Description
Editorial Note Description Application 2009100886 There are 3 pages of Description Australia Patents Act 1990 Complete Specification Innovation Patent IP Air.,, o 4 SEP 2009 RECEl DB Can Claw The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of it's performance known to me.
DB Can Claw This invention relates to improvements in devices used for the installation of passive support known in the underground coal industry as cans. Whilst other devices have been adapted to meet these needs from other job applications i.e. clamps used in the paper industry, this device has been invented specifically for the task of installing passive support in the underground coal mining industry whilst attached to underground loaders and using the loaders hydraulics The device has been made much stronger with the use of heavier duty steel plate in the manufacture. A heavy duty slewing ring and specially manufactured drive sprocket have been used in the rotation phase of the device. The hydraulic rams have been specifically designed with inbuilt load locks. The use of a hydraulic drive motor with an inbuilt brake has also been used in the manufacture as well as a specifically designed hydraulic drive manifold which can switch the device between the use of the hydraulic rams in grab mode to the rotation mode where the cans which range in dimension from 600mm diameter x 1900mm length to 915mm diameter x 5000mm length can be picked up horizontally and rotated to the vertical where they can then be positioned with the loader. In the past the devices that have been used or adapted for this application have been found to be not robust enough for the job in both manufacture and hydraulics where we have overcome this with our use of heavier material in manufacture, a better method of rotation and heavier duty hydraulics with inbuilt load locks in the rams and hydraulic brake in the rotation drive motor and use of a sprocket and chain rotation mode instead of gear driven. Claims (5)
1. A passive support placement device comprising of hydraulic operating jaws in grab mode, slew ring, sprocket and chain driven rotation mode with use of a specially designed hydraulic drive manifold and jaws fitted with hydraulic rams incorporating inbuilt load locks so that the support pillars can be moved from horizontal to vertical safely.
2. The DB Claw device of claim 1 where the jaws include teeth to assist in gripping of the passive support pillar.
3. The DB Claw device of claim 1 where a paddle with teeth has been added to the upper jaws to assist in gripping different diameters of passive support pillars.
4. The DB Claw device of claim 1 where a plate has been fitted to the slewing ring to prevent full 360 degree rotation so that upper jaws are rotated back to the upper position for grab mode as bottom jaws are fixed and do not have rams fitted.
5. A passive support positioning device substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing. Maling Ruhi 15 th February,2010
