AUSTRALIA PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT A FIREPLACE The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me: 1 A FIREPLACE TECHNICAL FIELD 5 The present invention relates to a fireplace. The present invention has particular, although not exclusive application to outdoor fireplaces including camping fireplaces. 10 BACKGROUND The reference to any prior art in this specification is not, and should not be taken as an acknowledgement or any form of suggestion that the prior art forms part of the common general knowledge. 15 Camping provides families with the opportunity to get away from the usual routine and spend quality time together. Often, part of this ritual involves spending time talking together in the evening around a fireplace. 20 Fireplaces are commonly dug in the ground and encircled with stones to contain the fire. The creation of such a fireplace is labor intensive, which is particularly undesirable when other elements of the campsite must also be established. The fireplace must also be filled in and the stones spread when camping is concluded. 25 Undesirably, sunken pit fireplaces can be a safety hazard with campers inadvertently falling into them, particularly when they are inebriated and trip. It is an object of the present invention to provide a safer fireplace. 30 2 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a portable fireplace including: a fire container for containing a fire; a frame to which the fire container is pivotally fastened about a central axis of the fire container so that ashes in the fire container can be readily brushed or washed out during cleaning; and wheel means by which the fireplace can be wheeled around. The fireplace is more visible by virtue of being portable (and not sunken in the ground), and is therefore safer as people are less likely to trip over or fall into the fireplace. Further, the fireplace can be wheeled away when not in use to remove a tripping hazard. When taken camping, the fireplace is also advantageously more readily set up (and packed away) than known pit fireplaces. The portable fireplace may include a locking means for locking the container in both a fireplace orientation and a cleaning orientation. The container may include a drum half. The container may include a cleaning handle mounted to the drum half. The wheel means may include a pair of wheels mounted to one end of the frame. The frame may include a pair of upright resting legs located at an opposite end of the frame when compared with the wheels. The portable fireplace may further include a wheeling handle for pivotally mounting to the frame. The wheeling handle may be pivotally mounted to an opposite end of the frame than the wheels. The portable fireplace may include an accessory tray for being supported by the frame beneath the container. The portable fireplace may further include a hotplate or grille accessory for pivotally mounting to the frame so that the accessory can be pivoted into a 3 cooking orientation over the container. The portable fireplace may include a cooking locking means for locking the hotplate or grill accessory in the cooking orientation. 5 The portable fireplace may further include a rotisserie accessory for fastening to the frame so that a spit extends over the container. The portable fireplace may further include a hanger accessory upon which food to be cooked can be hung to extend over the container. The hanger 10 accessory may be rotationally mounted to the frame. The hanger accessory may include an upper hanger array and a lower hanger array, the lower hanger array able to be pivoted relative to the upper hanger array. The portable fireplace may include a grille accessory for resting in the base of 15 the container and upon which the fire can be built. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Preferred features, embodiments and variations of the invention may be 20 discerned from the following Detailed Description which provides sufficient information for those skilled in the art to perform the invention. The Detailed Description is not to be regarded as limiting the scope of the preceding Summary of the Invention in any way. The Detailed Description will make reference to a number of drawings as follows: 25 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portable fireplace fitted with accessories in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2a is an end view of the portable fireplace of Figure 1; 30 Figure 2b is a side view of Figure 2a; Figure 3a is an end view of the portable fireplace of Figure 1 fitted with a rotisserie accessory; and 4 Figure 3b is a side view of Figure 3a. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS 5 According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a portable camping fireplace 2 as shown in Figure 1. The fireplace 2 includes a fire container 4 for containing a fire, and wheel means 6 by which the container 4 can be wheeled around. The fireplace 2 is visible to campers by 10 virtue of being portable (and not sunken in the ground), and therefore campers are unlikely to stumble or fall into the fireplace 2. Further, the portable fireplace 2 can be wheeled away on wheel means 6 when not in use to remove a tripping hazard around the campsite. The fireplace 2 is also advantageously more readily set up and packed away than known pit 15 fireplaces. The fireplace 2 is described in detail below. Turning to Figure 2, the portable fireplace 2 further includes a generally box shaped frame 8 to which the container 4 can be pivotally fastened in an elevated position from the ground 10 to facilitate visibility and cleaning. The 20 portable fireplace 2 includes a locking means 12 in the form of a locking nut for locking the container 4 in both a fireplace orientation (see Fig. 2) and a cleaning orientation when the container is pivoted at least 900. The container 4 includes a forty-four gallon drum half 14 and a cleaning handle 16 mounted to the drum half 14 to facilitate pivoting of the half drum 14. 25 In use, the locking means 12 locks the container 4 in the fireplace orientation (see Fig. 2). When the fire in the container 4 has been extinguished, the locking means 12 can unlock the container 4 and the camper can pivot the container by at least 90* to the cleaning orientation where the locking means 30 12 locks the container 4 once more. In this manner, the ashes in the container 4 can be readily brushed or washed out of the container 4 during cleaning. The portable fireplace 2 further includes a hotplate or grille accessory 18 for pivotally mounting to the frame 8 so that the accessory can be pivoted into a 5 cooking orientation over the container 4 as shown in Figure 2. The portable fireplace 2 also includes a cooking locking means for locking the hotplate or grill accessory 18 in the cooking orientation. 5 The wheel means 6 includes a pair of wheels 20a, 20b mounted to one end and on either side of the frame 8. The frame 8 also includes a pair of upright resting legs 22a, 22b located at an opposite end of the frame 8 when compared with the wheels 20. 10 Turning to Figure 3, the portable fireplace 2 further includes an elongate wheeling handle 24 for pivotally mounting to the frame 8. The wheeling handle 24 extends from proximal the top of the frame 8 to a free end proximal the ground 10. The wheeling handle 24 is pivotally mounted to an opposite end of the frame 8 than the wheels 20 and can be used to wheel the fireplace 2 15 around. The portable fireplace 2 also includes a removable accessory tray 26 for being supported by the frame 8 beneath the container 4. Furthermore, the portable fireplace 2 includes a rotisserie accessory 28 for fastening to the frame 8 so 20 that a rotational spit 30 extends over the container 4. The rotisserie accessory 28 includes a pair of upright arms 32a, 32b for mounting to opposite ends of the frame 8 and the spit 30 is rotationally coupled relative to the arms. The portable fireplace 2 further includes a hanger accessory 34 upon which 25 food (e.g. skewers) to be cooked can be hung to extend over the container 4. The hanger accessory 34 is rotationally mounted to the frame 8. The hanger accessory 34 includes an upper hanger array 38 including a plurality of hooks 37 and a lower hanger array 36 including a plurality of hangers 39. The lower hanger array 36 is able to be pivoted relative to the upper hanger array. 30 Cooking implements (e.g. tongs) can also be hung on the hanger accessory 34, preferably on one of the hanger arrays 26, 38 pivoted so as to be not located over the container 4.
6 The portable fireplace 2 also includes a grille accessory (not shown) for resting in the base of the container 4 and upon which the fire can be built. Advantageously, air beneath the grille accessory facilitates oxygen to the fire and assists with combustion. 5 A person skilled in the art will appreciate that many embodiments and variations can be made without departing from the ambit of the present invention. 10 In compliance with the statute, the invention has been described in language more or less specific to structural or methodical features. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to specific features shown or described since the means herein described comprises preferred forms of putting the invention into effect. The invention is, therefore, claimed in any of 15 its forms or modifications within the proper scope of the appended claims appropriately interpreted by those skilled in the art.
