Description

Description: TITLE: Wind Advertising By Wind Flags (referred to herein as
WABWF):
WABWF is a display device for displaying advertisements or the like by day and generating power to illuminate advertisements by night or for other purposes.
A person skilled in the art will be able to construct and perform the invention using only the description herein as a guide.
This description fully describes the invention including the best method of performing the invention which is known to the applicant BACKGROUND TO INVENTION It is known in the art for a merchant to use moving advertising signs, which have proven effective in attracting the attention of customers. US patent 5,704,145 and 6,018,899 to Michael G Hanitz describe a transparent detachable acrylic display panel, which is arranged to rotate through 360 degrees within an enclosed housing.
The above patent and 4 other advertising display patents are shown below to be substantially different from WABWF.
As described in more detail below, the WABWF is an advertising display invention to provide advertising on 2 or more flags that are attached to the outer vertical edge of a pair of frames at 90 degrees apart that rotate 360 degrees about a central vertical mast when the wind forces each flag in turn against a netting strung across the pair of frames. The netting allows the other flag or flags to fly freely while one flag at a time is entrapped against the net causing WABWF to rotate.
The difference between the following patented display devices and WABWF is described below:
WHEREAS:
The Hanitz display patent 5,704,145 is a rotatable design on a panel or panels that revolve within a fixed frame about their central vertical point.
Whereas WABWF advertises on rotating flags affixed to a pair of rotating frames with a netting to entrap each flag in turn so as to rotate the WABWF display device.
WHEREAS:
The Henningsson and Olsson display device patent WO 87/07144 is significantly different from WABWF. It is in the form of a stand and the horizontal section in the form of an equilateral polygon. The display surfaces are constituted by surfaces on cylinders with a non-circular section.
Whereas WABWF advertises on rotating flags affixed to a pair of rotating frames with a netting to entrap each flag in turn so as to rotate the WABWF display device.
WHEREAS:
The Malcolm Goddard GB 2319 387 A patent display system has a metal frame with a display panel being a flat rigid board.
Whereas WABWF advertises on rotating flags affixed to a pair of rotating frames with a netting to entrap each flag in turn so as to rotate the WABWF display device.
Description- (b)Background to invention continued:
WHEREAS
Display and advertising unit patent S 950685 has 14 vanes fitted to a frame in the form of a drum or cylinder Whereas WABWF advertises on rotating flags affixed to a pair of rotating frames with a netting to entrap each flag in turn so as to rotate the WABWF display device.
Whereas Patent W 0 00/41160 a decorative flag with moveable element as the single flag is fixed to a wall or similar and the moving single fla is centred within the fixed flagg.
Whereas WABWF advertises on rotating flags affixed to a pair of rotating frames with a netting to entrap each flag in turn so as to rotate the WABWF display device.
Description-continued Wind Advertising By Wind Flags (referred to herein as WABWF) is a display device for displaying advertisements or the like by day and generating power to illuminate advertisements by night or for other purposes.
An embodiment of the device is a pair of frame members (fig each frame members comprising of top and bottom horizontal frame members 7 and top and bottom discs 9, wherein openings 13 or the like are drilled in the centre of said horizontal frame members 7, and the centre of said discs 9.
L shaped corner brackets 10 are then screwed to the corners of the pair of frames to brace said pair of frames 6 and 7 wherein a central vertical mast 8 is passed through each of said openings 13 on each of said horizontal frame members and fastened in position such that the top and bottom horizontal frame members 7 of one frame member lie adjacent to the respective top and bottom horizontal frame member of the other frame member; each frame members when fastened are positioned substantially at 90 degrees apart; said pair of frame members having top and bottom discs 9 between overlying said top and bottom horizontal frame members 7; said central vertical mast is supported by at least one support bearing means on its bottom and top ends 11.
At least two flags made from plastic, cloth or the like wherein one edge of each of said flags is attached to each edges of said vertical frame members, at least one side of each of said flags having graphics, pictures or the like for advertisement or display purposes.
Description-continued: Holes 14 are drilled in each of the horizontal and vertical frame members through which string is threaded both horizontally and vertically to form a netting, which extends across the said pair of frames. Wherein rotation of said frame members about said central vertical mast is initiated by wind which forces at least one of said flags to be entrapped by said netting and while the remaining flags are allowed to fly freely in the direction of the wind without contact with said netting to start the rotational movement until each of said flags is forced against and subsequently entrapped by said netting in succession to progressively rotate said pair of frame members with the force of the wind.
Attaching said flags on the opposite side of the string netting will make WABWF rotate in the opposite direction.
As an option, the said pair of frame members may be varied in size and the size of each of the said wind flags would then be selected proportionately to cover the full area of the said netting across the differently sized pair of frames.
Multiple flags (Figures 10 11-Parts la, 2a, 3a, 4a.) may be used and may be necessary on a larger pair of frames as per Figure 10 and 11 showing one edge of multiple flags attached to vertical pole supports that are positioned between the vertical frame members that also have one edge of a flag attached thereto.
The display device is attachable to a building structure by using a supporting bracket 16 wherein electrical generation means 20 is attached to said device to generate electricity, or to provide illumination 21 for said device at night or other purposes, said generator is activated by a large pulley 17 being attached to said central vertical mast 8 and said large pulley is connected to a small pulley 19 by a pulley belt 18, said small pulley is connected to said generator.
The essential features and parts of the WABWF display device as figures 1 2 are as follows: I) FLAGS STRING NETTING 6) VERTICAL FRAME MEMBERS 7) HORIZONTAL FRAME MEMBERS 8) MAST 9) DISCS L SHAPED CORNER BRACKET 11) BEARINGS 12) PIPE BEARING HOUSING The optional embodiments of WABWF are: the multiple flag embodiment (Figure 10,11 12); (ii) brackets for attaching WABWF to a structure (Figure 13); and (iii) generator arrangement Figure 14.
The optional parts for these optional embodiments are as follows: la,2a,3a,4a.) MULTIPLE FLAGS ADDITIONAL VERTICAL POLE SUPPORTS FOR MULTIPLE FLAGS 16) BRACKETS 17) LARGE PULLEY 18) SMALL PULLEY 19) PULLEY BELT
