Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT NONFLAMMABLE CARRIER LIQUIDS CONSISTING OF ORGANIC MISCIBLE SOLVENTS OR THEIR EMULSIONS TO DELIVER EMBALMING PRESERVATIVES INTO DEAD
TISSUES.
The invention is described in the following statement: Current embalming processes use carbinol methanol and water for delivering embalming chemicals and additives into dead tissues. The preservative agents in these chemicals are generally aldehyde compounds which may be a gaseous substance in solution. Carbinol is used as the carrier and stabilising agent for these compounds. While carbinol has preservative properties it is flammable, very toxic and has a relatively high evaporative rate which in turn increases the exposure rate of toxic compounds carried.
This invention will now be further described by reference to the following examples. All organic nonflammable solvents used must have a flash point not greater than 61 degrees Centigrade, have an evaporation rate less than 100 (butyl acetate) and need to have a viscosity less than 20 cps.
Example 1: Example 2: Arterial Fluid Water de-mineralised Additives Methanal 2- (2-ethoxy ethoxy ethanol Methoxy isopropanol Limonene Cavity Fluid Water demin.
Additives Methanal Propylene glycol methyl ether Tetrahydrofurfurol 30-70% <6% 30-70% 15-30% 15-30% <1% 30-70% 20-30% 10-20% 15-30% Example 3: Arterial Fluid Water demin. 30-70% Additives <6% Methanal 15-30% Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate 30-70%% Butyl acetate <1% Example 4: Arterial Emulsion Water demin.
Additives Emulsifiers Methanal Propylene glycol propylene ether Propylene glycol butyl ether Tetrahydrofurfurol 30-70% 10-20% 15-20% 20-30% 5-10% Example Cauterant Fluid Water demin. 10-30% Additives 5-6% Propyleneglycol methyl ether 10-30% Dimethyl adipate 10-30% Dimethyl glutarate 15-60% Dimethyl succinate 10-20% Embalming additives may consist of colourants, chelating agents, buffering chemicals, inorganic salts, humectants, desiccants etc.
In comparison to the described examples, carbinol has a flash point of 10 to 20 degrees centigrade and an evaporation rate of 400 to 500. The absence of carbinol thereby reduces the flammability, toxicity and exposure rates of these products.
Performance of these examples are subsequently and inherently improved.
