Abstract

Abstract 5 Protective helmet with pivotable visor A protective helmet with a pivotable visor is to be improved in that the distance to the face of the helmet wearer can be changed in a simple manner. To achieve this 10 object, adapters (10) are provided at each of the end sections (4, 5) of visor disk (3), where said adapters can be attached to the end sections (4, 5) in at least two preferential positions, which results in a change of distance between the visor disk (3) and the face of the 15 helmet wearer (9). The adapter (10) is also part of a pivoting connection between visor disk (3) and the protective helmet. (Figure 1) 10 - -- Figure 1 Figure 2

Description

Pool Section 29 Regulation 3.2(2) AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Application Number: Lodged: Invention Title: Protective helmet with pivotable visor The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: P111ABAU/0610 1 Protective helmet with pivotable visor 5 The invention concerns a protective helmet with a pivotable visor. Protective helmets with pivotable visors are known, where the visors can be moved into the desired position via 10 pivot points that are attached to the helmet or to the lining. From GB 2 014 432 A a protective helmet with visor is known, in which the visor is not only pivotable but can 15 also be moved away from the helmet. The mechanism used to achieve this is complex and requires many individual components. It is the object of the invention to improve a protective 20 helmet of the kind described above in such a way that the distance between the visor and the face of the wearer of the helmet can be changed easily. This object is met by the characteristics of claim 1. 25 Advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention become apparent from the sub-claims. The advantage of the solution according to the invention 30 lies in the fact that the visor disk is provided with two pivot points that are offset a certain distance from each other. Said pivot points are created through an adaptor that can be attached to the end sections of the visor 2 disk in two different preference positions. The preference positions are located such that it is possible to set the visor in two different distances with respect to the helmet-wearer's face. 5 If a fixed reference point of the adapter is considered around which the visor disk can pivot, a longitudinal offset x results for said reference point if the adapter is fixed in the first preferential position and is then 10 changed by clipping it into the second preferential position. The adapter can be clipped into different hole patterns at the end sections of the visor disk, in which every preferential position has an individual hole pattern assigned and where the adapter can be clipped 15 into every hole pattern. The pivoting axis extends through the adapter. Depending upon in which orientation the adapter is mounted, different distances result between the visor and the face 20 of the helmet wearer so that an adaptation to different face characteristics is achievable. Two pairs of holes are provided as hole patterns in the end sections, which consist of two bore holes that are disposed at a fixed position to each other. The adapter features pins that 25 are designed to correspond with said boreholes, and which can be snapped into said bore holes. The hole pairs provide two preferential positions for the attachment of the adapter at the end sections of the visor disk. The hole pairs are disposed in the end sections in such a way 30 that a first virtual line connecting the bore holes of the first hole pair, and a second virtual line connecting the bore holes of the second hole pair are oriented to 3 each other within an angular range a of between 80 degrees and 110 degrees. The scope of protection expressly includes means with the same effect that make it possible to attach an adapter in 5 at least two different preferential positions to the end sections of a visor disk. The term "hole pair" is to be understood as a hole pattern to which an adapter can be attached. A screw connection is also possible as an alternative to a snap-on connection. The preferential 10 positions are chosen such that varying distances between visor disk and the face of the helmet-wearer can be achieved. The pivoting connection between visor disk and the 15 protective helmet is designed such that the adapters are pivotally connected with both end sections to the protective helmet or a lining of the protective helmet. To achieve this the adapters are provided with a bore hole at a predetermined position, for example in the 20 vicinity of a pin, and the axle is fitted through said bore hole. The axle is advantageously connected to a swivel arm that operates the visor disk. One exemplary embodiment of the device according to the 25 invention is shown in the drawing and is explained in more detail below. Shown are in: Fig. 1 a lining of a protective helmet with a 30 pivotable visor; Fig. 2 a partial view of a first end section of a visor disk; 4 Fig. 3 an enlarged representation of the first end section; 5 Fig. 4 a side view of the adapter; Fig. 5 a side view of the swivel arm. Fig. 1 depicts a schematic representation of a protective 10 helmet 1 with lining 2 and a visor disk 3 that is attached to lining 2. Said visor disk 3 comprises a first end section 4 and a second end section 5, which are pivotably attached to lining 2, and where a lever arm 6 is provided for operating the visor disk 3. The front of 15 visor disk 3 features a recess 7 in the vicinity of the nose 8 of the wearer of helmet 9, who is not depicted in detail. For reasons of clarity the pivoting connection of visor disk 3 is only depicted on the first end section 4. 20 Fig. 2 shows a partial view of the first end section 4 with swivel arm 6 and an adapter 10, which can be attached to first end section 4 in two positions. A corresponding adapter 10 is also provided on the second end section 5, but this is not depicted in detail in the 25 drawings. End sections 4, 5 are both provided with a first hole pair 11 and a second hole pair 12. Adapter 10 is shown on the left side of Fig. 2 in the second hole pair 12, whereas on the right side of Fig. 2 it is shown repositioned into the first hole pair 11. The 30 repositioning of adapter 10 from the second hole pair 12 to the first hole pair 11 is depicted on the right side of Fig. 2 through arrows 13.
5 Fig. 3 shows an enlarged representation of the first end section 4 of visor disk 3 with the first hole pair 11, the second hole pair 12 and the adapter 10, which is snapped into the first hole pair. As reference point the 5 adapter 10 comprises a bore hole 14, which serves as a pivoting axis 15 (Fig. 1) of visor disk 3 with respect to lining 2. Depending on whether the adapter 10 is snapped into the first hole pair 11 or the second hole pair 12, a different distance between visor disk 3 and the face of 10 the helmet wearer 9 is achieved. Fig. 3 schematically depicts the distance x that results from the longitudinal distance between the reference points of the two different attachment options of adapter 10. When projecting an imaginary line 19 through the bore hole 15 centres of the first hole pair 11 and a corresponding line 19 through the second hole pair 12, the lines 19 define an angle a of approximately 80 degrees. Fig. 4 depicts a side elevation of adapter 10. A first 20 pin 16 with diameter dl and, at a certain distance from it, a second pin 17 with diameter d2 are disposed on adapter 10 on the side facing the visor disk 3. The bore hole 14 is located at the centre of second pin 17. The pins 16, 17 have different diameters dl and d2, where d2 25 is larger than dl. This ensures that adapter 10 can be attached to end sections 4, 5 in only two preferential positions. The hole pairs 11, 12 are made to correspond with pins 16, 17 of adapter 10. 30 Fig. 5 shows a side elevation of lever arm 6. On the side that faces adapter 10 the lever arm features an axle 18 that is pushed through bore hole 14 of adapter 10 and is attached to lining 2. Both end sections 4, 5 of the visor 6 disk 3 are provided with corresponding axles 18, which makes the axles 18 the pivoting axis 15 of the visor disk 3 with respect to lining 2. 5 Comprises/comprising and grammatical variations thereof when used in this specification are to be taken to specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps or components or groups thereof, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, 10 components or groups thereof.
