Description

Editorial Note for 2009100909 There are three unnumbered description pages.
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM FOR A STORAGE CONTAINER OF A KNOWN SIZE -THE SIZE BEING THAT OF WHAT IS COMMONLY KNOWN AS A JERRY CAN The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of its benefits as known to me. IMPROVED LID Travellers have for many years carried what is known as jerry cans to transport both petrol and water, and as such many four wheel drives, caravans and camper trailers have been fitted with what is commonly referred to as jerry can holders. The design of my invention is to expand the uses of these already fitted holders so they can be used to carry items other than liquids. A lid in accordance with this invention comprises either being fitted to a specially designed container of the same general size of a jerry can or being fitted to an existing jerry can with the top cut off. In January 2004, while trying to fit fire wood into an already full camper trailer, I discovered a need to be able to better utilise the available storage space the jerry can holders give you. Unable to purchase any storage containers either then or since, that are specially designed to fit the holders with removable lids, I cut the top of existing plastic containers and held them back on with straps. As time went on I added to the lids to make them more multi functional and as seen in the attached photos , some of them now have extras such as fishing rod holders, fluoro light holders, stubby holders , and a bigger access opening allowing for items such as a wine bottle to be chilled in ice and accessed via the opening. The MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM would be available in different height sizes and configurations allowing for available height space above the jerry can holder. The width and depth of the lid is defined by the size of the container and this is in turn is determined by the size of the jerry can holder that the container has to fit into.
The MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM would most likely be made out of a form of plastic as it has economical working and moulding properties, although that does not limit the scope of materials the lid may be made out of, and what this innovation patent seeks to cover. It is intended the MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM would be available in different configurations, some of these, would be a fishing lid , a general storage lid, a large opening access lid ,a lid with more than one level that would look like two lids one on top of another. The MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM is designed that on either an existing jerry can with the top cut off, or on a purpose designed can the lid would be attached , in such a way that the handle on the top of lid could carry the weight of the fully loaded can. The lid may be lockable. The lid may have a handle that is twisted to allow for a stubby holder either side of it , it may have an opening which is large_90mm plus in size to allow for a wine bottle or 12 volt shower pump to fit through. The lid may able to go on upside down by the fact that instead of going over the top to form a water seal it is shaped to slide into the top of the container , this allows it to form a funnel shape and by removing the lid you can refill container under taps without holding it up also around the camp when it is raining just put it out under the drips ., in the upside down position it would be possible with the container in esky mode ; i.e. filled with ice and drinks to have bottle of wine hanging out of the lid and ice in the lid to keep your drinks cool. The MULTI PURPOSE LID SYSTEM would include A FISHING ROD / UMBRELLA HOLDER TUBE this is a way to hold a fishing rod or umbrella , a cap with a tube built in as seen in photo 2529 , so when screwed on , the tube goes into the recess of the container , this tube is reversible by removing lid and screwing tube to second thread on the inside of hole in lid , and refitting lid . The tube is now going through the hole to form a pourer. It would have a second smaller cap on the end of this tube; the tube would step down in size, from a size to hold a fishing rod / umbrella, to a size that pours nice. Possibly this tube would not be square on the inside if possible, so later optional extras could be added that slide into the square h' tube: i.e. work lights etc , the outside of the tube would need to be round so it is not likely to get jammed on something in the container .The tube could also hold a standard 12 volt work light with its lead end poked into it . When screwed into the top of lid in the fishing rod holder position it has a thread on top of it so you can screw the standard cap back on , to keep the dust out on the pourer . That way the fishing rod holder tube can stay on and so can the standard cap.

Claims (5)

1. A modular multipurpose lid system designed to fit a container that has commonly accepted dimensions, these container dimensions are what would be commonly referred to, as the size required to fit into a jerry can holder. In simple terms a series of multipurpose and modular lids designed to fit the size of the top of a jerry can.
2. A modular multipurpose lid system that would either be able to be removed completely, hinged open or fitted with a large enough opening either in the top or the side to allow access to the container of a size referred to in claim .1
3. A modular multipurpose lid system as described in claim .2 could by cost and design benefit be built into a specially designed container of a size as described in claim.1.
4. A modular multipurpose lid system would have several variations either built in or available as options , and not limited to, a fishing rod holder lid, a stubby holder lid, a height extension lid with no floor, a height extension lid with a floor, a flat lid for maximum storage, and a general storage lid .By the use of modular design these lids could attach on top of one another if put on in the right sequence.
5. A modular multipurpose lid system as described in claims .1 through to .4 and show as a proto type in attached photos. Gary Roberson 0418441392 5th May 2009
