Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT Spring-loaded device for opening and closing plastic chemical and drench containers The following statement is a full description of this invention, Including the best method of performing it known to me.
Spring-loaded device for opening and closing plastic chemical and drench containers This invention is a dual-purpose device which allows the operator to use the one tool to open both flush mounted bungs and raised screw caps of varying sizes on commonly used plastic chemical and drench drums ranging from 10 litres to 205 litres capacity.
The device is best made from two square tubular steel pieces, fitting one inside the other, but other metals, alloys or suitably strong plastic may be used in its construction. A spring fitted to the inner tube allows the outer tube to be retracted so that the projecting grips can fit across a range of sizes of raised screw caps, thus giving firm hold and good mechanical advantage to the operator opening the cap.
A second set of non-adjustable projections has two uses. Firstly, both projections sit alongside the lugs of a flush fitted bung, allowing the operator to turn the tool against these lugs to open or close the bung.
Secondly, the end of the non-adjustable projections is designed to fit the internal dimensions of small bungs which accommodate tap fittings on containers.
The invention may be clearly understood by reference to the accompanying illustrations as described below: Figure 1 is a top view showing the location of the spring and the adjustable projections for external clamping.
Figure 2 is a side view showing both adjustable and non-adjustable projections.
Figure 3 is an end view showing the construction and dimensions of both types of projection.
Claims (3)
1. A spring-loaded device having adjustable and non-adjustable projections for fitting varying dimensions of raised screw caps and flush-fitting bungs in plastic chemical and drench containers of 205 litres Capacity.
2. A spring-loaded device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device is made of steel tubing or other metals, alloys or suitably strong plastic.
3. A spring-loaded device substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings. Robert Albert RSD Dobie, 205 Warrayatkin Rd Ararat Victoria 3377 7 July 2004
