Abstract
Abstract The present invention provides a method of growing mushrooms efficiently and environmentally friendly using spent coffee grinds as a substrate.
Description
1 Description A new method of growing mushrooms by using spent coffee grinds. It is not currently being done in Australia at all. The coffee grinds which normally are thrown out and goes to landfill, are retived before this and used as a substrate to grow mushrooms. Coffee grinds being used as a subsrate to grow mushrooms has not been done in Asutarlia before. It is a much more environmentally friendly way of obtaining a substrate medium, as when the mushrooms have finished growing , the previously toxic landfill is now an animal feed or high quality garden compost. It is a vast difference from the other subsrate mediums being used presently. The mushrooms grown in bags filled with the coffee substrate mixed with the mushroom mycliem. While this is not a new process, the substrate being used is new to Australia. It is a new material being introduced to the process, to give a quicker growing time without the use of fertilisers or chemicals, a more efficent and environmentally friendly growing substrate. Hence the term ecomushrooms.
