Abstract

-1 Abstract A conveyor assembly suitable for receiving crop residue from a harvesting machine and deposing the crop residue in a crop residue receptacle is disclosed. The conveyor 5 assembly comprises a long conveyor frame configured to be inclined so as to deposit material in a receptacle and a short conveyor frame. Each conveyer frame comprises a respective conveyor belt configured to rotate around rollers at the end of each frame. The short conveyor frame is pivotable from a working position to a stowed position. In the working position material landing on the short conveyor belt is transferred to the long 10 conveyor belt and in the stowed position the short conveyor belt has been rotated upward and rearward in an arc to be semi-inverted on a lower end of the longer conveyor belt.

Description

-1 Description A Conveyor Assembly 5 The present invention relates to a conveyor assembly suitable for transferring material, such as crop reside from a broad-acre harvesting machine, and transferring it into a receptacle, such as of a towed crop residue bin. Summary of the Invention 10 According to the presenting invention there is a conveyor assembly suitable for receiving material and deposing the material in a receptacle, said conveyor comprising: a long conveyor frame configured to be inclined so as to deposing the material in the receptacle and a short conveyor frame, each conveyer frame comprising a respective conveyor belt configured to rotate around rollers at the end of each frame, wherein the short conveyor 15 frame is pivotable from a working position to a stowed position, wherein in the working position material landing on the short conveyor belt is transferred to the long conveyor belt, wherein in the stowed position the short conveyor belt has been rotated upward and rearward in an arc to be semi-inverted on a lower end of the longer conveyor belt. 20 Preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying Figures, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of a conveyor assembly in a working position and Figure 2 is a perspective view of the conveyor assembly of Figure 1 in a stowed position. 25 The conveyor assembly comprisestwo conveyor frames (Conveyor One and Conveyor Two). Conveyor One is approximately six metres in length and is mounted on a chassis in such a manner as to transport crop residue material (upward at an angle of about 30 degrees from horizontal) from the crop residue exit point of a combine harvester into a suitable towed receptacle. 30 The conveyor frames each carry a conveyor belt. In an embodiment the conveyor belt may be a commercially available agricultural draper type conveyor belt. The conveyor belt may be a single guided draper belt, a double sided draper belt or a conveyor belt other than an agricultural type conveyor belt. 35 Conveyor One has two side frames with intermediately spaced cross members forming a -2 structure on which suitable rollers are mounted at each end. One roller on each conveyor is powered and which motivates the conveyor belt, the other is an idler only. Conveyor Two is shorter and constructed in a similar manner, for example, approximately 5 1.5 metres in length, mounted to Conveyor One at a pivot point at each side on the lower front end of Conveyor One. In an embodiment Conveyor Two is supported relative to Conveyor One by four support points. The pivot mentioned above allows Conveyor Two to be manually rotated upward and 10 rearward in an arc from its' working position to rest semi inverted on the lower end of Conveyor One. The short frame has two longitudinal arms, the outer ends of which form the pivot point. Conveyor Two is powered in the same manner as Conveyor One, being by hydraulic motor 15 powered by the towing machine's on board hydraulic system. Height adjustment is provided for both conveyors by means of threaded adjusting rods on both sides of the conveyor frames and alternative holes in the Conveyor Two pivot arms matching a mounting plate each side of Conveyor One. 20 The conveyer of the present invention achieves a method of attaching and aligning a conveyor belt frame onto an agricultural harvesting machine so that it can transfer crop residue from the exit area of the harvesting machine into a towed residue bin. 25 The short conveyor frame with belt attached can be rotated in a time efficient manner from the working position to a position suitable for transport. The Two Position Conveyor may be operated on a machine other than a crop residue 30 collection receptacle. The Two Position Conveyor rollers use bearings which are able to be lubricated in the field by the operator.

Claims (5)

1. A conveyor assembly suitable for receiving material and deposing the material in a receptacle, said conveyor comprising: a long conveyor frame configured to be inclined so 5 as to deposing the material in the receptacle and a short conveyor frame, each conveyer frame comprising a respective conveyor belt configured to rotate around rollers at the end of each frame, wherein the short conveyor frame is pivotable from a working position to a stowed position, wherein in the working position material landing on the short conveyor belt is transferred to the long conveyor belt, wherein in the stowed position the short 10 conveyor belt has been rotated upward and rearward in an arc to be semi-inverted on a lower end of the longer conveyor belt.
2. A conveyor assembly according to claim 1, wherein each of the conveyor belts is a draper type conveyor belt. 15
3. A conveyor assembly according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the short conveyor frame is pivoted relative to the long conveyor frame at a first pivot point on each side set back from the lower front end of the long conveyor frame along the length of the long conveyor frame. 20
4. A conveyor assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the short frame is supported relative to the long frame by four support points, wherein two of the support points are longitudinally spaced along the short conveyor frame from the adjacent ends of the conveyors. 25
5. A conveyor assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the short frame has two longitudinal arms, the outer ends of which form the pivot point, wherein the longitudinal arms are configured to position adjacent ends of the conveyors vertically relative to each other in one configuration and longitudinally apart relative the long 30 conveyor frame in another configuration.
