Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT LIGHTWEIGHT SHOPPING TROLLEY The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: LIGHTWEIGHT SHOPPING TROLLEY This invention is for a lightweight shopping trolley as shown on the drawing with upright sides and ends that can be folded against the base frame for ease of storage.
The trolley consists of five rectangular rigid frames that form the base two sides front and rear (4) of the trolley. Each frame is in-filled with mesh or netting and braced if required. The base frame is supported on four self-aligning wheel assemblies and the front, rear and side frames are hinged about their bottom edge and mounted on the four sides of the base frame respectively. When the hinged frames are rotated until they are upright they are automatically locked in position. When the trolley is to be folded the locks are released and the frames folded in the sequence: frame frame frame and frame A trolley handle is incorporated into the rear frame. To further reduce the storage area required for the folded trolley the wheel assembly supports might be hinged and folded against the trolley base frame. A child seat may be slotted into brackets on the rear frame if required. The trolley frames may be manufactured from steel, alloy or plastic compounds.
Claims (4)
1. A lightweight shopping trolley as shown on the accompanying drawing, that can be folded and easily lifted by the average person, yet designed to support the standard supermarket trolley load.
2. A light weight shopping trolley as claimed in claim 1 comprising a rigid rectangular frame base supported on four self-aligning wheel assemblies, with each of four upright rectangular side and end frames hinged to the four members of the base frame respectively.
3. A lightweight shopping trolley according to claims 1 and 2 with side and end frames that automatically lock in the upright position, and are manually unlocked when the trolley is to be folded for storage.
4. A lightweight shopping trolley according to claims 1 to 3 made from alloy, steel or plastic compounds with the base, side and end frames in-filled with mesh or netting. A lightweight shopping trolley according to claims 1 to 4 with brackets to support a removable child seat, and wheel assembly supports that may be hinged so that the wheel assemblies can be folded against the base frame to further reduce the storage space required.
