0 ANTI-INTRUSION BARRIER ci FIELD OF INVENTION The present invention relates to barriers for preventing vehicle access to an C 5 area. The present invention has particular but not exclusive application for use in IN parks and recreational areas. The specification describes the use of the invention in parks or recreational areas by way of example but the application of the invention is Snot limited to this example.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Barriers are often erected around the boundaries of a park or recreational area in order to prevent motor vehicle access to these areas.
Current barriers comprise timber rails and posts. Barriers are commonly formed with treated pine logs, As the barriers are constantly exposed to adverse weather conditions, the wooden posts and rails tend to deteriorate rapidly. As a result of the rapid deterioration of the timber barriers, considerable effort and costs are involved in maintaining and replacing the barriers.
Furthermore, the barriers have a rail that is generally fixed to the post by a stake or long nail. This method of attachment is a single point attachment and causes splitting of the wooden rails and posts thereby accelerating deterioration of the barriers.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an anti-intrusion barrier that is more durable compared to the above mentioned timber barriers and that overcomes at least in part one or more of the above mentioned problems.

Reference to ground includes any suitable base surfaces such as earth, grass and concrete areas.
Preferably, said receiving section has a substantially concave shape. More preferably the substantially concave receiving section serves to hold and retain the rail in position.
In one preferred form said receiving section is a concave shaped section integrally formed at the upper end of the post. The concave shaped section forms a seat on which the rail is supported.
In an alternate form said mounting portion is a cap attachable to said post and has a concave section to support the rail.
In the most preferred form said mounting portion is a mounting fixed to the post and having a concave section to support the rail.
Preferably the post and rail are made of metal and more preferably are galvanized or powder coated prior to use.

More preferably the mounting is welded to the post and then galvanized or powder coated as a single unit.
Said rail is preferably spot welded to said receiving section of the mounting portion.
2 Preferably both the rail and post are substantially tubular.
In one form said rail is supported by a single post located substantially 0N o midway along the length of the rail. In a more preferred form the barrier is formed with two spaced apart posts supporting a single rail.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT The present invention will now be described using the example of an antio intrusion barrier that is erected around the boundaries of a park. It is to be NO understood that the anti-intrusion barrier may be erected around other areas, for 0 O example, motor vehicle parking lots where access to the areas by motor vehicles is to be regulated.
With reference to figures 1 to 6, there is shown a preferred embodiment of an anti-intrusion barrier 10, with two upright posts 11, 12 and a horizontal rail 14 fixed above the ground supported on the two upright posts 11, 12. Each of the upright post 11, 12 has a foot portion 15, 16 for positioning in the ground. Each upright post 11, 12 has a mounting portion 18, 19 that supports the rail 14.
The anti-intrusion barrier 10 shown in figure 1 has two mounting portions 18, 19 supporting the rail 14 on two upright posts 11, 12. With reference to figure 3, each mounting portion 18, 19 have a receiving section 21 that is substantially concave. The receiving section 21 has a complementary shape to the tubular rail 14. In use the rail 14 is supported on the mounting portion 18 and is prevented from movement by the rising sides of the receiving section 18,.
Although the preferred embodiment of the anti-intrusion barrier describes a rail supported on two upright posts, it is to be understood that a longer rail can be made and fixed to more than two upright posts. A rail can also be fixed to a single upright post, For example, a rail can be supported on a mounting portion at the midpoint of the length of the rail to form a T-shaped anti-intrusion barrier.

In another embodiment of the anti-intrusion barrier, not illustrated in figures, the mounting portion can be designed to be welded to a side of the upright post so that the rail is fixed to the upright post at a position above the ground to form an anti- O intrusion barrier having the shape of a cross bar.
The upright posts 11,12, the rail 14 and the mounting portions 18,19 of the Santi-intrusion barrier 10 are all made of galvanized or powder coated metal. The use of metal provides an anti-intrusion barrier which is stronger and more resistant to deterioration by natural elements such as sunlight and rain as the conventional timber barriers. Consequently the anti-intrusion barrier of the preferred embodiment is comparatively longer lasting and more cost effective.
ADVANTAGES
The preferred embodiment of the anti-intrusion barrier has the advantage that it is more robust and durable and thereby longer lasting than conventional timber barriers. The rail is supported on a concave section being part of or attached to each post. There is no single point of attachment. Furthermore the components of the anti-intrusion barrier are made of metal providing strength and long life span properties.
