Description
AUSTRALIA Patents Act COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (ORIGINAL) Class Int. Class Application Number: Lodged: Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority Related Art: Name of Applicant: Franz Plasser Bahnbaumaschinen-Industriegesellschaft m.b.H. Actual Inventor(s): Josef Theurer, Helmar Brands Address for Service and Correspondence: PHILLIPS ORMONDE & FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: A TRACK MAINTENANCE MACHINE Our Ref: 748071 POF Code: 1203/1203 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1 - 0410 - AU The invention relates to a track maintenance machine according to the features cited in the introductory clause of claim 1. Regarding the operation of track maintenance machines, particularly in urban residential areas, increased efforts are made to lower the noise level of the working units. However, since the latter are adjustable with respect to the machine frame and furthermore require unhindered contact with the track during working operations, an efficient reduction of the sound emissions proves difficult. It is the object of the present invention to provide a machine of the specified type with which it is possible to attain better noise insulation. According to the invention, this object is achieved with a machine of the type mentioned at the beginning by means of the features cited in the characterizing clause of claim 1. Due to this elastically formed portion of the soundproofing wall, the latter - to better reduce the sound emissions - can be lowered until it contacts the sleepers. In doing so, track sections having superstructures projecting from the sleepers (such as, for example, control cabinets, switch tongues and the like) can be passed over without problems and without requiring the soundproofing wall to be raised and the noise level to be increased in the process. Additional advantages and features of the invention become apparent from the further claims and the drawing. The invention will be described in more detail below with reference to an embodiment represented in the drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a side view of a tamping machine including a soundproofing wall, Figs. 2 and 3 each show an enlarged top view of a section of the soundproofing wall, and Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of the soundproofing wall.
A track maintenance machine 1, visible in Fig. 1, comprises a machine frame 4 mobile on a track 3 by means of on-track undercarriages 2. Located between the two on-track undercarriages 2, which are arranged at the ends, are working units 5 in the shape of tamping units adjustable vertically and perpendicularly to a longitudinal direction 6 of the machine. A track lifting unit 7 serves for correcting the track position. The section in the region of the working units 5, normally freely accessible in the transverse direction of the machine, is covered by a soundproofing wall 10 extending in the longitudinal direction 6 of the machine and vertically. The soundproofing wall 10 is delimited by an upper and lower end 8 as well as lateral ends 9 which are spaced from one another with respect to the longitudinal direction 6 of the machine and connect the two ends. As can be seen particularly in Fig. 4, the lower end 8 of the soundproofing wall 10 is formed by a flexible lower soundproofing section 11 consisting of elastic material. At an upper end 12 spaced from the lower end 8, said soundproofing section 11 is connected to a rigidly formed upper soundproofing section 13. The latter comprises a number of glass-covered sight windows 14. Each of the two lateral ends 9 of the upper soundproofing section 13 is connected to a respective folding wall 16 pivotable about a joint 15. By means of a second joint 17, the folding wall 16 is connected in turn to a vertical adjustment device 18 fastened to the machine frame 4 (see Figs. 2,3). Located between the two joints 15,17 is a third joint 19, so that the folding wall 16 is composed of two parts 20 configured to be folded together. The three joints 15,17,19 and a screw spindle 22, rotatable by a drive 23, of the vertical adjustment device 18 all have axes 21 extending parallel to one another. The soundproofing wall 10 can be distanced from the machine frame 4 or the working unit 5 perpendicularly to the longitudinal direction 6 of the machine by means of a drive 24, during which the two parts 20 of the two folding walls 16 are folded apart (Fig. 3). This enables an unimpeded transverse displacement of 3 the working unit 5 for the operation thereof, for example in a switch section. Since the second joint 17 is displaceable in a vertical guide 25 with the aid of the screw spindle 22, the soundproofing wall 10 together with the folding walls 16 can be unhinderedly vertically adjusted in any lateral position. At their lower ends, both parts 20 of the folding wall 16 are also made of elastic material for elongating the upper soundproofing section 13. The upper end 8 of the soundproofing wall 10 is articulatedly connected to a cover 26 which, in turn, is connected to the machine frame 4 and is telescopically extendable (Fig. 4). An upper section 27 of the folding wall 16 is made of elastic material and touches the cover 26. An obstacle sensor 28, positioned in front of the soundproofing wall 10 in the operating direction, causes an automatic actuation of the drive 23 for vertical adjustment of the soundproofing wall 10 as soon as an obstacle appears which is insurmountable for the lower soundproofing section 11. For improving the sound insulation, the lower soundproofing section 11 is formed of several layers 29 of elastic materal, spaced from one another in the transverse direction of the machine.
