Description

- 1 AUSTRALIA PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT ORIGINAL Name of Applicant/s: Adaico, S.L. Actual Inventor/s: D. Juan Manuel Zugaza Fernandez Address for Service is: SHELSTON IP 60 Margaret Street Telephone No: (02) 9777 1111 SYDNEY NSW 2000 Facsimile No. (02) 9241 4666 CCN: 3710000352 Attorney Code: SW Invention Title: CANVAS FOR CLOSING BOXES OF TRUCKS OR TRAILERS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us: File: 64977AUP00 - la CANVAS FOR CLOSING BOXES OF TRUCKS OR TRAILERS Field of the Art The present invention relates to the lateral closing of the boxes of trucks or 5 trailers by means of foldable canvases, proposing a canvas distinguished with structural features making it advantageous for that function. State of the Art The arrangement of foldable canvases in loading boxes of trucks or trailers to determine a protection and safety closing is known, impermeable canvases being used 10 for such purpose which are incorporated in sliding securing assembly, by means of rolling carriages on an upper guide and a lower guide fixed in the structure of the loading box of application. In that arrangement, the closing canvases can be unfolded in an extended closing position, and withdrawn in a folded opening position, being withdrawn in the 15 latter position by means of a bellows folding. Said canvases are usually made of plastic to ensure impermeability, having a very limited resistance to ripping, therefore, due to the weight of the canvas itself and as a result of the stresses which it must withstand, tears are common. In addition, for the correct closing position it is important that the canvas is 20 extended completely with the lowest possible stress, and for the correct opening position it is in turn important that the folding is determined uniformly with the folds towards one and the same side, preferably towards the outside, which conditions are not fulfilled in a very efficient manner with the conventional canvases used in said function. Summary of the Invention 25 According to the invention, a canvas is proposed for the indicated function of closing loading boxes, with an embodiment provided with structural features solving the mentioned drawbacks of conventional canvases of that type in a practical and effective manner. This canvas object of the invention is conventionally formed by a laminar body 30 of impermeable material, such as plastic or the like, incorporating at the upper part and at the lower part a series of carriages for the assembly of application on sliding guides. According to the invention, at least in the areas for fixing the sliding carriages, and optionally in the intermediate areas, vertical reinforcing strips formed from textile -2 material are fixed on the laminar body. A structural formation of the canvas is thus obtained which allows withstanding strains and stresses with a much greater resistance that that of conventional canvases, such that it offers more advantageous features and lasts longer in usefulness conditions. 5 In the upper edge and in the lower edge, the laminar body is determined with a folded rim, band segments being included in at least one of said rims, preferably that of the lower part, which band segments confer a tendency to the straight arrangement of the mentioned laminar body, determining the perfect stretching thereof in the unfolded position, without needing a strong pulling stress from the ends, whereas in the 10 withdrawal folding said band segments determine that the loops of the folding are perfectly uniform, all of them being inevitably formed towards the outside. Therefore, the proposed canvas has truly advantageous features in its embodiment, acquiring its own identity and a preferred character with respect to conventional canvases with its same application. 15 Description of the Drawings Figure 1 shows a perspective view according to the invention, with one half folded and the other half stretched. Figure 2 is an enlarged partial view of a folded part of the canvas. Figure 3 is an enlarged detail of an area of the upper edge of the canvas. 20 Figure 4 is a front view of an example of the canvas with reinforcing strips only in the areas for fixing the sliding carriages, the carriages of the lower part, wherein the band segments which are included in the corresponding rim are included, not having been depicted. Figure 5 is a detail of a partial area of the previous figure. 25 Detailed Description of the Invention The object of the invention relates to a canvas of those used for the lateral closing of the loading boxes of trucks or trailers, with a structural embodiment conferring an advantageous functionality for that function. The proposed canvas consists of a laminar body (1) laminar of impermeable 30 material, such as plastic or the like, incorporating in the upper edge and in the lower edge distributions of carriages (2 and 3) for the rolling incorporation on movement guides in the assembly of application of the canvas. In the areas coinciding with the fixing of the carriages (2 and 3) and, optionally, -3 in the intermediate areas, vertical reinforcing strips (4) of textile material are arranged on the laminar body (1), which strips provide a resistance which makes the mentioned laminar body (1) able to withstand with greater safety the strains of the stresses without breaking. 5 The upper and lower edges of the laminar body are formed with a folded rim (5), band segments (6) being included in at least the upper or lower rim (5), as observed in Figures 4 and 5. Thus, due to the effect of the mentioned band segments (6), the laminar body (1) tends to remain extended, such that when it is unfolded to determine the closing position 10 in the function of application on the corresponding loading box, said laminar body (1) is perfectly stretched without needing to apply strong stresses from the ends. And in addition, the band segments (6) also determined that, in the withdrawal folding for determining the opening position in the assembly of application of the canvas, the laminar body (1) is folded forming uniform loops (1.1) towards the outside, 15 which facilitates a very effective withdrawal, without the laminar body (1) experiencing harmful folds.

Claims (3)

1.- A canvas for closing loading boxes of trucks or trailers, of the type formed by a laminar body which is arranged in a sliding assembly by means of rolling carriages 5 with respect to an upper guide and a lower guide, for the movement between respective folding and extension positions, characterized in that vertical reinforcing strips formed from resistant textile material are fixed on the laminar body, whereas in at least one of the upper or lower edges there are incorporated on said laminar body band segments facilitating the extension and the formation of uniform loops in the folding. 10 2.- The canvas for closing loading boxes of trucks or trailer according to claim 1, characterized in that the vertical reinforcing strips are arranged in the areas for fixing the carriages on the laminar body and, optionally, in the intermediate areas.
3.- The canvas for closing loading boxes of trucks or trailers according to claim 1, characterized in that the band segments are included in a folded rim of the laminar 15 body.
4.- A canvas substantially as herein described with reference to any one of the embodiments of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings and/or examples.
