Abstract
Abstract: [0001] Disclosed is a surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) designed to support the installation of an LED panel luminaire (1). In one form, the surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) has been designed to receive an LED panel light (1) to be installed from below the ceiling. The dimensions of the surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) are such that it will align with the metric dimensions of an LED panel light (1). The dimensions of any portion of the surface semi-flush mounting frame are such that it will support the installation of a range of LED panel lights (1) in metric specification. In one form, the surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) is an LED panel surface semi-flush mounting frame (4). f 3: . .... ------
Description
1 Technical Field: [0002] The present invention relates to a mounting frame to support the surface installation of a LED panel. Background: [0003] LED panel lights that are in use are installed in a variety of ceiling types, with the light source facing down and into the location covered by the ceiling. [0004] LED panel lights have become popular in recent times; however they face certain limitations of installation due to certain structural elements. One such disadvantage is where there is restricted access to ceiling space, for example, concrete slab construction, which prohibits the recessed installation of the LED panel light. [0005] Furthermore, in certain circumstances, the LED panel light requires the use of a low-profile mounting frame to enable use in areas where there is restricted projection requirements. In these circumstances of restricted installation requirements, there can be significant time, difficulty and complexity to effectively install the LED Panel light. This may also lead to increased cost and time for installation and potentially preclude their use in certain applications. Summary: [0006] According to one aspect, there is provided a housing for an LED panel light for the installation on a ceiling via a low profile mounting fixture for receiving of the LED panel light. [0007] The fixture comprising a sheet metal housing having two components; a fixed mounting support and a movable locking gate 2 [0008] In one embodiment, the fixed frame is of a size to suit a 1200mm x 300mm LED panel light. [0009] Similar embodiments are in effect for the following LED panel light sizes: 1200mm x 600mm 600mm x 600mm 600mm x 300mm and; 300mm x 300mm [0010] In one embodiment, the depth of the frame is less than 15mm. [0011] In one embodiment, the movement of the gate is less than 25mm. [0012] According to one aspect, there is provided a mounting frame for installation whereas the fixed mounting support comprises a formed sheet metal structure which approximates the size of the LED panel light and has the following structural components: An angled support face to guide and support the LED panel light Keyhole mounting slots spaced at 450mm to accommodate fixing to structural members An interlocking gate arm assembly to facilitate the insertion of the LED panel light A recessed interlocking gate mechanism that allows the free movement of the movable locking gate within the fixed mounting support to enable the capture and support of the LED panel light "Snap-fit" locking pins to secure the moveable locking gate within the body of the fixed mounting support.
3 Drawings: The various aspects will now be described in detail with reference to the following figures in which: Figure 1 - Shows a typical application of LED panel light Figure 2 - Shows a typical representation of the fixed mounting support and mounting arm Figure 3 - An angled support face to guide and support the LED panel light Figure 4 - Keyhole mounting slots spaced at 450mm to accommodate fixing to structural members Figure 5 - An interlocking gate arm assembly to facilitate the insertion of the LED panel light Figures 6A & 6B - show the interlocking gate arm mechanism that allows the free movement of the movable locking gate within the fixed mounting support to enable the capture and support of the LED panel light Figures 7A & 7B - Provide facility to use "snap-fit" locking pins to secure the moveable locking gate within the body of the fixed mounting support Figures 8A to 8D - First steps of installing the LED panel light into the surface semi flush mounting frame Figures 9A & 9B - Demonstrates the movement of the interlocking gate arm Figures 1 CA & 1 OB - shows how the movable locking gate & "snap-fit" locking pins secure the LED panel within the body of the fixed mounting support Figures 11 A to 11D - Dimensional results of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame in various embodiments 4 Detailed Description: Figure 1 shows a typical application of a LED panel light (1) into a ceiling (2) to illuminate the room space (3). The surface semi flush mounting frame (4) allows for installation whilst maintaining minimum projection into the illuminated space. Figure 2 shows the surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) in a typical application highlighting each of the main components - fixed mounting support (11); movable locking gate (12). Figure 3 shows a side perspective view of the frame (4) in relation to the LED panel light (1). In this view there can be seen an angled face (5) which self-locates the panel (1) and the support edge (6) the purpose of which retains the LED panel light (1) in position. Figure 4 shows a rear perspective of the keyhole mounting slots (7) and their alignment to typical structural members (8), the purpose of which is to facilitate the support of the frame (4) as part of the installation and LED panel light (1) to minimise loading on the ceiling surface (9). Figure 5 shows a front perspective of the interlocking gate mechanism (10) highlighting key components - interlocking gate arm (14); interlocking gate arm tab (15). Also highlighted are fixed mounting support (11) & movable locking gate (12). Figures 6A & 6B shows a front perspective indicating the operation of the interlocking gate mechanism (10) in relation to the fixed mounting support (11). Figures 7A & 7B shows a side perspective indicating the installation and operation of the "snap-fit" locking pins (13) retaining the movable locking gate (12) within the body of the fixed mounting support (11). Figure 8A to 8D shows a pictorial representation of the introduction of the LED panel light (1) into the surface semi-flush mounting frame (4). It further indicates the orientation and final position characteristics of the LED panel light (1) within the fixed mounting support (11).
5 Figures 9A & 9B shows a pictorial representation of the interlocking gate arm (14) within the fixed mounting support (11) & how the interlocking gate arm tab (15) prevents the unintended removal of the movable locking gate (12). Figures 1 CA & 1 OB shows how the LED panel (1) is secured within the fixed mounting support (11) & the interlocking gate arm (12) of the semi flush mounting frame (4) by the "snap-fit" locking pin (13) during installation. Figure 11 A shows the overall dimension details of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) with 1195mm x 295mm LED panel light (1). Figure 11 B shows the overall dimension details of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) with 1195mm x 595mm LED panel light (1). Figure 11 C shows the overall dimension details of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) with 595mm x 595mm LED panel light (1). Figure 11 D shows the overall dimension details of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) with 595 x 295 LED panel light (1). Figure 11 E shows the overall dimension details of the installed surface semi-flush mounting frame (4) with 295mm x 295mm LED panel light (1).
