Description
AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Applicant(s): UNDERWORKS PTY LTD A.C.N. 088 861 616 Invention Title: FOOTWEAR SOCKS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us: 2 FOOTWEAR SOCKS The present invention relates to footwear socks. 5 A disadvantage of currently available socks is that there are no clear markings of sock sizes on the socks. 10 Thus, it is difficult to distinguish socks of one sock size from socks of another sock size. One practical outcome is that it is often a time-consuming exercise for a person to sort washed and dried socks of different sizes into pairs of socks of the same size. 15 In addition, the lack of clear markings of sock sizes on socks often means that a certain amount of guess work is involved in deciding the size of new socks that are required to replace worn socks. 20 The present invention provides a footwear sock that includes the size of the sock on the sock. Preferably the sock size is knitted on the sock. 25 Preferably the sock size is colour-coded, whereby different colours represent different sock sizes. The colour coding highlights the sock size. 30 Preferably the colour-coded sock size includes the number of the sock size in one colour on a background region of another colour. The present invention also provides a packaged 35 pair of footwear socks, with each sock of the pair including the size of the sock and the package indicating the sock size.
3 Preferably the sock size is knitted on each sock. Preferably the sock size is colour-coded on each 5 sock, whereby different colours represent different sock sizes. Preferably the sock and the package include the colour-coded sock size. 10 In addition to highlighting the sock size and being a recognisable indicator of sock size, colour coding the packaging and the socks assists a purchaser in identifying the particular sock manufacturer and sock type 15 from other socks. Specifically, the purchaser need only match the colour-coding on worn socks with the same colour-coding on replacement socks on display at a retail outlet to find replacement socks for the worn socks. 20 The present invention is described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 is a plan view of one embodiment of a 25 sock in accordance with the present invention; and Figure 2 is a plan view of a label that forms part of one embodiment of a package for a pair of socks in accordance with the present invention. 30 The sock shown in Figure 1 is of a standard form in terms of basic structure and includes a foot section 3, a heel section 5, and a leg section 7. 35 The sock is characterised in that the size of the sock, namely size 9-12 in the present instance is knitted in the foot section 3 of the sock.
4 More particularly, in the case of the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the sock size is colour-coded by presenting the number of the sock size in one colour on a 5 background region, in this case a rectangular region, of another colour region of another colour. With reference to Figure 2, the label for a package for a pair of the colour-coded sized sock shown in 10 Figure 1 is marked with the sock size in the same colour coded format on the top right hand corner of the label. The colour coding links the package and the socks and enables customers to more readily distinguish different sized socks when sorting washed socks and to identify the 15 sock manufacturer and sock type of socks when purchasing new socks. Many modifications may be made to the embodiments of the sock and the package of the present invention 20 described above and shown in the drawings without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. By way of example, whilst the colour-coded sock size is knitted into the embodiment of the sock shown in 25 Figure 1, the present invention is not so limited and extends to any suitable options for marking the sock size, with or without colour-coding, on socks. By way of further example, whilst the colour 30 coded sock size is knitted into the foot section 3 of the embodiment of the sock shown in Figure 1, the present invention is not so limited and the sock size can be marked on any suitable section of a sock.
