Abstract

Abstract An adhesive waterproofing flange to waterproof the void between wall linings and plumbing fixtures. The adhesive flange is made from a reinforced butyl material that can be stretched and will retain its original shape with pre determined punched holes to fit over plumbing fixtures. The flange has an adhesive surface for easy installation to wall linings. The flange is compatible to all water based membranes.

Editorial Note Description Application 2009101311 There are 3 pages of description AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT ADHESIVE WATERPROOFING FLANGE The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: Adhesive Waterproofing Flange This invention relates to the waterproofing of the void between plumbing fixtures and wall linings in internal wet areas. The plumbing fixtures being a mixer, tap and a outlet spindle pipe. Common practice for sealing the void between plumbing fixtures and wall linings is to fill the void with a silicone based sealant resulting in the sealant covering the spindle housing of the plumbing fixtures. The result being when the spindle is removed, repaired or replaced the seal is broken allowing water to travel into the wall cavity and create water damage to the structure. The Adhesive Waterproofing Flange is made from a flexible butyl reinforced cloth material which has an adhesive face on one side (this is the side that adheres to the wall lining). The flange stretches two to three millimetres when inserted over the plumbing housing then restores its form and shape to ensure a tight seal onto the plumbing housing. Because the butyl material is a waterproofed substance in its own right, it needs no other covering if left exposed but is compatible with all water based waterproofing material that is used to waterproof wall linings. The butyl material allows the flange to stretch and contract which gives the flange the advantage over other systems or common practices which do not have this capability. The makeup of the butyl material gives it a memory so when stretched it will returns back to its original size and shape without affecting the integrity of the flange. The Adhesive Waterproofing Flange is fitted over the plumbing housing and sealed onto the wall lining therefore waterproofing the void between the wall lining and the plumbing housing. The plumbing housing is a fixture and separate from the spindle this allows the spindle to be removed and/or be replaced without affecting the waterproofing flange sealing the void. Another advantage of the Adhesive Waterproofing Flange is that it eliminates the problem of poorly installed waterproofing membrane ie when the waterproofing membrane is not completely covering the void at the point where the plumbing housing protrudes through the wall lining. Inadequacies in this area would result in water escaping into the wall cavity. The installation of the flange would overcome this problem. Claims (4)

1. An adhesive waterproofing flange made from a reinforced butyl material with pre determined punched holes to fit over plumbing fixtures.
2. The adhesive waterproofing flange of claim 1 has 3 different sizes defined by their pre punched hole size which are based on an outlet pipe 19mm diameter, tape housing 38mm diameter and mixer housing 45mm diameter. Overall dimensions of all three size flanges are 100mm x 100mm square, each hole is centred in the middle of the flange.
3. The adhesive waterproofing flange in claims 1 to 2 are made from a butyl material with a reinforcing fibre imbedded to one surface and an adhesive gum on the other surface
