Description

AUSTRALIA
Patent Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT DISPOSABLE PAPER FLOOR MOP/SCRUBBER The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
DISPOSABLE PAPER MOP For many years mops consisting of various absorbent fibrous materials have been used to clean soiled floors. For obvious reasons of hygiene great care must be taken to clean these absorbent fibres after use. Various devices have been developed using special absorbent paper materials as disposable covers over sponge rubber or similar pads.
This invention has been specially devised in order to provide a cheap effective claw device that uses crumpled sheets of ordinary waste newspaper as an absorbent scrubbing medium. The device is designed so that the used newspaper is easily ejected for disposal.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustration of embodiments of the invention in which Figure 1. Is an overall illustration of the paper mop/scrubber device.
Figure 2. Is a section through the device with the radial claws in the 'open' position.
Figure 3. Is a section through the device with the radial jaws in the 'closed' position.
Figure 4. Is a top view of the paper mop/scrubber device.
A mop in accordance with this invention comprises a radial claw device 5 held within an annular locking collar 6 which incorporates a threaded socket to take a standard type mop handle. The said radial claw device 5 can have six, eight or ten claws depending on the size of the mop, and is retained within the said locking collar with a snap-on domed release knob 7 at the apex.
The diameter of the said locking collar 6 is such that when it is pushed downwards over the radial claw device 5 it forces the curved bottoms of the said radial claws inwards into the 'closed' position. When the domed release knob 7 at the apex of the radial claw device is pushed downwards it forces the said radial claw device 5 down through the locking collar 6 allowing the said radial claws to spring outwards into the 'open' position.
The radial claw device 5 to be molded in one piece the 'open' position in a pliable, impact resistant plastic material such as polypropylene or ethylene vinyl acetate. The annular locking collar 6 and the domed release knob 7 to be of a similar material.
The device as described here is designed to hold six sheets of tabloid sized newspaper crumpled to fist sized balls. 10 These six crumpled balls would be placed into the radial jaw device when it is inverted and in the open position. When all the crumpled paperl0 is in place it is pushed with theradial claw device 5 through the locking collar 6 until it is locked in the closed position. The crumpled paper 10 can be used with water, detergent or cleaning chemicals to scrub and mop up the dirt from soiled floors or walls.
When the crumpled paper is saturated it can be easily ejected into a waste bin by pushing down on the domed release knob l0
