Description

EASY-ON
CLOTHING
The following statement is a full description of this innovation.
EASY-ON CLOTHING The Technical field for this innovation is Category 6 Medical/Human Necessities.
One of the major causes of skin tears in the elderly occur when nursing staff are dressing and undressing clients. This happens because the client's limbs have, with age and various medical conditions become quite stiff.
It is a struggle for both the staff and the client to get the arm through the sleeve of any type of garment. The arms, at the elbow joint, get caught on the under arm seam where the sleeve joins the bodice.
This innovation has been designed in order to provide people with a simple and comfortable way of donning and removing apparel. While the concept of Easy-On Clothing was developed with the frail aged in mind, Easy-On Clothing would be very suitable for all age groups who have difficultly dressing and undressing.
The false facing, diagram 4, is made from a double thickness of soft material. One side of the false facing is sewn on to the back of both the bodice and sleeve at A.
and B. The Velcro is attached at A which is in line with the side seam of the bodice. By sewing the facing on at A and B, the garment and facing will be easy to launder and iron.
The other side of the Velcro is sewn on the front of the bodice and sleeve at C. along the turned down side seam of the bodice and the front of the under arm sleeve seam.
The false facing will then extend past the Velcro join to the front of the garment so that the skin is protected at all times from ever coming into contact with the Velcro.
Included in the illustrations are designs for short sleeved garments where the sleeve under arm seam opens completely.
In the sleeveless model, the bodice underarm seam opens from the arm hole to 10cm. down the bodice side seam.
To put the clothing on, the garment is first placed over the client's head. The career then pushes their hand down the sleeve at the wrist opening, and the other hand opens up the seams by pulling the Velcro apart. The career then takes the clients hand and gently eases the garment along the same process applies to the other arm.
When the garment is pulled down into position, the seams are then closed by running a hand down the underarm seam along the sleeve and bodice. The false facing behind this seam ensures that no harsh surface touches the client's skin.
When the clothing is to be removed, the garment is opened at the under arm seam on the sleeves and bodice.
The arms are withdrawn through this gap. The garment is then lifted over the head or in the case of a shirt front removed from the shoulders.
