Conventionally, a corrugated steel tank has a round or oval shaped shell assembled from pre 10 formed corrugated steel sheets joined together with externally applied fasteners. A sheet metal base and a top (optional) are normally fitted in place to complete the tank structure. The girth, vertical and horizontal lap joints and points where the fasteners are pierced through the corrugated steel shell, are sealed internally with a suitable compound (e.g. silicone polymer) to provide a leak proof structure. This jointing process is relatively time consuming and can result 15 in problems associated with leaking at the vertical lap joint where holes are pierced into the tank body shell by the fasteners and, in the case of oval shaped tanks, bulging of the tank shell when the tank is filled with fluid. This application proposes sealed structural members fixed to the inside of the tank body shell 20 at locations where the vertical lap joints are fastened together to assist joint fastening and to provide internal structural reinforcement. In addition, the sealed structural members can also be fixed internally in positions remote from the vertical lap joints for the purpose of structural reinforcement only.
