Description

AUSTRALIA
Patent Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT TIDAL ELECTRICITY GENERATOR The following statement is a full description of this invention, Including the best method of performing it known to me;
\O
0
O
TIDAL ELECTRICITY GENERATOR 00 This invention is a method of harnessing the immense power of the Stides as an alternative source of electricity, the invention consists -1O of a floating platform mounted on which, an alternator is driven by Sa set of revolving blades, the blades in turn, being revolved by the Ci 5 pressure of the current of the rising or falling tides.
Incorporated in this invention there is also the provision of a kind of alternate source of power Diesel, battery, gas, solar, etc. to drive the alternator during the slack and changing direction of the tides, also included in this invention there is an apparatus that allows the direction of the alternator shaft to remain the same although the direction of the tide has reversed, also because of the rather slow movement of the rotating blades the gears connected to the alternator will be positioned as such; a large gear on the periphery of the revolving blade's frame and a small one driving the alternator giving the alternator a much faster rate of speed.
A part of the invention is also the shape of the pontoons that support the working platform on which the revolving blades and generator are installed, they shall be in the shape of a double ended canoe, so as to further help the speed of the tide by acting as a funnel.
2 The invention may be better understood with the reference to the O illustration of embodiments of the invention which;figure 1 is an overview of the complete invention, 2 is the floating pontoons supporting the 3 main platform, 4 are the revolving paddles, 5 are the generators, one only shown for clarity, any number can be installed on the apparatus, 6 are the motors to drive the generators oo during the slack time when the tide change direction, only one also shown for clarity, 7 are the constant direction apparatus, it will be in clearer details, 8 is the ring gear and situated on the periphery of the revolving paddles frame, 9 is the rotating paddles shaft, are the shaft supporting bearing. Figure 2 is a cross section of the constant direction apparatus in which 8 is the ring gear, from figure 1, showing 20 the inner gear, 21 the outer gear, 11 is the inner driven sprocket and the splained axle, 12 is the outer sprocket and the splained axle, 13 is the inner and outer splained bush that engages the 17 generator driving sprocket, 15 is the pusher ring that pushes the 13 bush into the 17 sprocket, 14 is the inner and outer splained bush that engages the 18 generator driving sprocket, 16 is the pusher ring that pushes the 14 bush into the 18 sprocket, 19 is the generator axle. To clearly show the working of this apparatus, figure 2 is shown in the neutral position allowing the generator to be driven by a motor during the tidal time of changing direction, in this instance it can be seen that the generator axle 19is driving the sprockets 17 and 18 without engaging any other gear. When the tide start flowing supposing it is the out going tide, the ring gear 8 will turn in a clock wise direction the sprocket 11 will also turn in a clock wise direction and by pushing the bush 14 into the sprocket 18 the generator axle 19 will turn in an anti clock wise direction, now the tide has turned and it is flowing in an incoming direction the ring gear 8 will turn in an anti clock wise direction causing the sprocket 12 to turn in a clock wise direction and also turning the generator axle 19 in an anti clock wise direction, when the bush 13 is pushed into the sprocket 17, the same as the out going tide. This is an advantage without the need of changing polarity on the generator and changing the direction of the of the motor for the tidal change of direction.
