Description

Editorial Note 2011100931 There are 4 pages of Description FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to a mounting platform for the FG series Ford and FPV vehicles which will allow the mounting of aftermarket automotive gauges and other accessories in a convenient location without damaging or degrading the vehicles interior with quick easy installation addressing safety concerns. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION While vehicles come standard with certain components it is appreciated that many after market gauges and accessories are not available on ford/fpv fg series cars. This has created the requirement for after-market gauges to be used to monitor, maintain the integrity of the cars functioning and also warn of problems. The gauges would need a suitable mounting holder mount so they can be fitted to a car... FPV vehicles have engine start button panel. However these do not house after market gauges nor are made for additional accessories therefore limiting choice. Indeed defacing these expensive panels is not preferable. Prior art also does not allow for mounting of other accessories but limited to gauges only. Existing after market gauge holders require screws while others require complicated assembly and the drilling into the vehicles for clips to be installed for fastening. This complicates installation and removal to make it a more time consuming costly process. The need to use screw and drill existing dash for fitment of existing mounts causes damage to the original paneling in the car. The other drawback is that existing holders/mounts tend to be mounted in the field of view of the driver and obstruct the drivers view of the road especially at night time where the gauge lighting can interfere more with the drivers sight and hence a safety. Also they tend to protrude out of the normal lines of the cars trim and can potentially create a safety hazard with impact to drivers/passengers in the event of an accident. Two way radios, switches, phone cradles and other accessories have limited installation positions and again potentially damaging trims in the vehicles interior. Prior art also is placed in a position where wiring for after market gauges or accessories are not easily accessible for electrical installation. In some cases it involves removing major dash components to achieve this. Prior art also only provides mounting for one two or three gauges but is predetermined by how many mounting positions are available from manufacturer Removal of prior art requires the removal of clips screws and fasteners which hinder a quick removal when required. Prior art also caused hindrance to mechanical gauge connection for example vacuum or turbo hose run to these for turbo boost or vacuum gauges was prone to bending due to the limited space provided by these. Prior art also tends to be angled in such a way as to allow aftermarket gauges to be clearly viewed by driver only but not clearly viewed by passenger. The shortfall is that a passenger cannot readily assist by monitoring information clearly and therefore placing the drivers attention more on the gauges in the event troubleshooting instead of concentrating on driving.
OBJECT OF INVENTION Accordingly it is an object of the present invention to provide a customizable, drillable dash console car mounting platform in a central visible location for the mounting of after-market gauges or accessories to the interior of the fg series ford fpv vehicle without the need for drilling with easy visibility, fast easy installation without screws clips or any other fasteners reducing damage to vehicle and providing clear visibility to the driver for readability within reach without obstructing the driver or his view through the windscreen minimizing safety hazards alternatively to provide the market place with an alternative to existing mounting devices. For after-market gauges, two way radios and other dash mountable accessories. STATEMENT OF OBJECT The invention addresses the need for a drillable mounting platform for one two or three gauges or accessories to be mounted or installed while fitting into and integrating into the central dash radio console directly under the radio assembly of the FG series ford and fpv range of vehicles. The Gauqe and accessory dash holder mount also allows for the retro fitting of the existing starter button on fpv FG vehicles so that those who wish can also have the option to install after market gauges. The invention also relieves the limitation of prior art being limited to be an aftermarket gauge holder and or the optional accessory mount holder. Users can drill the platform to add switches small two way radios mobile phone cradles and other mountable devices. The invention does not require screws, fasteners or clips of any kind and simplifies installation to a very quick easy process. In fact it the mount can be installed in seconds by a novice. All it requires is one extended end to be slid under existing centre radio console trim then push the opposite side under the corresponding dash trim and then it is held in place by the tension of existing trim and held up by a notch at the base.. Installation is that simple. It saves alot of time and money by being such an efficient product to install from other prior art. The invention address issues of damaging a vehicles interior by avoiding screwing or drilling to factory trim in its own mounting not requiring screws or drilling. Furthermore by providing an alternative mounting position for gauges and accessories eliminating car interior damage. Another concern addressed by invention is that it minimizes protrusions therefore direct impact to driver by avoiding top of dashboard below windscreen and is placed in such a position where it is recessed into the dash in a central location replacing the factory tissue box. This reduces any hazardous protrusions on prior art. The danger is therefore minimized due to this. In addition the present invention is not in the line of sight of the driver due to its positioning therefore the hindrance to driver visibility obstruction by prior art is also addressed. The lower mounting does not interfere with the driver's ability to assess the road conditions and also eliminates the safety hazard of night time driving by lights from gauges being projected directly into driver's eyes causing tiredness and confusion. The positioning of the invention provides easy quick access for wiring and running wires as there is sufficient room and access to run wires directly to their connections. There is ample room to run cabling without the need to remove the radio assembly Instead it has easy access via existing ford cavities and wires.
The invention requires no tools to remove therefore making removal a very easy process. The flex of the material allows the extended sides to slide out in seconds and therefore allow the removal of the whole mount. The mount alleviates prior arts limitation in that it is customizable to mount one, two or three gauges by drilling holes therefore if the public wishes to add a gauge they can do so without the need for purchasing a dedicated holder to suit therefore minimizing cost. The inventions position also allows room for the unobstructed routing of hoses, connections or required piping to mechanical gauges such as but not limited to vacuum hose for boost or vacuum gauges oil feed lines for oil pressure gauges and associated physical connections as just some illustrative examples. The invention allows viewing by passenger and driver so that in high speed and troubleshooting the gauge information can be monitored more safely and longer periods by passenger allowing driver to concentrate on driving in situations when it's necessary to spend more time observing gauges. This provides more safety in that particular situation. The exisiting tissue box is to be removed on most cars to allow for fitment, Brief description of drawings Figure 1 is a view of the invention installed in place highlighted by shading within the console dash Figure 2 is a side profile view of the invention front and back is clearly labeled. Figure 3 shows the invention standalone front view with its innovative sides and notch angle. Detailed description of invention Technical contents and detailed description of present invention with reference to accompanying diagrams will be explained. Figure 3 shows the invention in plain view with the provision for the optional two gauge holder as an example. It includes a top 4, base 3 with extended sides 1 at each end and an angled notch 3. Top 4 is shaped to fit in line against the above radio fascia when it is mounted as illustrated in figure 1 where it appears in the car dash sketch to retain the factory appearance and function to position the invention in place. The extended sides are angled to the factory dash trim angle under which the invention sits to provide easy unobstructed installation as too does the angled notch 2 to sit perfectly on top of internal trims under the external side radio dash console trim as seen in figure 1. The base3 from a frontal position is flat as shown in figure2 and 1 but the side view in figure 2 shows the angled base extending backwards... The invention can be made from a number of plastics such as acrylic, polycarbonate, pvc for example. It may also be made from metal wood and other appropriate materials for fabrication. Base 3 has an angle protruding back towards the rear as shown in figure 2 and figure 3 also in the automotive installed position. This serves the function to protect hands from sharp edges thereby avoiding injury. It also serves to provide more rigidity and strength of the invention. Another feature is that does not obstruct access to cars power supply and audio input which resides underneath. Figure 2 is the side passenger view where B is the back sitting inside the mounting position and F which faces the front towards view. The extended sides 1 at each end of the invention as an innovative step with angled notch 2 because they are what hold the invention in place depicted in figure 1 installed view and figure 3 The extended sides 1 with angled notch 2 are what allow the invention to slide under the existing dash trim as there is sufficient space to do so refer to figure 1. Essentially there is a slot in the factory dash allowing the passengers extended side to be slid under being inserted then the drivers extended side 1 is placed in position while slight flex of its material allows it to snap into the mounted position holding the mount firmly into place. The angled notch 2 in the invention then stops the invention from sliding down and supports the required depth of the extended sides to be held in place as shown in figure 1. The angled notch 2 is also required so the inventions base 3 can fit as it extends backwards. The shaded area is a depiction of the invention showing the extended sides 1 angled notch 2 underneath the factory radio dash console trim which firmly holds it into place. The invention itself can be customized by drilling screwing to mount up to 1 2 or 3 after-market gauges up to approximate 60 mm in diameter and or other installable devices in any configuration desired. In the case of FG fpv vehicles the existing started button can be retrofitted and up to two gauges or choice of other installable devices.
