Abstract

Patent Application Number 2012100174 This invention relates to the conversion of waste material to energy and bio-fertiliser. 1. The choice of waste material is defined as waste biomass. The composition of this mix is important for achieving the desired characteristics of the biofertiliser product in terms of nutrient value and texture. 2. The waste biomass is mechanically pre-treated prior to anaerobic digestion. 3. Heated water is used for mixing with the waste material for anaerobic digestion. 4. The anaerobic digestion process produces a sludge which can be used as a "Bio-Fertiliser". 5. The anaerobic digestion process also produces methane gas, which is collected, compressed, and stored for energy. 6. The combustion of methane gas produces energy to run the invention and generate electricity. 7. The heat exchanger can use the energy from the combustion of the methane gas to pre-heat the feed water. The heated water is then utilised by the anaerobic digester and/or other processes within the invention. The heat exchanger also emits water vapour and carbon dioxide into the environment. 8. The electricity generated is used to power the invention and can be sold. 1q 0 tr) itO o W o OD N\ (D C z 0 ) c uC <w cx 0 q > £ o Lo Mn o~ U.o ww z M c < z C' U) c)cJ u Lu c < c oL z z

Description

Australian Patents Act 1990 PATENT REQUEST: Final Specification INVENTION TITLE: Sustainable Waste Management Applicants: Ram Prasad Sharma Sally Luci Catherine McKinnon Provisional Patent Application No: 2011900554 THE INVENTION IS DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT: This invention relates to the conversion of waste material to energy and bio-fertiliser. The various individual technologies, used as an integrated part of this invention, have been established for many years. Some combinations of these individual technologies have been used previously to convert waste to energy or bio-fertiliser. The use of these technologies in various combinations to date, have yielded some success with the following key limitations: A. Low conversion rate of waste to energy or bio-fertiliser. B. Low efficiency of the conversion process. C. Production of product and/or by-products, which contain components toxic to human health and/or the environment. D. Do not provide a total solution that is sustainable in terms of environmental, economic, social and cultural values.

Claims (8)

1. The choice of waste material is defined as waste biomass. The composition of this mix is important for achieving the desired characteristics of the bio fertiliser product in terms of nutrient value and texture.
This invention utilises technologies, which when used individually on their own, may not provide the desired sustainable solution for conversion of waste to energy and bio-fertiliser. However, when these technologies are used in an integrated way as defined in this invention, the result provides a sustainable process for the conversion of waste to electricity and bio-fertiliser. A schematic outline of the invention is attached to this claim. Dated this 18 th day of February 2012. Ram Prasad Sharma Sally Luci Catherine McKinnon
