Abstract
A means of holding formed twist drill to be Lathe tools in accurate formed metal holders that are fastened in the tool post of Lathe with the bottom holder with filed or abraded groove being main holder a thin sliver can also act as top holder for various Lathe tools of various cutting types in a metal Lathe. kr) k I kr)I
Description
This is r, rpplicatiori for A Innovation Patent. Following Provisional application 2014 901952; of the 18/5/2014. The invention is the improvised use of common metal and masonary drills for use as multi-task Lathe tooling.. basically the slice of soldered-in 5 Tungsten Carbide in Masonary twist drills in a central slot is secured very well and the relatively low cost masonary drill can be adopted for use as a multi-task Lathe tool. Two blocks of metal have a groove.ground quickly along central surface which is.: filed with a metal file in the-relatively, soft mets.l to fairly [0 precise dimensions se that the two blocks form a four sided cavity. or six sided cavity to support the drill which has these positive faces ground to fit lengtitudinal four or six sided cavity or slot. Masonary drill lengths can be ground and then filed for accurate fitting while tool steel metal drills have to be ground with 5 abrasives for accurate fitting.Figure I shows the two steel or steel alley blocks of .seft metal formed to be holder efth she -awist drill that is .. now the Lathe tool. These blocks are held and tightened down in the tool post of the Lathe to rigidly hold this improvised Lathe tool. Figure Ia shows the block rough ground by a angle 20 grinder in a vice with block I 'and groove 2. Figure lb show t e finshed metal block after after accurate filing and accurate 6'ove 2a. Figure Ic is a cress-section of the two blocks I with accurate grooves 2a to hold ground and prepared drill in tool poet of Lathe. Figure Id is a Iso-metric view of the two blocks holding pre-pared 5 and ground twist drill 3 with two cutting surfaces ground in Tungsten barbide: tip wbich can serve for. straight external cylindrical cutting or for internall cylindril boring in the Lathe. The drill 3 with ground carbide points 4a and 4b forms the Lathe tool held in finished holders I and assembly is fastened in tool post of Lathe. ) Figure Ie is a part circularior curved longtitudinal piece of soft ~- 2 that can form the top block so shaped drill can sit firmly in bottom holder I and curved piece of metal 5 bears down on drill and bottom holder by fastening bolts in tool post of Lathe. So formed drill is fixed 6 by curved metal 5 in base block I in 5 Lathe's tool post with curved metal not giving so much height in tooli.post as assembly is fastened in tool post of Lathe. Figure 2 shows the four basid types of Lathe tooling. Figure 2a shows a cylindrical ring tip 4d adjacent to a external. cylindrical cutting tip 4c *r haped drill 3. Also withdouble adjacent tips en same 1 same drill grinding tips can be such that tip has different relief faces for various cutting applications so drill can simply be turned ever 1800 to access these faces. Figure 2b is parting tool ground onto front of drill 3 for parting or slicing applications 4e. Figure 2c is drill formed with a thread cutting set of faces on the 5 front tip 4f. So formed drills that are the actual lathe tools are of Tungsten Carbide ceramic drills for steel and steel alloys and then even metal twist drill- of tool steel for forming drills into Lathe tooling to fit into holders for principally cutting soft and soft non-ferrous metals (e.g. Brass).
Claims (3)
- 3. The means of holding formed twist drills between two formed. metal blocks with a four or six sided groove combination suits parting tools, external cylindrical cutting tools end internal cylindrical boring tooling as well as thread cutting tool faces 5 all ground on twist drills formed to be held in holders that are held in tool post of Lathe.
- 4. The means of holding formed twist drills is when drill hasi been filed accurately to fit in four or six sided grooves in holders in case of Masonary Tungsten Carbide tipped drills or abraded 20 twist drills of high speed steel for soft metal Lathe turning.
- 5. The means of holding formed twist drills with being soft steel masonary drills with a tungsten Carbide for steel and steel alley turning or Just high speed steel drills for soft metal turning. GEORGE ANTHONY CONTOLEON I5TH.,MAY,2015, APPLICANT DATE
