Description

AUSTRALIA PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT CAMPER TOP LIFTING MECHANISM FOR CAMPER TRAILER The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me: 1 This invention relates to a device for raising a camper tent and base frame above a box trailer or like device. For many recreational campers who enjoy camping and motorcycle or all 5 terrain vehicle riding, the process of combining these two activities sometimes involves the use of more than one vehicle. One to tow a conventional camper trailer, plus one to tow a motor cycle or all-terrain vehicles. The device is designed for the purpose of lifting a trailer mounted tent base frame above the transporting trailer, to facilitate the transportation of .0 recreation vehicles, such as motorcycles or all-terrain vehicles, and for easy access to storage compartments within the trailer. Previous devices involve manual lifting of the tent base frame, with gas strut and or cable winch assistance. These devices require the operator to use force when raising and lowering the base frame or for the operator to be within .s close proximity to the mechanism. These problems are overcome by the present invention which uses a scissor style mechanism to raise and lower the camper tent and base frame with a remotely operated drive system. To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the 0 accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention. In the drawings: Fig. 1 shows the application of this mechanism in the lowered position. Fig.2 shows the application of this mechanism in the raised position. Referring to Fig.2 the camper tent 2 and base frame 3 are raised from the 25 closed position on top of the trailer 13 using a winch 1 and winch cable 4 connected to the scissor mechanism of the device via a load distribution bar 5. The applied force of the winch cable 4 to the load distribution bar 5 transfers the force to the load runners 10 attached to one end of the pivot arms 14. The load runners 10 are guided by the track 11 on the track support frame 12. The 30 transfer of this force to the load runners 10 causes the mechanism to lift due 2 to the opposing forces of each pivot arm 14 and pivot points 7. In the raised position the camper tent 2 and base frame 3 are stabilized with the cross bracing tubes 8 and cross bracing locking screws 9 which are secured to the 5 track support 12 with the cross bracing brackets 6. Fig.3 shows the invention with a hydraulic cylinder 15 as the drive unit as an alternative to the winch 1 and winch cable 4.

Claims (2)

1. A camper tent lifting device comprising a scissor mechanism that is controlled by a winch and cable drive system to apply the force necessary to carry out the lifting process. 5
2. The camper tent lifting device of claim, 1 but with hydraulic cylinders as the drive system to apply the forces necessary to carry out the lifting process. JAMES STUART CARR 12 AUGUST 2010 CHRISTOPHER ANDREW CANT 12 AUGUST 2010 .0
