PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT FOLDING SUSPENSION ARM The invention is described in the following statements FOLDING SUSPENSION ARM This invention relates to a method of folding a suspension unit, used in this instance in a boat trailer.
The object of the folding suspension arm is to enable the trailer width to be reduced, so the trailer can be stored in a small area.
For many people who travel with a vehicle mounted small boat, a trailer that may be folded and carried either in the rear of a vehicle or on the rear of a caravan or campertrailer, would be of great benefit.
This invention gives the user a full suspension system that will fold down from a width of 1.6 meters to 650 mm.
To assist with understanding the invention, the following pages will refer to the accompanying drawings.
2 Fig 1 This drawing gives an overall view of the complete suspension arm in the normal extended state.
The suspension arm itself comprises the following parts:- Upperarm Lower arm Coil spring Stub axle This is the side support arm. It is connected to the stub axle by two bolts and the other end is connected to the main frame by a Heim joint (6) This is the main frame pivot point for the suspension unit Main frame This is the two bolt connection of the side support arm to the stub axle this will be more clearly seen in Fig 2 Wheel assembly Fig 2 This shows the side support arm disconnected from the stub axle. This is done by disconnecting 2 bolts at so that support arm will lay alongside main frame.
Fig 3 This shows the stub axle and wheel assembly (10) rotated to lay parallel to suspension arm.
Fig 4 In this diagram the suspension arm is rotated to lay parallel to the main frame The suspension arm pivots at to achieve this.
Fig This diagram shows the suspension arm in the fully folded position.
