Abstract

The test apparatus (14) contains an amplitude generator (17), which generates 7-bit amplitude values for the transmission path input and the receiving path of the echo canceller (2). A quasi-random generator (16) supplies random sign bits to these values, and a delay component (15) simulates a transit delay. An amplitude value monitoring device (18) checks whether the amplitude value at the transmission path output has decayed to a residual value after a defined period from the time when the 7-bit amplitude values were applied. This test apparatus is used to test echo cancellers in international gateway exchanges. <IMAGE>
