In a preferred embodiment, the present invention can provide a method to produce the outer container for a storage container for liquids according to the first aspect of this invention, including the steps of blow-moulding the body of the outer container with four lateral walls, a bottom end and a dome-shaped top end with an upset, flat, horizontal or slightly outward sloping edge strip, that merges via a frame-like edge with four edge sections that are parallel to the lateral walls of the body of the outer container and four inwardly arched narrow connecting sections into four upper, inward offset edge sections of the four lateral walls of the body of the outer container, while the frame-like edge of the top end protrudes slightly outward by a dimension a past the upper edge W:\DELILAHIMBM\2OO22621OO-retyped pages.doc 1C sections of the four lateral walls of the body of the outer container, as well as the separation of the top end forming the cover of the outer container by cutting out the connecting sections from the closed blow-moulded body of the outer container afters its cooling off.
The plastic construction of the outer container of the storage container can make a simple and cost-effective manufacture of the outer container, fitted with a removable plastic end, feasible.
W:\DELILAH\ABM\2002262100-retyped pages.doc 2 The invention is explained in the following based on the figures of the drawing, illustrating the following in: Fig.1 a perspective illustration of a storage container, Fig.2 an exploded illustration of the storage container according to Fig. 1, Fig.3 a detailed, enlarged longitudinal sectioned illustration of the top end of the inner container as well as of the top edge region and of the lid of the outer container as well as of the bottom end region of the inner container and of the outer container with the base of the storage container, and Fig.4 a detailed, enlarged longitudinal sectioned illustration of the top end region of the blow-moulded body of the outer container.
Main components of the storage container 1 for liquids, in particular flammable liquids like heating oil, used oil, lubricating oil and Diesel fuel, are a parallelepiped shaped, blow-moulded plastic inner container 2, that has four lateral walls 3-6, a bottom end 7 and an arched top end 8 with a filler socket 9, a discharge socket 10, a ventilation socket 11 as well as a socket 12 to insert a fuel gauge, further a blow-moulded plastic outer container 13 accommodating the inner container 2, the outer container being formed by four lateral walls 14-17, a bottom 18 and a removable plastic arched cover 19 with holes 20 corresponding to the filler socket 9, the discharge socket 10, the ventilation socket 11 as well as the socket 12 for the fuel gauge of the inner container 2 and serving the purpose of leak-proofing the inner container, an outer grate jacket 21 from vertical and horizontal metal grate rods 22, 23 as well as a pallet-like metal base 24 for the setting down and transporting of the storage container 1 by means of fork lifts or similar transporting means.
The base 24 of the storage container 1 has a sheet metal bottom 25, on which the inner container 2 and the outer container 13 stand. The sheet metal bottom of the base 24, together with the bottom frame 26 of the grate jacket 21 are fastened on the corner and central feet 27, 28, that are mounted on a foot-frame 29.
The rectangular cover 19 of the outer container 13, that is arched correspondingly to the arched top end 8 of the inner container 2, has a downward drawn edge 31 enclosing the top opening edge 30 of the outer container, the edge having hookshaped clamping elements 33 moulded in the corner areas 32 for the purpose of fastening the cover 19 on the edge 30 of the opening of the outer container 13, that has corresponding holders 35 in the corner areas 34. The cover 19 of the outer container 13 has a continuous, flat edge strip 36 for the positioning of the foot-frame 29 of the base 24 of a stacked storage container 1 and in the central section 37 of the cover 19 a flat collecting depression 38 is formed for the liquid leaked drop-by-drop from the connecting threads and fittings.
The cover 19 is secured on the outer container 13 by two locking straps 39 made of a flat bar, abutting against the cover, the locking straps screwed to two opposite situated frame parts 41, 42 of the top frame 40 of the grate jacket 21.
