Description

P/00/011 Regulation 3.2 AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT ORIGINAL TO BE COMPLETED BY APPLICANT Name of Applicant: ROBERT BOSCH GMBH Actual Inventors: Michael Mueller and George Creek Address for Service: CALLINAN LAWRIE, 711 High Street, Kew, Victoria 3101, Australia Invention Title: MOUNTING DEVICE The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: 24/06103,eh13325.cov, 1 -2 MOUNTING DEVICE The invention relates to a mounting device, in particular but not exclusively for mounting an electronic control unit (ECU) in a vehicle. 5 Background As is known, ECUs are mounted using clamp pieces or screws. However, when tools need to be used to attach mounting devices, lack of space in the vehicle can 10 lead to difficulties installation in installation and at least in the case of mounting devices of the clamp piece type, a gap or allowance between the housing of the ECU and the vehicle can cause undesirable vibrations or rattling of the ECU. Object of the invention 15 The object of this invention is to make available a mounting device through which at least one of the difficulties described above can be avoided. Summary of the invention 20 According to the invention there is provided a mounting device with a connecting piece for coupling onto an object, and with a locking piece for securing the connecting piece onto the object, said connecting piece including a clamp piece for feeding through an opening in the object, and said locking piece engaging in the 25 clamp piece to prevent the clamp piece from coming loose from the opening, said clamp piece includes two legs with opposing recesses for receiving a clamp separation means of the locking piece; said clamp separation means serving for the detachable securing of the locking piece with respect to the clamp piece. 30 The locking piece and the connecting piece are preferably formed in one piece. The locking piece is preferably linked together with the connecting piece. The mounting 27/07/09,va 13325 p2speci,2 -3 device is preferably formed in one piece with a body on which the object is securely fastened. The body is preferably a housing for an ECU. Alternatively the body is a component of the vehicle, such as e.g. trimming and the 5 object is a housing for an ECU. Alternatively the clamp piece features a single leg, which projects from the body on which the object is secured and the locking part is so arranged, that it fits between the leg and the body. 10 In another alternative the clamp piece can be in the form of a clamp sleeve, whereby the locking piece is then so arranged that it fits into the clamp sleeve. The locking piece preferably includes a straddling element for holding the clamp 15 piece against the object. According to a still more preferred design, the straddling element is constructed in the form of a part projecting on the clamp piece, which drives the clamp piece against the object when the locking piece is engaged. A housing for an ECU is also made available, including a mounting device as 20 described above. Preferably the housing also includes one or more retaining clips for securing the housing to the vehicle. Short description of the drawings 25 The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, whereby the examples provided should not be considered to be the only realisations possible. The drawings show, in 30 3 0/06/09,va 13325 p2-p3speci,3 -4 Figure 1 a view in perspective of a mounting device; Figure 2 a schematic cross-section of the mounting device according to Figure 1 in engaged state; 5 Figure 3 a schematic perspective view of another design of the mounting device; Figure 4 a plan view in perspective of the preferred design of a mounting device, which is coupled with an ECU housing; Figure 5 a perspective view, from below, of a mounting device according to Figure 4; and 10 Figure 6 a perspective view of a holding clip of the housing shown in Figures 4 and 5. Detailed description 15 Figures 1 and 2 are firstly referred to, where a mounting device is shown, which is connected to the body 2. The mounting device 1 has a connecting piece 3 in the form of a clamp piece 4 and a locking piece 5 constructed in one piece with it, which is coupled with the clamp piece 4 by means of a linkage 6. The connecting piece 3 also features a lateral 20 web 7 between the body 2 and a leg 8 of the clamping part 4, by means of which an intermediate area 9 is formed, in which the locking piece 5 can be inserted. In order to secure the body 2 with reference to an object 10, such as eg. a clamp separation or securing into a vehicle, an opposite side (not shown) of the body 2 is secured on the 25 object and the clamp piece 4 is led through an opening 11 so that a rim 12 engages with an underside of the object. The locking part 5 is then rotated from the position between the housing and the clamp piece 4. A straddling element 14 in the form of a lateral projection bears against the clamp piece 4 and drives it so that it engages with the object 10, by means of which the mounting device is securely fixed with respect to the object. The projection 30 15 serves also as a type of second clamp separation means 20 in order to suppress the backward movement of the locking piece 5. A similar concept forms the basis of the mounting device 1 shown in Figure 3, where the parts shown in Figures 1 and 2 are provided with the same reference numbers. The clamp ?410 FJrn Ahl q A -5 piece 4 is in the form of a radially extendable clamp sleeve 16 and the locking piece is in the form of a gudgeon 17, which also features a second clamp separation means 20 and a spreading element 14 to tension the clamp piece 4 against an opening 11 in the object 10 when the gudgeon 17 is introduced into a central recess 18 of the clamp 5 piece 4. A further form of the mounting device 1 is shown in Figures 4 and 5, where again the corresponding parts shown in Figures 1 and 2 are provided with the same reference numbers. In this case, the clamp piece 4 is formed by means of two legs 19 and the 10 locking piece 5 contains a separate spreading element 14 and the two clamp separating means 20. The locking piece 5 is coupled with the clamp piece 4 via a linkage 6 so that it can be moved from the shown position into a locked state by means of a downward turning of the locking piece 5, coming to rest between the legs 19 of the clamp piece 4. When the locking piece 5 engages, the spreading element 15 14, which is constructed as an inbuilt projection 15, bears against the legs 19 moving them apart, while the second clamp separation means 20 are received in the opposite elongated recesses 24. When the locking piece 5 is completely engaged, the legs are spread apart and cannot return to the release position without the locking piece 5 being removed. In order to simplify the handling of the locking piece 5, lateral 20 wings 25 can be provided. The second clamp separation piece 21 is equipped with double chamfers 26 to make possible a simple locking piece and an unlocking of the locking piece 5 in respect of the first clamp piece 4. The mounting device 1 is formed in one piece with the body 2, which is preferably in 25 the form of a housing 28 of the ECU in order to make possible an easy manual connection of the ECU with an object 10, such as, e.g. a vehicle, whereby the clamp piece 4 is so arranged that it can be led through a corresponding opening 11 in sockets or similar attachments, of the vehicle. 30 In order to simplify the handling of the installation and the removal of the housing 28, the first clamp piece 4 is preferably equipped with double chamfers 29. Moreover, in order to protect the mounting device 1 against damage due to careless 30/06/09,va 13325 p5-p5aspeci,5 - 5a handling or the falling of the ECU housing, lateral limiting edges 30 limiting the mounting device 1 can be provided. The lateral limits can also serve the positioning and fixing of the housing 28. 5 30/06/09,va 13325 pS-pSaspeci,a -6 As shown in Figure 6, the body 2 can be equipped with a suitable securing shoulder 31 and a retaining clip 32 on an appropriate position, such as eg. on the side of the ECU housing opposite the side on which the mountain device 1 is secured. Due to the combination of the retaining clip 32 and the mounting device 1, the ECU can be applied manually without 5 the use of tools and minimal vibration is achieved due to the avoiding of a gap or clearance between the housing and the body of the motor vehicle. As a further alternative to the construction shown in Figures 4 to 6, it is possible to fix the mounting device 1 to a body 2, which is a component of the vehicle itself, such as 10 trimming and the object belonging to it would be in the form of the housing 28 of the ECU. Although the invention has been described with particular reference to mounting an ECU in a vehicle, it should not be concluded from this that the mounting device is limited to this application alone. 15 Reference Marks 1.
