Description

AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 Complete Specification Innovation Patent Dynamic Stability Platform The following Statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us.
Many people are now familiar with the term core stability and are gradually trying to make exercise more functional both in preventative and rehabilitative exercises and equipment. There are many methods and materials used to strengthen stability muscles, but often these are used in body position that are non-functional or irrelevant to specific sports or work situations.
To determine the use of the word function would be to replicate an activity of daily living.
Many exercises both preventative and rehabilitative are performed using steps or blocks and progressive resistance exercise bands or tubing made of rubber latex.
The present invention has been specifically devised to provide a portable lightweight platform of variable heights that incorporates the use of resistance tubing. These said tubes can be attached to the lower limbs by padded Velcro straps (with D ring attachment), below the users knees.
The use of the said tubing can be of variable length and resistance to provide optional multi directional resistance to the standing or moving leg whilst performing functional exercises such as step ups. This allows the prescribed exercise to challenge both strength and stability of the lower limbs and trunk with the user being forced to produce a counter force to the tubing.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations Figure 1 shows the complete stability platform, which can be of variable dimensions. The said platform can be made out of hardened plastic or other lightweight materials, such as aluminium or timber and can carry the weight of 140kg person.
The surface of the said platform is preferably of lattice or grid like design so the said tubing can be attached from the platform surface to the limb at variable angles and distances depending on the requirements of the exercise.
Figure 2 shows the complete tubing with its attachments to the caribiner and the Velcro strap.
The tubing which can be of various thickness's and lengths can be attached to the lower limb (assumed to be just below the knee) preferably using a Velcro strap 2 or alike, which has a steel D ring 3 attached to it.
Figure 3 shows how the tubing can be attached to the said platforms surface The said tubing can preferably be attached to the surface of the platform and the Velcro strap by clips such as caribiners/snap locks 5 or other such attachments. The tubing can be held to the end of the clips by a reinforced knot or such things as wire rope grips 6 or alike.
Figure 4. Shows how the height of the platform can be increased by placing one platform on top of another. These said platforms may be attached 4 securely and safely by using a tight fitting male attachment and a female reciprocal attachment and may be used to increase the difficulty of the exercise.

Claims (3)

1. The platform is designed to be lightweight and can be made of hardened plastic or such like material.
2. Because the platform has a lattice or grid like surface it can have attached to it various strength resistance tubing which is in turn attached to one or both legs by Velcro straps.
3. The platform can be of various heights and dimensions and with the use of the said resistance tubes allow functional exercise to be carried out with various resistance depending on the requirements of the exercise. Name of applicants: Christopher Whitaker Signed Date Stuart Pavely Signed Date
