Abstract

An outdoor display sign of the type used by real estate agents to show images and print has a frame made of cornerjoined extrusions with a continuous groove around the front face of the frame into which tensioning strips are insertable, whereby a sheet of pliant material bearing print is tensionable across the face of the frame. The edges of the sheet overlap the frame and are imprisoned by a series of push fit caps which engage the frame perimeter. 2014-12-10,C:\Users\Sharnd eflocuents\SPECIFLCAI ONSibriner-innpat.wpd,5 ~~o2 4 i _________________2_ C/ ____ 5G2,

Description

1 TITLE OF INVENTION Wrap Panel Board TECHNICAL FIELD [0001] This invention concerns outdoor display signs of the type used by real estate agents to show images of buildings and printed data pertaining to their selling points. BACKGROUND [0002] These can be 3600 x 2400mm but range in size down to 2090 x 2090mm. Such signs must be attachable to walls or supported by upright posts, It is convenient to be able to use images which are electronically printed on a translucent or transparent skin so that the sign can be back-lit if required. Attaching such pliant material to a sign requires care because wind forces disturb the sign, moreover if ripples develop the pictures are spoiled and the print becomes difficult to read. The frames must keep their geometric shape while being stored, transported and erected but importantly during the exchange of one sheet for the replacement because this occurs frequently in the working life of a display sign. SUMMARY OF INVENTION [0003] The apparatus aspect of the invention provides a display sign for outdoors comprising a support frame made of corner joined extrusions each with a front face and a rear face, the front face of each extrusion having a groove for reception of a tensioning strip insertable into the groove and a channel section cap for at least some of the extrusions which cap partially overlies the front face and the rear face of the extrusions for imprisoning a flexible sheet on which the display appears. [0004] The frames are commonly rectangular but hexagonal and octagonal shapes are possible using this construction. 201112-1 0,C:\Users\ShadeDocunents\SPECFICATIONStrinerinnpatupd,1 2 Advantageous Effects of Invention [0005] 1. The plasticised fabric can be maintained at constant tension despite temperature variation. [0006] 2. The fabric can be back-lit from the rear. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS [0007] One embodiment of the invention is now described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: [0008] Figure 1 is a front view of the assembled frame. [0009] Figure 2 is an exploded view of a fragment of the frame. DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS [0010] Referring now to the drawings, four aluminium alloy extrusions 2690 x 80 x 45mm, 2, 4, 6, 8 are butted together to form the rectangular frame shown. They are braced by corner gussets 10 and secured with adhesive. The frame is strengthened by 70 x 35mm metal struts 12, 14, 16. The front face of each extrusion has a continuous groove 18, 16mm deep and 5mm wide. This is spaced 15mm from the perimeter 20 of the frame. [0011] Plastic strip 22, 14,5 x 4.5mm is a slide fit in the groove. A plasticised fabric sheet 24 2820 x 2850mm is laid over the frame and the overlapping edges are draped behind the frame. Strips 22 are inserted into the grooves in order to tension the sheet. These strips become a push fit due to the interposition of the sheet. Sheet 24 is a woven 1000 denier fabric supplied by Carr Australia Pty Ltd. This is printed on an HP3000 Latex machine. [0012] A zinculume cap 26 has a 24mm high rear wall 28 separated from 12mm deep front wall 2014-12-1O.C:\UseisS harlenDocrnents'SPECtFICATIONSbrinerinnpatapd,2 3 30 by a 45mn spacer wall 32. [0013] Figure 2 shows how the sheet overlap drapes across the perimeter and the rear face of the extrusion. The cap is a push fit on the extrusion. The cap ends are notched to avoid mutual overlap. [0014] The frame can be drilled to take fasteners to connect the frame to poles walls or fences. [0015] It is to be understood that the word "comprising" as used throughout the specification is to be interpreted in its inclusive forn, ie. use of the word "comprising" does not exclude the addition of other elements. [0016] It is to be understood that various modifications of and/or additions to the invention can be made without departing from the basic nature of the invention, These modifications and/or additions are therefore considered to fall within the scope of the invention. 2014-12+1,CAUser\Sharlene\Documents\SPECFICATIONS\briner.innpat.wpd,3
