Description

WO 01/20576 PCT/DEOO/03022 1 5 Navigation system, navigation method and navigation card for a means of locomotion Technical area 10 The invention relates to a navigation system for a means of locomotion, in particular for a vehicle, motor vehicle, ship or aircraft, for navigation from a location to a navigation target, with a radio receiver, in particular car radio, and a navigation device, a key card being planned, which can be inserted into a key card reader of the 15 radio receiver to initialise said radio receiver, whereby the radio receiver is connected to the navigation device for transmitting navigation targets to it, in accordance with the preamble of Claim 1. The invention also relates to a navigation process for a means of locomotion, in particular for a vehicle, motor vehicle, ship or aircraft for navigation from a current location to a destination, with a radio receiver, in particular 20 car radio, and a navigation device, at least the navigation target being input into the navigation device via the radio receiver, according to the preamble of Claim 4. The invention also relates to a navigation card for a navigation system for a means of locomotion, in particular for a vehicle, motor vehicle, ship or aircraft, for navigation from a current position to a navigation target, with a radio receiver, in particular car 25 radio, and a navigation device, according to the preamble of Claim 9. Prior Art In means of locomotion such as motor vehicles, aircraft or ships, fixed navigation 30 systems guide a driver of the means of locomotion quickly, simply and surely from a current location to a desired destination, without the driver of the means of locomotion previously having to go to the trouble of planning a route buying the appropriate maps. To this end corresponding navigation data, for example stored on WO 01/20576 PCT/DEOO/03022 2 CD-ROM is available, based on maps, county maps or street directories are in the navigation system. The navigation device can use GPS (Global Positioning System) to establish a current location and to compute corresponding navigation instructions, which lead to a predetermined goal. The navigation data preferably contain data on 5 streets and roads for vehicles. Before the navigation system can assume its task and compute a route from the current position to the destination, it is necessary that a user input the desired destination and, if applicable the current location. This takes place, for example, by 10 means of a keyboard or a similar input device operated manually. Representation of the invention, object, solution, advantages 15 It is the object of the present invention to develop a navigation system of the type mentioned above so that, more application possibilities exist with simpler operation for a user. This object is solved with a navigation system of the type mentioned above, with the 20 characteristics named in Claim 1, by a navigation method with the characteristics named in Claim 4 and by a navigation card with the characteristics named in Claim 9. It is also planned according to the invention, that at least one navigation card corresponding to the key card is provided, which in one storage unit has a navigation 25 target of particular interest, for example tourist attractions, for optional transfer to the navigation device as navigation target. This has the advantage that the navigation system additionally serves, for example, as a tourist guide so that guides of this type are available simply, inexpensively and at all 30 times, simply by means of the insertion of a navigation card in a key car reader of the radio receiver. Further developments of the method are described in Claims 5 to 8.
WO 01/20576 PCT/DE0O/03022 3 For descriptions and for the information of the user on activated points of interest, the navigation card further contains audio data on the stored interesting points, which can be played via the radio receiver, when the navigation device establishes that the 5 current location of the means of locomotion corresponds to a navigation target belonging to this audio file in the form of a point of interest. Various navigation maps are provided for various cities. 10 In a navigation of the above type it is planned according to the invention that a key card for this corresponding navigation card is inserted in the radio receiver, from it a location of a point of particular interest is read out as the navigation target and is transferred to the navigation device for carrying out navigation. 15 Further developments of the method are described in Claims 5 to 8. By way of description and for the information of the user via actuated points of interest, after reaching the navigation target, an audio file relating to this point of interest is read out by the navigation card and played. 20 To put together an individual tour, navigation targets stored on an inserted navigation card can be optionally displayed from points of special interest for the user. For carrying out entire tour trips, several navigation targets of points of interest are 25 read out in succession automatically by the navigation card and transferred to the navigation device to carry out a navigation guide, whereby a successive navigation goal is read out and transferred when a previous navigation target is reached. In order to be alerted to or informed of other points of interest on the navigation route 30 such as tourist attractions or places with a historical background, during the navigation guide to a navigation target audio data is read out by the navigation card and played.
WO 01/20576 PCT/DEOO/03022 4 In the navigation card of the type described above, it is planned according to the invention that it be designed as a key card for the radio receiver and points of interest are stored on the navigation card for the navigation device connected to the radio receiver. 5 This has the advantage that points of interest can be made available as navigation targets in a standardised way, which can be used by every navigation system with a radio receiver and a key card reader without additional hardware requirements. 10 In an advantageous further development, audio files describing the points of interest or other audio files, which contain sound experiences are stored on the navigation card. By this means when this audio file is played after reaching a point of interest, a user is additionally informed acoustically about this point of interest, for example a tourist attraction, or a specific sound experience is given this person on the point of 15 interest to him. Short description of the drawings 20 In the following the invention will be further described on the basis of the attached drawing. This shows in the only figure a schematic block diagram of a preferred embodiment of a navigation system of the invention. Z5 The best way to embody the invention The preferred embodiment of the navigation system 100 of the invention represented in Figure 1 comprises a navigation device 10 with a navigation processor 12, and a radio receiver 14. In the case of the installation of the navigation device in a vehicle, '0 the radio receiver is, for example, a car radio. An antenna 16 is connected to both the radio receiver 14 and an internal GPS device (GPS = Ground Positioning System), not depicted, of the navigation device 10. For outputting the navigation instructions the navigation device 10 is connected to the acoustic output device 18. The radio receiver WO 01/20576 PCT/DE0O/03022 5 14 is also connected with the acoustic output device 18 for the reproduction of audio transmissions. A user inputs commands or navigation targets and, if applicable, a current location into the navigation device 10 via the navigation processor, which processes manual inputs of this type, by means of a keyboard. In a CD changer 22 5 various CDs 24 are arranged, which contain, among other things, a navigation CD with a digital card base. A key card, not depicted, can be inserted into the radio receiver 14 to initialise the radio receiver 14. This key card serves originally as an antitheft measure, as the radio 10 receiver is worthless without the key card as it cannot be used. The key card contains a storage unit with corresponding authorisation information. According to the invention, this key card is provided in a form and memory construction corresponding navigation cards 26, which can be read out by the key 15 card reader of the radio receiver 14 and which contain, in the memory, additional information with respect to points of interest, museums, old towns or other tourist attractions as navigation targets, as block 28 shows. Various navigation cards 26 contain, for example navigation targets of similar tourist attractions in various cities. The navigation processor 12 can access data stored on the navigation card 26, as is 20 shown by means of arrows, whereby the navigation card 26 is still inserted in the key card reader (not depicted) in the radio receiver 14 provided for the key card. Following the insertion of the navigation card 26, the navigation targets of tourist attractions or other points of interest stored on them are shown on a display 32, so that 25 a user can select one or more navigation targets, which are then transferred to the navigation device or the navigation processor 12 successively in the manner of a guided tour, whereupon a corresponding navigation guide to the corresponding tourist attractions takes place. 30 The navigation card 26 is inserted, for example only for the input of the desired navigation target and a corresponding computing of a route. In order, after this, to use the radio receiver 14, the key card belonging to it is again inserted.
WO 01/20576 PCT/DEOO/03022 6 In addition, information on the tourist attractions is stored in spoken form, for example in an audio file, on the navigation card 26. This is called up and played as soon as the means of locomotion reaches a tourist attraction previously input as navigation target. To this end the navigation card 26 remains also after input of the 5 navigation target and corresponding route calculation, inserted in the radio receiver 14. For example, a memory of a navigation card according to the invention has the following contents: 10 Museum includes spoken description; Old town includes spoken description; Wooded area includes spoken description; Zoo includes spoken description; 15 Opera house includes specific sound experience such as a piece of classical music; Railway station includes spoken timetable information whereby, for example, the departing train connections are output at a pre-given time intervals after arrival; 20 Freeway car park includes spoken output about services such as service stations, restaurant, etc. at the freeway car park; etc. 25 With a selection "guided tour" a route is suggested, for example inside the old town. Under these above-mentioned key words are several navigation targets. This data is called up by the navigation card 26 and with a corresponding tour, car parks near the respective navigation targets are driven towards and corresponding audio files, which describe the respective tourist attractions, are played. In addition, audio instructions 30 take place during the navigation, whereby for safety reasons a warning alert is shown preferably previously, a user being able to turn off this audio information during the trip.
WO 01/20576 PCT/DEOO/03022 7 Thus the invention discloses a field of functions for navigation systems 100, which comprise a navigation device 10, 12 with a radio receiver 14 or car radio. The invention is used, for example in the case of bus tours. Moreover, regional tourist bureaus can make available and offer corresponding navigation cards 26. In this 5 regard it is advantageous to provide navigation cards 26, however with audio files in various languages. Here a standard exists through the use of the key card reader from the radio receivers 14, so that no additional hardware in the navigation system 100 or the radio receiver 14 is necessary. 10 15 20 25 30
