Abstract

The spectacles, in particular, for protection at work are padded in the noze and/or ear zones by arched sections. These sections incorporate a series of parallel hollow rib-like protrusions which are open at the bottom, and consist of a relatively soft plastic material.

Patents Act COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
(ORIGINAL)
Class Int. Class Application Number: Lodged: Complete Specification Lodged: Accepted: Published: Priority Related Art: Name of Applicant: Uvex Arbeitsschutz GmbH Actual Inventor(s): Stefan Bruck Address for Service and Correspondence: PHILLIPS ORMONDE FITZPATRICK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys 367 Collins Street Melbourne 3000 AUSTRALIA Invention Title: A PAIR OF GOGGLES, PARTICULARLY A PAIR OF SAFETY GOGGLES Our Ref: 689037 POF Code: 1611/307228 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- 8o60q -1A- A Pair of Goggles, Particularly a Pair of Safety Goggles The invention relates to a pair of goggles, particularly a pair of safety goggles, having padded contact areas in the nose and/or ear area, wherein the padding is realized by means of a bubble-like convex, relatively soft plastic material which spans a gap in a relatively hard base material.
Such a pair of goggles is known from EP 0 529 202 B1. This design has proved very Suseful in practice and considerably improved user comfort.
The above discussion of background art is included to explain the context of the present invention. It is not to be taken as an admission that any of the documents or other material referred to was published, known or part of the common general knowledge at the priority date of any one of the claims of this specification.
Based on the foregoing, it would be desirable to improve user comfort even further and to achieve a secure, displacement-proof contact.
According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a pair of goggles, particularly a 0 pair of safety goggles, having padded contact areas in the nose and/or ear area, the padding being realized by means of a bubble-like convex, relatively soft plastic material which spans a gap in a relatively hard base material, wherein the bubble-like convexity includes a plurality of hollow rib-like projections which are open towards the inside of the bubble-like convexity and extend parallel to each other and at a distance from one another.
In particular, it is envisaged that the bubble-like convexity as a whole be deformable in a direction towards the gap and each rib-like projection be deformable in a direction parallel to the gap.
Conventional bubble-like convexities had a smooth surface on the one hand so that there was no maximum security against displacement, and the convex shape of the surface also brings about a certain stiffness on the other. In contrast to the foregoing, the rib-like projections provided according to the invention secure the goggles against displacement and are able to give way towards the inside so that a particularly high user comfort is \\sydneykdal RhN'689037Ami edr Spci Page IA and 4 doc achieved.
t,, Preferably, the relatively soft plastic material consists of TPE and the relatively hard plastic material consists of PC (polycarbonate) or PC Blend.
The invention will hereinafter be described with reference to a preferred embodiment and in connection with the drawing, in which Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a pair of safety goggles according to the invention as 3 seen from the front; Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the pair of safety goggles as seen from the back; Fig. 3 shows a view of the pair of safety goggles as seen from above; and Fig. 4 shows a sectional view of the nose contact area.
A pair of safety goggles 1 shown in the drawing comprises a sight piece 2 having two sight piece elements 3 connected with each other, which sight piece is fixed to an upper frame element 4. Ear pieces 7 are linked to the side ends 5 of the upper frame element by means of hinges 6, which ear pieces are lengthwise adjustable by means of a length adjustment device 8. This solution is described in detail in EP 0878 728 Al.
_3 A nose bridge element 9 having nose contact areas 10 is connected to the upper frame element in one piece.
Each of the aforesaid nose contact areas 10 is formed by an extension 11 of the nose bridge element made of relatively hard plastic material having a gap 12 across which a relatively soft plastic material is moulded in the form of a bubble-like convex envelope curve 13, but wherein no bubble having the form of a spherical cap which is known per se from the state of the art is provided, but a plurality of parallel rib-like projections 14 which are separated from one another by means of valleys or longitudinal slots By means of this embodiment it is achieved that the ribs 14 abutting the sides of the nose \Nrsd dtaJlllRM6s893"7Acndocd Spci Pag IA d 4 do can give way as a whole towards the inside, in a direction towards the gap 12 in the direction of the arrow 17 if a pressure in the direction of the arrows 16 occurs, and that in addition each rib can move sideways to a certain extent in the direction of the arrows 18 so that as an overall result a high flexibility and pliability and thus particularly high user comfort is achieved while at the same time the rib-like configuration prevents the goggles from becoming displaced relative to the nose.
cIn the present exemplary embodiment, the rib-like configuration has been explained in connection with the nose contact area. Designs of the aforesaid kind could, however, be 3 realized in the same way in other areas of the pair of goggles, particularly at the end of the ear pieces.
