Abstract

In a papermaking machine, the wire section (10-12) is followed immediately by a first longitudinal-gap press (20) in which a flat press gap is formed between a press roller (22) and a flexible press tube (23). The press gap can be pressed against the press roller (22) by a press shoe (24). The press roller (22) is located below the flexible press tube (23) so that the action of the press shoe (24) is directed vertically downwards. The fibrous material web (9) from which the water is to be extracted runs, together with an upper felt (13) and a lower felt (15), on a linear running section at a slight upward inclination to the wire section in the direction of the press gap of the first longitudinal-gap press (20). Behind this first longitudinal-gap press (20) is a second longitudinal-gap press (30), in which the press roller (32) is arranged above the flexible press tube (33) so that the action of the press shoe (34) is directed vertically upwards.
