Abstract

A decorative composite full body porcelain/ glazed ceramic tile is described. The decorative composite tile includes a combination of flat and embossed or relief pattern surface tiles elements. The correct combination of these determines both size and surfaces required for each tile element. Editorial Note 2014100209 There are only 4 pages of description AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION Invention Title: A composite tile and its application The Invention is described in the following statement: A COMPOSITE TILE AND ITS APPLICATION Field of the invention [001] The present invention relates to a composite full body porcelain tile or glazed ceramic tile for decorative use which is mounted to a wall or floor by adhesive and which provides beside novelty, a new aesthetical concepts in the industry. Background of the invention [002] Currently in the market, only glazed ceramic tiles having an embossed or relief surface have been used in many ways in combination with either ceramic or porcelain regular tiles. Although this commercially and domestically widespread, a combination of these as a composite tile and in particular in embossed or relief full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile and flat full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile, preferably of matching colour, has never been offered in market. [003] There are different ways to combine these two different surfaces to form a composite tile. However, there are limitations to the individual tile elements and methods of mixing as too much of one might over-power the other and vice-versa. [004] Aesthetically, a mixing limitation applies to these tile elements in both size and pattern. [005] The use of correctly located overhead lighting, will also introduce alternating or irregular 3D visual effects on these installations, not seen before. [006] The present invention seeks to provide a new composite full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile. Summary of the invention [007] In accordance with a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a composite tile including: a full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile element having a flat upper face; a full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile element having an embossed or relief pattern upper face; [008] The surface of the flat upper face of the tile element could be flat or slightly textured, ribbed or hatched [009]The surface of the embossed or relief upper face of the tile element could be bumpy, bumpy and smooth or slightly textured. [010] In accordance with a second aspect of the present invention the embossed or relief upper face of the tile element could represent decorative abstract, geometrical, linear and circular or foliage patterns. [011] The embossed or relief upper face of the tile element will strongly show a third dimension. [012] The decorative pattern of each embossed or relief patterned tile element can be formed from a larger pattern or have its own individual or singular pattern. [013] In accordance with a third aspect of the present invention the determination of each tile element size can be abstract or be driven by the specific embossed or relief pattern selected. [014] Additionally, the specific embossed or relief pattern selected will also affect the ratio of flat to emboss or relief surfaces. [015] In accordance with a fourth aspect of the present invention the colour of each tile component is preferably of matching colours. [016] In accordance with a fifth aspect of the present invention the composite tile will consists of a plurality of tile elements or components bonded to a backing material as to provide a composite tile assembly.
Brief Description of the drawings [001] The invention will now be further explained and illustrated by reference to the accompanying pictures in which: [002] Figure 1 and Figure 2 are photos showing a plan view of two composite tile in accordance with one preferred embodiment of the present invention; [003] Figure 3 is a photo showing the assembly of the composite tile by means of a mesh backing. Detailed description of optional embodiments [004] Referring to the Figures there is shown two composite tiles generally indicated as 3, the tile being in accordance with preferred embodiments of the present invention. [005] There is shown, with particular reference to Figure 1 and Figure 2, the upper face of 2 different composite tiles 3 including tile elements 4 comprising a flat face tile 1 and an embossed or relief pattern face tile 2. [006] Referring to another embodiment, shown in Figure 3, the bottom face of a composite tile 3 showing the backing mesh 5 holding the tile elements 4.

Claims (6)

1. A composite tile including: a full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile element having a flat upper face; a full body porcelain/glazed ceramic tile element having an embossed or relief pattern upper face;
2. The composite tile in accordance with claim 1 further including a plurality of tile elements or components bonded to a backing material as to provide a composite tile assembly.
3. The composite tile in accordance with claim 1 or 2 wherein the ratio of flat to tridimensional pattern tiles introduces sporadic 3D visual effects on these installations.
4. The composite tile in accordance with any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the embossed or relief pattern tile element can be formed from a larger pattern or have its own individual or singular pattern.
5. The composite tile in accordance with any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the size of each individual tile element can be abstract or be driven by the specific embossed or relief pattern selected.
6. The composite tile in accordance with any one of claims 1 to 5 whereas the colour of each individual tile element is preferably of identical colour.
