Description

EDITORIAL NOTE There is one page of description.
Confirmed with Andrew Spelling at EcoClassic Group Pty Ltd.
Invention Title An insect screen and fastening system that suits any outward opening window where the sash abuts O the sash stop so the sash fits within a rebate formed by the sash and the frame. There are no fixings c-i or modifications required to the window. The screen sits flush within the rebate frame and uses sprung pistons to hold the frame firm to avoid rattling in wind.
The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing known to me: Insect screens in outward opening windows need to be installed behind the sash so that the window can open. To accomplish this current designs use methods including: o Mounting the screen around hardware such as winders and lock handles with a skirt 0 Attached fixings to the window to hold the screen in place such as a clip; or drill into the o window section to receive perhaps a pin O Hinge the screen so that it opens inwards giving access to the sash operating handle.
Generally sections that arc added to the window to allow other screens to sit around hardware take up some viewable area. Internally other screens appear as an 'add on' being attached behind the window frame arid around any hardware, whereas thiis screen is attached within tie window frame behind the sash rebate.
In this invention, the insect screen and fastening system require no modification to the window. The screen sits in the rebate between the sash and the opening while a flange overlaps the opening to keep the screen in place (Fig Internally, the screen appears as part of the window frame, not an add-on.
Externally the screen frame is not visible when the sash is closed.
The screen contains the fastening system (figs 2 and no modification is done to the window or the rebate to secure the screen. This fastening system is comprised of sprung pistons which are recessed into the screen section positioned symmetrically about the screen at intervals. The sprung piston (fig 4) comprises of a housing section, a spring, a combined piston and retaining tongue, and a thumb button which operates the piston.
The profile of the external edge of the screen frame section and the face of the piston are parallel and angled to match the angle of the profile of the rebate frame (fig When the insect screen is clipped into the sash opening the tongue on the piston holds the screen in place. The tongue sits between the rebate frame and the weather seal in the rebate, and suits any window with this style. The face of the sprung piston holds the screen against the inside edge of the sash opening and also prevents the insect screen from rattling in the wind. The screen can be removed from the inside for cleaning the screen or window by compressing the sprung pistons by using the thumb buttons. This is particularly useful for elevated windows where safety is important.
