Patents Act COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
(ORIGINAL)
Class Int. Class Application Number: Lodged: Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority Related Art: Name of Applicant: Schutz GmbH Co. KGaA Actual Inventor(s): Udo Schutz Address for Service and Correspondence: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: COVER FOR A STORAGE CONTAINER FOR LIQUIDS Our Ref: 707781 POF Code: 20412/455950 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- Cover for a storage container for liquids The invention concerns a cover for the connecting sockets provided on the top end of a storage container for liquids, in particular flammable liquids like heating oil, the connecting sockets used for pipelines like feed and return lines of the oil burner of a heating boiler as well as for a fuel gauge, a suction pump, an aerating and ventilation valve and similar operational equipment.
The manufacture of such covers, that are preferably used for container tanks for heating oil installed in the open and are made from sheet metal, is expensive.
The object of the invention is to further develop the generic cover for storage containers with regard to an optimum protection against the ingress of moisture as well as a cost-effective manufacture.
According to the invention this objective is achieved by a cover for storage containers for liquids having the features of patent claim 1 as well as by the manufacturing method according to patent claim 7.
The invention is explained below based on the figures of the drawing, illustrating the following in: Figs.1 and 2 perspective illustrations of a storage container for heating oil with closed and open cover, Figs.3 and 4 side views of the above section of the container with closed and open cover, a longitudinal section of the upper section of the container with the cover closed, and Fig.6 a side view of the body of the cover deep-drawn from a plastic plate material showing the cuts dividing the hood body into two hood parts.
2 The parallelepiped-shaped storage container 1, for liquids, particularly flammable liquids like heating oil, used oil, lubricating oil and Diesel fuel, made from sheet metal, has a bottom end 2, four lateral walls 3-6 joined by four rounded corner regions 7, a top end 8 with a connecting socket 9 for the feed line 10 and a connecting socket 11 for the return line 12 of the oil burner of a heating boiler, a socket 13 to insert a fuel gauge as well as a connecting socket 14 for the aeration and ventilation valve and a cover 15 for the connecting sockets 9, 11, 13, 14 and the various operational equipment.
The divided cover 15, made from plastic material, comprises a stationary hood part 17 fitted to the edge 16 of the top end 8 of the storage container 1 and a pivotable hood part 18 hinged on the stationary one. In the closed position 18a the pivotable hood part 18 lies with a closing edge 19 on the edge 16 of the top end 8 of the storage container 1 and with a cover edge 20, that encloses the face opening 21 of the hood part 18 and extends in a plane 22-22 obliquely to the closing edge 19 in the direction of closing a of the hood part 18, overlaps the opening edge 23 of the face opening 24 of the stationary hood part 17. In the open position 18b the pivotable hood part 18 overlaps the stationary hood part 17 with a clearance and rests with the leading edge 25 on a shoulder 26 of the stationary hood part 17. Into the opening edge 23 of the face opening 24 of the stationary hood part 17 a draining channel 27 is moulded, through which the rain or molten snow, possibly entering through the gap 28 between the pivotable and stationary hood parts 18, 17, can be drained.
The stationary and the pivotable hood parts 17, 18 of the cover 15 have a bottom cover edge 29, 30 respectively, which overlap the edge 16 of the top end 8 of the storage container 1. In the region of the bottom cover edge 30 the pivotable hood part 18 has an outwardly formed section 31, that in the closed position 18a of the pivotable hood part forms between its bottom cover edge 30 and the edge 16 of the top end 8 of the storage container 1 a passing-through opening 32 for the feed and return lines 10, 12 of the oil burner of a heating boiler which are connected to the connecting sockets 9, 11 of the storage container 1.
The pivotable hood part 18 has an inwardly formed portion 33 to accommodate a handle 34 for the purpose of opening and closing the cover 15, while the handle 34 is a piece of a pipe Instead of the piece of pipe as a handle, a lock may be provided on the pivotable hood part to lock the cover, while the lock is constructed as a handle to open and close the cover.
To manufacture the cover a hood body 36 illustrated in Fig.6 is deep drawn from a plastic plate 37. First the deep-drawn edge 38 is separated from the hood body 36 by a cut 39-39 parallel to the plane 40-40 of the plate material 37. Following this the hood body 36 is separated into a first hood part 17, that is firmly attached to the edge 16 of the top end 8 of a storage container 1, as well as into a second hood part 18, that is fastened in an articulated manner on the first hood part 17.
The separation of the hood body 36 in two hood parts 17, 18 is carried out by cutting out a segment 41 from the hood body with two further cuts 42-42 and 43- 43, while one cut 42-42 runs on the inside 45 of the draining channel 27 perpendicularly to the bottom edge 44 of the hood body 36 and the other cut 43- 43 runs through the hood body from the bottom edge 44 of the hood body 36 obliquely to the first cut 42-42.
