Description

Description Traditionally if a workbench were to be enclosed to provide protection from the O elements or security when not in use, the workbench would need to be enclosed or housed within a larger structure that would require the workbench user to enter into such as a shed or workshop. Traditionally, this enclosing structure would be larger 00 than the workbench and would be a separate entity to the workbench. Traditionally, 00 the enclosure would be of such a size that the enclosure containing the workbench Owould not be able to fit into limited spaces. This invention is a workbench that is enclosed by a cabinet-like structure. This invention is designed to reduce the amount Sof space required for an enclosed workbench as the workbench is enclosed about the perimeter of the workbench. This enclosed workbench is designed in an innovative way to include both the workbench and the method of enclosure (the cabinet) in the one device. This invention provides a workspace above the workbench available to the user when the cabinet is in the open position.
Whilst the preferred material for manufacture would ideally be a combination of steel for the workbench frame, wood or sheet metal for the workbench work surface and sheet metal for the enclosing cabinet, other durable materials could be used as the materials are not essential to the way this invention works. The method of opening of the cabinet may be via hinged doors, roller doors or sliding doors. Again, the method of cabinet opening is not essential to the way the invention works.
The method of construction and attachment is not essential to the way the enclosed workbench functions, however welding, bolting, screwing or riveting are the preferred methods for construction and attachment.
Features which are essential to the way the invention works include: A workbench which comprises a workbench frame and workbench top and which is attached to an enclosure which is comprised of a cabinet type structure with A floor at the base of the enclosed workbench -4 vertical ?walls?, 3 of which are attached to the perimeter of the workbench; one of these vertical walls is able to be opened to reveal the workbench contained inside A roof or lid type structure on the top of the enclosure at a suitable height above the workbench top to provide a workspace. Please refer to Figure 1 Front elevation of enclosed workbench with doors open for a pictorial description of the workbench with O the enclosing cabinet. Accessories of tools, drawers, shadow boards etc. pictured are not included in this innovation patent application 00 The best way for the enclosed workbench to be put into effect is by opening the
V)
00 enclosed workbench via a door/doors on one of the vertical faces and then for the user to stand or sit facing the workbench. When not in use, the door door of the enclosed t workbench can be closed.
The enclosed workbench does not have to be a particular size. However, as the enclosed workbench is designed to fit into limited spaces, the preferred dimensions would be similar to 1170mm wide, 1980mm high and 600mm deep. Alternatively, it would have dimensions that would be reasonably expected. (Refer Figure l) Preferred optional features may include door locking mechanisms external to the enclosed workbench.
