Abstract

The container has four longitudinal and transverse side walls which extend from a rectangular bottom to a widened rectangular opening. The container provides the possibility, on the one hand, of nested stacking in a space-saving manner in the empty state, but also, on the other hand, permits a secure and stable stack formation from several filled units. There are therefore provided two strips 17 which are hinged on in the manner of a flap in the region of the upper edges 6a of the transverse side walls 6, which strips can be folded from a swivel position, which exposes the rectangular opening up to the transverse side walls 6, to a swivel position which partially bridges said first swivel position adjoining the transverse side walls 6, and in which the distance between the mutually facing edges of the strips 17 is of smaller dimensions than the width of the container bottom between the transverse side walls 6. At their ends, the strips 17 bear bearing cheeks 16 which extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of said strips and are held swivellably in bearing blocks, arranged away from the corners of the container, at the upper edges of the longitudinal side walls. The strips 17 are received and supported in their exposing swivel position in a channel-type edge portion, which is open at the top, at the upper edges of the transverse side walls 6, whereas they are received and supported in their bridging swivel position with their ends and the bearing cheeks 16 in troughs 12, which are open at the top and towards the interior of the container, of edge portions of the longitudinal side walls. <IMAGE>
