] Additionally the rescue sheet may be provided with cross straps preferably with hookand loop fasteningmeans to provide additional security frapersonbeing evacuated. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OFT DRWIG
[0007 1Thepresent invention will nowe described by way of reference to the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure is aplan view of anenbodient ofarescue apparatus in aordancewith
the present invention; Figure 2shows therescue apparatus offigure 1in operation; or Figure 3is aplan view sinilarto Figure iof afurther embodiment of arescue apparatus of the present invention.
[0008] InFigures1 andof the drawings, there isshown arescueapparatus(10) comprising an elongated sheet (12) typicallyformedofplasticsmaterialsuchas woven nylon.
[0009 Thesheet (12)has a first end (13) and a second end (14). The first end (13) is relativelynarrowand is arranged toaccommodatethe ot andleg areaofapersonto be evacuated. The secondend(14)has relatively wideportions(16)andisarrangedto accommodatethehead and shoulder areaofa person to beevacuated,
[0010]Theend(14) prefeblyhas a padded region(18)for the persons headregion
[0011] The end (13) has an elongatedpulling strap (20) sewn thereto Theend(14) has a further elongated pulling strap (22) sewn thereto.
[0012] The pulingstraps(20)and (22)areeachcoectedtothesheet(12) attwospaced apart locations as shownFurther the straps (20) and (22) are preferably each sewn at approximately the points (2theret enable second or third rescuers to hold the strap (20) or (22) if required.
[0013] The apparatus (10)rthercomprisesaVshapedstrap(24)onnectedtothesheet (12) at two spacedapartlocationsadjacentthepadded region(8)Thestrap(24is arranged to extend across opposite shoulders of anevacuee. Further, the strap (24) is provided with abuckle (26).
[0014] Aso, anelongatedlengthadjustingstrap(28)isconnectedattwospacedapart locations to the end (13;of the sheet (12.The strap (28) is arranged to reduce the overall lengthoftheapparatus(1( Theapparatus (10) canaccommodateevacueesofawide rangeofheihts. However, it is sometimes necessary to reducetheoveralllengthforan
evaueewitha lesser height. In this connection,thestrap(28)isarrangedtobe connected to the buckle (26) so that the evacuee is held frontthe shoulders to the feet and is unlkely to slip fron this positionasshowninfigure 2.
0015] Further,;the rescue apparatus(10has plurality of crossstraps(30)which are in theformofrelativelywidehook andloop fasteners.Thecross straps (30) arepreferably fom 50 to 100mm in width,
[0016] Th crossstraps (30) are stitched to the sheet(12) Severalcrossstraps (30) are located atthe relativelywideportionof the end (14) andonasidethereof A corresponding hook and loop fastening material(32.)extends longitudinallytoalong the opposite side of the end (14),
[00DJ Aditionahookand loop fsteners34) are disposed adjcn to the end (13) of the apparatus (10) These fateners (34)aresecuredtothesheet()at(6)andare arrangedtowrap around the legregion of anevacueeasshowninfigure2,
[0018]Further,asseeninFigure2theapparatus(10)hascarry handles (38) sewn to the sheet(12).Typically,carryhandles(38)maybesewninoneachsideasshowninfigure
2. iThecarry*thandles (38) shoudpreferablyoniyeusedwhenheprt( containing an evacuee cannotbhepufled for some reason,
[0019] Frther, the sheet (12) is ticaly mounted on afuteboard(40)as shownin fire 2.The fluteboard (40) mayhavefiesextending along the flute board (40) to assist in pulling andtoassistinslidingdownstairs.
[0020] Still fiuther, the flute board (40) nay bedisposedundertheevauees'shoulder. This assists in reducing friction at the shoulders when the evacuation apparatus (10) is pulled along a floor.
[0021] Itispreferredthat the evacuee be pued along thef oor omtheend (13) and adjacent to the feet as this is easier and the rescuer is not lifting the evacuee's head and shoulders off the floor. Also, themode ofoperationprovidesbettermanualhandling posture for the rescuer.
[00221 Alsowhen going downstairs it ispreerred that the rescuer at the end(3should hold the strap(28) to hold the weight of theevacuee with the rescuer holdingthe strap 10.
[0023]The padded area (i8) has the advantage ofreducingriskof head and neck over extending. A small pillow or cushion may be added for additional support,
[00243 As shown in figure 2,theend (13)may be pued over the evauee's feet whether straps (26) and (28) areonnectedtogether
FOO2LS]The rescue apparatus(10) may be provided in rolled or folding version
[0026] The present invention illnow be describedfurther inrelation to the embodiment of Figure 3. This embodiment is similar to that of Figures 1 and2and like reference numerals denote like parts,
[0027] However, intheembodent 50 of Figure 3, the sheet 12 is replaced by asheet 52 As shown, the sheet 2 is generally inthe shape of atrunatedtriangle.Ithasa narrowfirstend53 and a broader second end 54 The firstend 53 is locatedat an intermediate positionanddoes not extend hyto an outerend 56oftherescueapparatus 50
[0028 Theouterend 56oftheapparatus 50 is formedbyan outer end of theflute board 40,
[0029] As withtheembodientof Figures and,thelengthoftheembodment50mv be reduced by means ofthesrap28ifrequired In thisease, the sheet 52 is unaffected by the reductioninlength of the apparatus 50 as the sheet 52doesnotextend to the end 56
[0030]Modifications and vacations as would be apparent to askilledaddresseeare deemed to"be withnthescopeofthepresentinvention
